You're not nostalgia blind. Mario Hoops 3 on 3 unironically goes hard. I think it suffers the same issue Kid Icarus Uprising had where the controls was a big barrier of entry to enjoying the game. I think a lot of people missed the depth 3-on-3 had too. Sports mix really did us dirty you hate to see it.

In my opinion, the first 2 Mario strikers are the most charming Mario games ever made. Every single thing about those games from the character animations to the items, the music, and even the menus are just oozing with personality. It makes it feel like some kind of intense, futuristic, hardcore sport that only the mushroom kingdom is crazy enough to handle lol.

This video was a fine way to talk about the quality of recent Mario Sports titles, but I don't get this man's hatred for the M&S Olympics. I get it if we're talking about the ones starting with Sochi 2014 or Rio 2016, but I'd argue OG Winter Olympics and London 2012 were genuinely good titles in that franchise. DS Winter Olympics was also something worth trying out, especially with it's story mode.

I played Mario hoops 3 on 3 all the time when I was kid. The music, controls, and the gameplay were awesome to me. The ONLY problem I had was the brutal difficulty the AI’s had. My memory is hazy, but when you get to the tournament where you face the final fantasy characters, I remember them being BRUTAL. Like seriously, they NEVER missed their baskets and always easily took my ball. Now that I’m 24 I would probably have an easier time but MAN did I hate them as a kid.

Mario Sports Mix blew my mind back in like, 2011. I think I've probably got a few hundred hours on it, mostly just since the rampant stage hazards and bonuses make it such a unique experience. Also, it has Waluigi Pinball. It's probably not everyone's favorite, but after playing Tennis Open after Sports Mix, I didn't even try the other 3DS sports games. I never played 3 on 3 though, so I don't doubt the Basketball mode was a downgrade. Overall, great video!

I really enjoyed Mario Sports Mix when I was little and still play it! I even made a new video of it recently. Though I only really enjoyed hockey and dodgeball. I thought basketball was ok and volleyball was boring, except for its music minigame (forgot what its called). I love the different gimmicks in each stage and Bowser Jr. Blvd and Waluigi Pinball remain my favorites. The game's not THAT bad. But I hate the limited character roster and dont understand why Shy Guys are goalies, like how theres Yoshi box players, yet arent playable. When little I thought Shy Guy was unlockable, it would make sense with them as goalies and with color options. I was disappointed just to unlock strange characters I didnt recognize. Shy Guys are my favorite characters, so a good looking mod with them playable would be one of my old dreams come true haha

Mario Golf Super Rush was over hated, it had a short yet interesting story mode that had you complete challenges with unique methods already in the game to use whatever Mii you started with, each course had many holes meaning there are a lot of different combinations you can do, the characters actually had unique game play from one another thanks to the new modes giving them unique shots/dashes that change how you approach things, battle golf was pretty fun if a bit too quick, and Speed Golf is ridiculously fun with friends to the point of being one of my favorite modes in the Mario series, compare this to every other spin off where every character is the same with stats/abilities changed to where it can make some characters way better than others no matter the course, all while having every course/track play out the same outside of player choice, I think superush is way better than most of the spin offs it is compared to, and is just hated because people just didn’t want to give it a chance so just called it bad

The problem with Speed Golf is it isn't popular with Mario Golf fans at all. Golf fans would rather play the game normally and Super Rush was meh on that end.

