I think Eda was just deflecting about not knowing what a hug is due to being alone for so long. Plus the muddled relationship with her family & love life. On top of that? She essentially was dubbed "The Strongest & Most Powerful Witch on the Boiling Isles". Those kinds of titles hold weight to them. So she probably felt she couldn't be vulnerable & held up a front. So when Luz waltzes into her life & pulls her life together mysteriously? At first she's apprehensive but then, little by little she starts to open up & build a family with them. Eda even starts developing healthy habits & support systems
