You should do a deep dive on the final week of this season. The Packers beat the Phoenix Cardinals in what seemed like a meaningless game, but if you really take a close look at it, it might have been the most meaningful meaningless game in NFL history. The domino effect of the Packers winding up with the top pick and drafting Aikman, therefore taking him away from Dallas and the Cowboys either picking Tony Mandrich or Barry Sanders. What would that have meant to the Cowboys dynasty of early 90s? Probably never happens. And what happens to Brett Favre if the Packers have Aikman and therefore don’t need to trade for him. The entire history of the NFL is different because the Packers didn’t tank in that final week.

And if the Pack takes Sanders, Tom Bratz isn't fired & Ron Wolf doesn't come to GB. The mind boggling part of the Mandarich pick was Bratz latter admitted to knowing he was a steroids case but thought the fans would cancel their season tickets if they did'nt draft him. In hindsight, it all worked out beautifully & the Pack was definitely back (4 years later).

I'm old enough to remember the '69 Packers, whose kicking game that season was, if anything, even worse. They also used four different kickers that year, and if memory serves, together they hit less than 30% of their FG tries. And the team still finished 8-6 that year.
@Jason_MaierАй бұрын
1. Hard to believe that the Packers would later have stability with the kicker role: Chris Jacke (89-96); Ryan Longwell (97-05) and Mason Crosby (07-22). 2. The Redskins in 86 had Four guys kicking: Mark Moseley (released after week 9), Max Zendejas (released after week 15) and Jess Atkinson (week 16 and the postseason). Punter Steve Cox even did some long field goals. 3. Max also had a game against the Vikings in 1986 where he missed 3 xp kicks and a field goal. The Redskins won in overtime.

Oh man, these Packers were literally my childhood. My Dad and I had ALL the jokes. "Why were there no tornadoes this year in Wisconsin? Because the Packers can't score a touchdown!" Woodside and Fullwood, name me a worse "running back" duo. I'll wait. Phillip "backwards" Epps, the infamous kick returner who would run from sideline to sideline to sideline to sideline, traveling 200 yards laterally but ending up behind the point he fielded the kick. I'd totally forgotten that we (somehow) had a worse kicker than Max "wide and to the left" Zendejas. And the NFC Central! Oh man. The 5-team Division that the Packers (inexplicably) shared with *THE TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS* . Nothing says "central USA" like FLORIDA, amirite? Ahh, I'm feeling all nostalgic now, despite how terrible the on-the-field product was back in those days. Takes me back to being seven again and watching those 80's Packer games with my dad, mocking the Packers the entire time because you had to laugh at them to keep from crying. ;)

Can’t go wrong with the linebacker from Alabama. Though have you seen that corner from Florida State. He can cover, return kicks, *AND* play receiver. Only downside is his tackling ability I’m hearing things about this safety from Arkansas. He hits like a linebacker and great cover skills If Green Bay was to go o-line, there is a center from Pitt worth looking at. He’s projected 3rd rounder but they need serious help on that side of the ball

@thegoose858Ай бұрын
There seems to be some collective amnesia among Packer fans over the Mandarich pick, but before the '89 draft the general consensus was that he and Aikman were head and shoulders above the rest of the draft class- including Derrick Thomas and the two Sanders's. Lindy's Pro Football Guide later described GB getting Mandarich after DAL drafted Aikman ahead of them as "the all-time consolation prize." Apparently no one seriously suspected he was juiced up.
