I haven't had the pleasure of seeing this since it's original air date. This series should be restored and released on dvd. It would be a great addition to every McGavin fan's collection. Sincere thanks go to you for posting this.

McGavin was born to play a private eye. For modern actors I could only see Chris Meloni playing this type of role. God he'd be fantastic.

These Universal shows were all top-shelf in terms of actors, sets, locations, production values, and that trademark swellegant music.

My mom worked at Universal Studios from about 1963-72. On one occasion when I was with my mom, with my brothers, I was rolling around in Raymund Burr's wheelchair prop for his Ironside TV series. Darren McGavin just happened to be passing through, and saw us. He looked at me and said, "hello young man", shook my hand, and then proceeded on to where he was going to. He made me feel special, didn't know who he was at the time. I really liked Darren McGavin in the Night Stalker TV series that was on for just the 1974-75 TV season. My older brother told of the time when he was with my mom on the TV set of the Munsters. He operated the statue at the bottom of the staircase that made it rise where Spot, the Munster's pet dwelt. He then said that one of the prop men demonstrated how they shoot all of the spider webs for the Munster's house, using some sort of a conical device where they sprayed out from! I wish I had seen that!

He refused to name names during the McCarthy hearings. Poor guy died of an apparent heart attack just a few years later (1970), at only 51 years old. This saddens me. I would’ve enjoyed seeing him in “elder” roles.

I love McGavin! I need to get the entire series of Mike Hammer with him. This was 1968?? I thought most things were in color by then? I wasn't born til 81 so I don't actually know, but it looks like it's after Mike Hammer. I'm glad it's black and white regardless. I am 37 and I rarely watch television or movies in color anymore. I only want the old stuff. Haven't got to watch this yet, but I can't wait to see it. Wasn't this a series too? Thanks for sharing!

It was filmed in color by Universal TV and broadcast by NBC in color in 1968. This is (simply) a b&w print. So, "no, the color hasn't faded -- THAT MUCH." FYI, money ALWAYS being a consideration, color film is more expensive than monochrome, i.e., b&w. 35 mm B&W prints were used by the film editors to assemble the program from which the cutters of the color negative used the precise instructions -- to the frame (24 frames per second) -- to create the complete answer / 'air' print and 'back-up' 16 mm prints.. Duplicate b&w prints, usually in 16 mm [cheaper to mail / transport than the heavy 35 mm reels], were made by the dozens and sent gratis to U.S. military bases and installations, including ships, to entertain the servicemen and women -- WHEREVER they may be. This being the era of the Vietnam War, seeing familiar American entertainment programming provided a 'sense of home' feeling. This print is missing the main title; possibly to abide by U.S. copyright restrictions of the musical theme or the episode complete. Thank you, FredFlix.

One of the best shows in 1968, Fred! Thanks so much for the upload and do you have any more episodes of The Outsider?
@FredFlix5 жыл бұрын
I might have a couple but generally I no longer upload complete old shows. However, I might do it when I run out of ideas for more creative videos.

Well, thank you so much for this episode, Fred. Darren McGavin was one of my favorite actors and always turned in exemplary performances whenever he was featured! Since you seem to uncover some amazing introductions to shows, I was wondering if you have complete main titles of all the NBC Sunday Mystery Movie and Wednesday Mystery Movies? The first Wednesday Mystery Movie theme was composed by Quincy Jones and featured Madigan, Cool Million, and Banacek.

This is wild! This was the 1960's right? McGavin's character actually flirting w/ a woman of color [24:20]. How'd they get this passed the almighty Censors? This is so fantastic. A hidden gem.

@Marie Smith Agreed.. things are far from ducky in the 21st century...in 1960's laws against inter-racial marriage..case in point:Loving v. Virginia on June 12, 1967. So yeah this is a "WOW moment in entertainment.
