They just wanted to see if the glitch worked. They didn't cheat. They could have left and ended the game if they wanted as no one was guarding the open exit (both times) and the other survivors had already escaped. Although it was cheeky and a bit of a troll, the family had already lost. Also Toonz apologized.

You can hold X for the bone scrap & tool box it's faster than tapping & less noise. Tap X for escaping, opening barricades & lock picking is faster than holding. Also you can run while crouched