I would disagree. Super Rush is just bad. The courses are too generic, they feel out of place and when there's a Mario thing in these courses, it feels like the bare minimum. Only two of the course felt Mario themed, Super Rush's more realistic direction doesn't look great. In certain areas the game just looks bad, like it was made on a very tight budget. There's the gameplay. They simplify the mechanics and dumb everything down, that's one of the biggest reasons why the game has a bad reputation. The modes it has aren't good. The story mode is basically a giant tutorial, and Speed Golf is just walking to the ball. Battle Golf is the only fun mode, but it's just two courses and both are pretty much the same. It also lacked series staples and didn't even launch with proper rankings until a month after it was released. Also, the online's dead. The online for this game fell off hard because of the worse gameplay, the lack of good content, and the online not having any purpose other than just doing it. It got support for only four months before Nintendo abandoned the game. Mario Tennis Aces launched with its own set of problems, but at least with that game, it has some really good mechanics that make it like a fighting game. It also got support for over a year after it launched. Super Rush feels like it was phoned in and a lot of the ideas presented lack direction. Super Rush is hated for a good reason. It's worse in nearly every way compared to prior entries. I just wanted to fill you in on why the game's got such a checkered reputation. It's cool you got enjoyment out of the game, I'm happy for you.

Haven't watched the video yet; just wanted to say that the classic Camelot Mario Sports games on console and handheld - the last of this line of games being Mario Tennis: Power Tour, were some of the absolute best Nintendo games up until that point. I'm a grown-ass 32 yo man but to this DAY, my favourite game of all time is Mario Tennis on the GBC. I still remember not even knowing the game being a full-blown RPG when I got it for my 9th/10th birthday and how blown my mind was upon first discovery. Both on console and handheld, Mario Golf and Tennis entries were created as pristine AAA titles and to see how cheap their current releases have become is such a slap in the face to the classics and us fans who played these classics to death.

There were good patches though, with free updates similar to switch sports. I think mario and sonic Olympics was good at launch though. We have dlc of old fighters in new games nowadays so it could be worse. I'm good with mortal kombat 11 or kof orochi saga, shingo kick 🦶

The updates only furthered my resentment towards the game. At least Aces and Super Rush got content, what Battle League received wasn't content, it was just rubbing more salt in the wounds. I got flack for comparing Battle League to Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash. But it's the truth. Ultra Smash has more content and variety to a small degree.

Strikers charged was amazing, because it was just so brutal. "OH hey-a peach, how's about I SHOVE-A you into this ELECTRIC FENCE" It was the first time (outside of smash) I saw mario characters getting brutally violent with eachother.

I'm impressed this is your first video and how well edited this was. Good job! I have a very hot take on Battle League. I find the game to be the Strikers version of Ultra Smash. If you look at both games, you can see how similar they are with the minimal content and Ultra Smash, despite being a worse game, it offers more variety than Battle League by changing the texture of the court. Battle League is just playing the same soccer match constantly. The only one of the Switch's Mario Sports games I'd say is decent would be Aces. Super Rush, it's got problems that go beyond the lack of content. The courses are very generic and lack Mario elements, they feel out of place and the more realistic direction the game took doesn't look good. It looks very budgeted, there's some areas of the game that just look bad. They dumb the game down, making the once great mechanics overly simple. The adventure mode is bad, it is basically just a giant tutorial. And the featured Speed Golf mode is just walking to the ball. They prioritize the online aspect, but they kinda don't. Super Rush and Battle League launched without rankings. Super Rush got them a little over a month after it launched and the game was already dying by then. Battle League got rankings three months after launch. They act like they want these games to be viable competitive online experiences, but don't have the games launch with basic features. And while these games have sold well, in the case of Super Rush and Battle League, these games are dead in the water not even a year after release. Super Rush got three updates that didn't last five months, and Battle League got the most minimal "support" over six months being six characters and three more grassy stadiums that didn't change anything. Aces received support for over a year and it was more substantial. These "free updates" don't address the issues present. There's a lack of content. Here's a free character every month!

