What an era for great films - and what a cast! Only seen this 70's-noir once (on late-night TV) and wanted to watch it again. Notice the similarities between this and the arguably even better Charlie Varrick? Mob money, bank heists, Joe Don Baker in fine form, casual ultraviolence, non-progressive cultural norms...juicy! Anything with an actor's actor like Robert Duvall is worth watching anyway. Were the 70s the greatest for producing fine cult/mainstream crime flicks? Quite possibly. Tasty review, Tony.

Great review of a movie I haven't seen in a while. Remember really liking it. Jdbaker, Robert duvall Robert ryan AND the gorgeous Joanne Cassidy. I know Flynn also made the woefully underrated 87 thriller BEST SELLER. Which maybe dosent match his earlier work in ferocity but at least tries. Gonna have see if can get a copy of the outfit Great review T

A great film and a very good review. In a way, its obscurity probably saves it (us?) from a remake starring Nicholas Cage.

Thanks, John, good to hear from you. I'm hoping the relative obscurity of this channel will continue to save it (us?) from that fate. Regards. T.

I've heard conflicting thoughts about this one, some people say it's an underrated masterpiece and I've heard others say it's a bit dull but personally (and I haven't even seen the film yet) something is telling me that this is worth watching, as you know I'm a sucker for deeply underrated unloved films *cough figures in a landscape*

It's a feelgood film about bad people doing bad things, Streed. Worth your time I would estimate. Many thanks. T.
@PaIaeoCIive16848 ай бұрын
Hi Streed. Great cast, cool thrills, memorable lines - it's a decent film IMO. You mentioned you can sit through long 70s films with similar themes - Godfather films? - so you might like it. There are a few clips on YT to give you a feel of it, but not the whole film, sadly (I've looked before!) So many great films out there ya bloody w⚓! (using Aussie slang of our last chat there) See you around.

City of Industry. Do City of Industry. It's a great -- really great -- film squarely in this genre, and the film industry has made nothing like it since. And don't even mention that Jason Statham piece of crap about the armored truck guys...
@tonybush5558 ай бұрын
Haven't seen the admittedly great City Of Industry for years, but anything with Harvey Keitel in it, Saturn 3 notwithstanding, warrants renewed attention. I'll see if I can track down a copy. As for the Statham film, I sort of had to mention it in the context of the review for no other reason than it's the only one to use the character's name. Obviously it went down really well to which the plethora of Parker franchise movies which followed it can suitably attest. Oh, wait a minute...
@tectorgorch86988 ай бұрын
Thanks, Tony, I've got a DVD of COI and it's one of my proudest possessions. I do not have a DVD player, but So-TF-What?!? I love the scene where Harvey demolishes the TV tray in the flophouse and the wonderful finale where Famke J. receives the necklace in the mail.... CHEERIO!@@tonybush555

What was it with main character names having to be changed from novel to screen? This happened with Ross MacDonald's Lew Archer ('Harper') as well. Sorry, since I haven't seen 'The Outfit', that's all I can bring to the table.......except ❤ Joanna Cassidy.
@calreid32088 ай бұрын
Harper happened because the rights to the character weren't purchased, just the novel The Moving Target. Also, Newman liked films beginning with H for good luck due to prior success with The Hustler and Hud.
