I'm 60 and learned how to bunny hop when I was a kid , I used to practice hopping in a circle like you do , I still do it and it is something that definitely makes riding easier and more fun , really helps me on tight switch backs

Nice- I'll be 57 in 12 days... Bunny hopping was a lot easier 35-40 years ago!

It makes such a big difference with tight spots - I use this technique almost as much as I pedal on some rides!

Great stuff! One additional suggestion I have for those of us just beginning to learn this is to wear some sort of shin protection before you run out of SteriStrips.

Great call! I started riding with shin guards (and still do sometimes) for exactly this reason.

Even after years of trials & MTB riding, I love these videos. The granulation of a skill lets me reflect on what I’m doing and I always find refinement ideas. Currently I’m struggling to transfer the skills to my eMTB. The heavier bike really accentuates any errors and deadens the bounce/jump I can get on my acoustic MTB. Great fun to practice when it’s too nasty to go outside.🎉🎉

I couldn’t agree more. I feel like its helped my riding to go back and break down each of these skills in order to teach them, too. I can totally see that with the ebike, but I suspect you’ll have it dialed in no time!

Aaron, I love these types of videos that you do. I am nearly 74 years old and took up mountain biking 6 years ago when trail running began to hurt too much. The mountain biking has been wonderful change and living in Colorado gives me many places to ride in the dirt and rocks. Have you ever considered finding a person (preferably older from my perspective) to use to showcase how they might be able to learn the skills that you obviously have mastered. My track stands are good but are no where as stable as yours, my rear wheel lifts leave the ground but controlling where they will land is questionable. I would volunteer to be a "crash dummy" for you if we lived 1000 miles closer. Not even sure if you are interested but never the less I immensely enjoy your videos often playing them at 25% speed to try and gather all that is going on. Larry Benko

Hi Larry - thanks so much for watching! I was a trail runner for quite a while, too - in fact, my friend Dylan is racing Hardrock *right now*! I would love to be able to include someone in these videos, I think that would be a great way to explain and address additional elements of each skill. If you're ever in Oregon, let me know and we can test out that format! :)

This is pretty much the easiest way to hop that I first learned from the Joy of Bike channel. Not the bunny or whatever, it's just a simple hop. And these progressive bike skills series should be introduced to every beginner mountain biker.

Years ago the next practise helped me to understand how to lift back wheel. I kinda pushed myselft between handlebars and pedals. Really advise trying this to anyone having problems here.

I've looked, and there are so few videos on this... I always thought moving forward required a pedal 'punch' but you just showed that it's not necessary by going up the ramp with both wheels locked.. wow! maybe a 'punch' is more advanced I'm not sure. but thank you for this!

This is actually most under-rated technique. Tough, I wish could live without this skill because it's pretty tiring when using it to keep balance.
@SuperRiderTV
@SuperRiderTV Жыл бұрын
It gets easier the more you get efficient with your movement, but you're right that it can wear you out. I usually alternate between this and rocking (from the previous video).

Have always been good at hopping on two wheels, but the "correction" thing has never worked for me. Think it is maybe because I've never once tried with the brakes locked out.

@sapinva

@@SuperRiderTV Yeah lol, had a bit of a skills session with that already about an hour ago. Every other hop results in letting off the brake and turning the wheel to keep from falling over. As long as there is momentum going in any direction it is no problem. I know it is something I need to learn, but it may take a while.

Does bike weight make a big difference? I really don't want to spend the money for a carbon fiber.
@SuperRiderTV
@SuperRiderTV Жыл бұрын
No, not at all. This bike is actually aluminum, not carbon fiber...but regardless of bike weight, it should be lighter than your body, so it'll come along for the ride when you're moving.

Hi there great Chanel, what's the best MTB for light "Trial" style riding in a bit of mix in town and trails, anything to look out for on the technical side of the bike? Thanks
@SuperRiderTV
@SuperRiderTV Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Hardtail MTBs like the Chameleon, Nuke Proof Scout or Yeti ARC are the closest geometry I’ve seen so far. Marin makes a hardtail that looks like it could work, too! The one thing I would look for on geometry is a shorter chainstay, essentially a compact rear triangle of the bike will give you the best control. Hope this helps!

Are you holding on to your brakes the whole time while hopping?
@SuperRiderTV

Yes, mostly. Sometimes I'll let off the brakes in mid-air to readjust my position, but usually I've got them locked up for hops like this.
