Fellow lunar rock long bed owner checking in! Appreciate you taking the time to make a review for us niche interest folks. I solo a lot with my gsd and ground tent still bc the bed isn't large enough and she's big on licking my face to make sure I'm still alive i use a cot which is comfy but cumbersome.Cabovers and rtts atrack too much attention in my area. When i saw the bivy, i immediately saw it filling my needs. I don't think many folks have then yet so thanks again for making the vids!

I will make more videos for sure, and I think you said it perfectly. The bivy is unique but can actually serve a lot of people. I could talk about this forever haha, but thank you for watching. I’m going to make a video to show more detail on the dog bed and how that works

Fantastic video! This is an absolutely awesome design. I didn’t know how well thought out it was just seeing it from the outside. Love those barn doors in the back really cool set up in those little additions are pretty awesome. You got to have the pups to make it an adventure. Lol

Great review man. I am going to put my order in for one. Do you notice mpg loss from wind drag on the highway? Or extra wind noise? Thanks!
@cartermoses4136Ай бұрын
I honestly have not noticed any change what so ever. I average 17-18 even with bigger off road tires. It only weighs 211lbs and its just like putting on a regular topper. You will not notice the difference. I do have louder tires on road so there might be a very slight wind noise, but i forget its even on my truck a lot

Thank you for posting this! I actually emailed them about panels to fill the gap for my pups and they sent a picture of your panels over as a DIY suggestion! Great to see it in action. Any issues with dust intrusion? Did you get the positive pressure vent?
@cartermoses41363 ай бұрын
Oh awesome!!! Thank you for watching. I can send more photos if you need or make a video just based on the dog bed and more detail on how it fits if you want? Aldo as for dust, first we do not have the possitive pressure vent and I have not notided dust intrusion. This camper for us has been weather proof. I am excited to see how this will work in the winter, but no dust for us!!

You get the maxair fan?
@cartermoses4136Ай бұрын
No I actually didn’t, I would recommend it for sure and to insulate it with the liner if you go this route. Mine is pretty bare bones

Does the truck leak water where the topper lays on top of the truck bed? Most trucks you only clamp the sides of the topper, the back wall of the bed is not as wide.
@cartermoses41362 ай бұрын
I have had absolutely no issues with leaking water through and I have been camping in the rain a fair amount. They gasket and seal the sides and nothing comes through for me

I have a Alu-cab on my Tacoma. I used to have a standard fiberglass topper with a little set up inside. This to me seems like a happy medium. I dont like the bulkiness of the alu-cab so much, but being on my knees in the topper wasn’t pleasant either.
@cartermoses4136Ай бұрын
Haha yeah we used to sleep in the back with a soft top topper and that worked for a while but eventually got a little annoyiung the more we went out. I love the Alu-cabs but I love how light weight this bivy camper is, but also their full size one is really light as well.
@D_F_L_2 ай бұрын
How tall is the bivy when popped up? How tall are you? I wish there were more competition with the Bivy. I don’t want a cab over but unsure if I want to get a longbed. A bivy with a shortbed would probably be a moot point unless just to shelter when it rains.
@cartermoses41362 ай бұрын
Yeah the 5ft bed is tricky with the bivy, I know there’s a few people that have it and sleep diagonally or have made their own sleeping platform and not use the platform that Ovrlnd provides. I will go do the measurements for you and get back to you on the exact height. For reference I’m 5’8 and have 4 or more inches above me when it’s popped up
@D_F_L_2 ай бұрын
@@cartermoses4136 oh nice so it gives you about 6 ft of standing room. I am curious about sleeping diagonally but probably won’t be getting it on a short bed.
@cartermoses41362 ай бұрын
@@D_F_L_ I would honestly reach out to them and see what they say. I am 5'8 and know that it would be doable to sleep diagonally in the 5ft bed but not with 2 people

Hello and congratulations on your camper, it seems like a great camper. I feel the same way you do about my camper that I have had for about 5 months now. It is a Topo Topper Mesa wedge camper on a 6ft Tacoma bed just like you have. It is strong, light weight and I believe a great value for your money. It is made of 1/8th aluminum. Do you happen to know how thick is the aluminum on your camper? Thanks and have a great time camping.
@cartermoses41362 ай бұрын
The aluminum tubing on the Bivy frame is all 0.0625” thick (1/16th). The cabover campers have some thicker studs that are 0.125” thick and if you want a camper for an awning, they actually use the 0.125” studs where the awning mounts!!

How does it do with wind? Does it flap ? I’m thinking of going with ORU because of their hard walls for wind resistance. But ovrlnd seems better built
@cartermoses4136Ай бұрын
That’s a really good question, I haven’t noticed anything whatsoever to this point. I camped at an overlook spot last night and it was really windy but didn’t notice any flapping. This side walls in here are actually really tight. I can make a video for you showing it popped up if you want. I was honestly worried about the same thing but since I’ve had it, I haven’t noticed anything

@@cartermoses4136 I like this setup and like 4 season camping. I'm thinking it might be possible to cut some pink foam insulation to match the sizes of the inside of the upper walls to both insulate it better and to make the walls rigid when set up. it looks like that might be posslble. In essence to turn a soft walled camper to a hard-sided camper. For the superior insulation primarily. Just cut the insulation and carry it loose in the box and bolt it in when it's set up.
@cartermoses41364 күн бұрын
@@ravenfeather7087 Yeah you absolutely could do that. I am about to insulate ours but not the soft side section

The locks will sieze when exposed to salted roads. 😢

Do you think this will still happen with their new covers they just came out with?
@chainsawcharl1e67715 күн бұрын
@cartermoses4136 Yes. OVRLND is a great product, but southerners have NO IDEA how bad salt is up north. For example, my 1982 Toyota pickup went from rust-free to scrap in 4 winters.

@@chainsawcharl1e677 I grew up in Iowa and had to have my 2006 tacoma get a complete frame replacement due to rust from the salt on the roads. I am really curious to see if this is going to be an issue for everyone or not. I live in AZ and will most likely not have to worry about this potential issue, but you could be on to something. Do you know if other camper companies have this issue?
@chainsawcharl1e67713 күн бұрын
@cartermoses4136 The liftgate lock on my old topper came with a rubber cover to keep water and salt out. Once the cover rotted away, the lock siezed, so the problem is universal: only stainless locks will last.

Seems foolish to have no area over the cab to increase the upper section/sleeping area.