I hope that some kind of change happens for this series. I’m surprised we didn’t get a Mario Baseball game this year, but hopefully this means they’re slowing down Mario Sports games to make them better? Can’t be entirely sure, but Mario Sports games have been lacking as of late, mainly due to the free update system they keep trying to go for. Hopefully next Nintendo console we get fully fleshed out Mario Sports games as opposed to half-finished Early Access titles that barely get finished post-launch. Great video though! It just goes to show why I tell people that the 5th and 6th generation games and consoles are my top favorites of all time. And yeah I've played the 7th generation but nothing comes close to the 5th and 6th gen experience my siblings and I grew up in the mid to late 1990s and early 2000s....What a time to be alive at that point and I feel bad for those born after 2003/2004 who never got a chance to experience the 1990s and early 2000s gaming that we 90s kids especially did in the past.

The free update model for the Switch games was so frustratingly pointless. Nobody was coming back to Mario Tennis Open months later just because they added Paratroopa or whatever, LOL. Even worse, most of the characters added for that game were already in the story mode at launch, just as opponents.

I remember wen the trailers for Battle League were coming out, and Daisy wasn't present in them. Daisy is a staple character for the sports games. He'll everyone's favorite version of her comes from this series and she isn't anywhere to be seen? That was the first sign of things to come. Battle League had things removed that made the series fun for me, to the point that it felt like and inferior version

Pausing the vid right here to tell you -- yes, I do own a copy of Hoops 3 on 3, and it is still an amazingly thought-out game! The many courts, the funny movements and victory poses of the characters, the fact that you have to drag the miniature versions of the characters into a freaking basket hoop in order to select them for your or your opponent's team?! This was really a high point for the Mario Sports series! There's also Tourneys, which work similarly to Mario Kart. It even has the Mushroom, Flower, Star and Special Cups taken straight from said MK series! On top of that it's got many customizable features such as choosing the look of the ball, giving yourself a nickname, and having exclusive arenas for Multiplayer, in which you throw items at each other and try to collect as many coins as possible and outdo your opponent! Now THAT, is what I call a Mario Sports game with fan service! 🏀

Extremely underrated channel! Btw you got a good point about the new sports games, they don’t feel the same like Mario strikers charged or mario power tennis. One of the reasons are the free updates, that were not supposed to exist in the first place!

You aren’t nostalgiablind. I also loved Hoops 3-on-3 and outside of Sports mix, I wish the game got a flat out sequel. I wished the game got a sequel on the 3ds or even a remake. 3D-on-3D or something like that. I thought it would be the 5th game in sports superstars because it’s on the 3ds but I guess not. Though, because of how Nintendo is handling the sports games nowadays, maybe I don’t wanna see Basketball come back, with fear of how they’ll handle it.

Super Rush's Adventure mode kinda helps you do better cause at least it gives you the tools for going for those UGIR chances. Saw a lot of people that got bodied by XC Golf, that area has a neat challenge for Driver Only players.

The thing with World Tour is that is a pretty good game but it didn't do well in sales. Problem with Camelot is that it's gotten smaller through the years, it's noticeable around the Wii U era.

I would say it's an exaggeration to claim the SNES was speeding past Sega in sales. It held the slightest of sales advantages in North america of the Sega Genesis at the end of its life and was noticably weak in Europe by comparison. It really comes down to how much of a flop the Mega Drive was in Japan for worldwide sell-through. It was fiercely competitive outside Japan.

Great vid I always thought I was the only guy on the planet who loved all the sports game though I sadly never knew about Mario strikers. My main sports games were on the Wii with Mario sports mix, Mario tennis, Wii sports and Mario sluggers I still have fond memories of playing those games

It was so frustrating when I first played Mario striker's battle league online. Not because of a connection issue or anything. I had to actually keep track of my winds and losses because when the game first released they actually didn't keep track of that. Four different characters were missing which would become available over several months but I kid you not It wasn't until like every character was added to the game later that they finally decided to add a system and online play that keeps track of your wins and losses. There is no excuse for that. When you play online you expect the game to keep track of your wins and losses. It shouldn't be not available and then suddenly made available months later. It's like they just forgot to put that in the game.

I haven't played it since I was a kid, but I also have fond memories of Mario Hoops 3 on 3. I'm surprised to hear from this video that the reviews on it were bad.
