I just now stumbled across your video. It was excellent. I'm a truck driver. 20+ years ago, K-mart built a new distribution center in Greensboro, NC. It served the eastern half of NC, all of VA, MD, and a couple stores in WV. I delivered products from the Kmart DC to the Kill Devil Hills store quite a few times back in the day. It was a really nice store. If I'm not mistaken, it was one of last two Kmart stores in NC to close. The other was in Clemmons. It's sad what happened to Kmart. Living in central NC, I love the Outer Banks. Beautiful area. Thank you so much for sharing this video. Brought back quite a few memories. Godspeed.

Seeing this brought a tear to my eye. My mom lived in obx & I never got to see her very much. But the few times I got to go down & visit I remember mom taking my little sister & I there to get some toys & things. So many fights with some light sabers or some random toys in the back. Really wish I would’ve known it was closing when I came down 2 years ago. Would’ve walked through it one last time. Thanks for this man.

As a local of the obx myself, I've always remembered the Kmart store being real popular since I was a little kid. I used to go there all the time when they had all kinds of things like video games, toys, clothing, etc. They would always decorate a lot for Halloween and Christmas and that's what everyone here used to love about this store. It was one of the nearest department stores on the obx that everyone shopped at. But after a while, I noticed it really began to go downhill as they stopped selling certain stuff such as video games and electronics and then their garden center shut down. Everything they had was old and outdated and they didn't even have everything you wanted. That's when I knew they were probably going to shut down soon. Now the old building is actually going to become a Target. I'm not joking either.

I worked at a Kmart in the late 90s when I was going to college. They used to have actual Kmart cafeterias inside them before they started leasing out spaces to Little Caesars, etc which I thought sucked. Whenever we visited a Kmart when I was a kid, we would always stop by the cafeteria to get a Coke. I'm going to miss you, Kmart.

Don’t know what America has in store for us but many have these emotional stories about our favorite stores that are shutting down today. I cried real tears for my favorite Pier 1 store and there are many more closures where I live here on the East coast. You do have great memories of these establishments. Really heartbreaking stuff. I actually did work for our Kmart part time in the 90’s. It closed and was turned into AT HOME. My grandma loved that story and you’re right... it’s like all your childhood memories flash by especially when those we love are no longer with us. Sorry friend.😢

The front actually had a Nathan’s hot dog stand, if memory serves me right that’s what they had. I lived here from 2012-2015. I remember in the spring my mom would take me to this store every Friday after school and we would look around and get a treat from there. I miss living down here and going to this store.

I've been here several times on vacation. I'm 6 hours from there. I bought several Sony headphones and walkman's from there. If it closed down I wonder what they do now for a major retail store because they don't have a Walmart anywhere nearby. Last time I was there was with my grandpa and my family in 2009 before Grandpa passed away he loved the outer Banks Glad he got to see it one last time.

😯 WTF! My first time in the Outer Banks of NC was May 1994. Stayed with my fiance's foster family and friends in a big house ocean front at mile post 17. Was there shopping every year I went to Nags Head. Shopped there as well On my honeymoon in May 1995 I bought a new boom box there. Then we brought my Mom and Dad down as well as my first born still in my wife's womb. Then had a big gap until 2003. Took the 3 kids we had down. Then a huge 14 year gap till 2017 and 2019. I was divorced on the last two trips. So it was just me and my 4 kids. In 2917 I bought the DVD of Edward Scissor Hands there for like 5 bucks. My last time was May 2019. Went there and I bought a back up battery for charging up my cell phone if needed in an emergency. I dont remember if I bought anything else. Where you ever at th he obx prior to 1994? I've spent 6 full weeks there of my life and wish I could afford to have done it more. I had a funny feeling that K Mart would be closing soon and you've verified it for me now.

Sears just didn't give a damn about their Kmart stores. One that closed near me was a horror show. Aisles were always crowded and dirty. The shoe area often had shoes piled where customers had tried them on and dropped them in frustration. DVDs and video games were under lock and key. I can understand the video games, but the DVDs? Cosmetics were often torn out of packages, sampled, and dirty with finger tracks in powder or eyeshadow. I once found a package of used cosmetic sponges. They'd ripped it open to try out the foundation! There was a poor selection of clothes, books, and other items. The floor looked as if they never mopped. It was like that for years until they closed. It's now a discount store that's doing great business.

If this store was profitable then their reason for closing locations isn't to eliminate non producing stores. It's just gradually closing the whole chain. Overall this is a nice store. I don't see where Target or Walmart are much different in appearance. I guess people just get tired of some stores along with bad corporate management.

If you were born in the sixties or seventies, Kmart meant a lot to you just like Walmart does today to a lot of people. I never really cared for Walmart. But it's practically the only big department store left. Kmarts was about budget and practicality. It feels like our history is going out of business, just like Kmart and Malls. Great video as usual.

I can understand, I use to go to the one in North Myrtle Beach SC as a kid with my pop. It was at Briarcliffe mall which was turned into a Bass Pro Shop. My pop would always make sure he would go to that Kmart every time. I see a lot of that with this particular Kmart. The memories, the employees, everything. I got to go one last time but they weren't doing the mass closing then, it looked sad & run down. The next year, it was gone.

For a K Mart store it was pretty good, but that's not saying much. The Walmart Store, seven miles north of it, at Mile Post 1, was and continues to out perform it. This K Mart like all other stores, lost site of its goal of providing products people actually wanted and needed. It would have been nice if K Mart was truly a competitive alternative to Walmart, but alas, that is not to be, R.I.P.
