Hey Pete, as a zombie lover I was amazed by your clean-up round. The greatest Risk player I know definitely is not experienced with beating zombies when you have almost no troops. When you started beating the zombies, you had too many troops on borders where you were not expanding. When you have no bonus, the territories that you won't use to attack in the next couple of rounds should be kept as low as possible (biggest zombie stack divided by 2 + 1). Otherwise it's just a waste of troops. Those troops are much more needed on the territory you use to attack. But of course, always double check those borders before ending your round! The borders where you do plan to expand: always try to use a territory where there is only 1 zombie stack bordering first. Slowly take 1 territory per round. When there is no territory with only 1 zombie territory bordering it, evaluate if you have enough troops to attack a zombie stack, lose some and fortify back. Worst case, just skip a round. Manually throwing the dice usually fucks you up more, and you won't even get a card. Should be a last resort. But the actual surviving part when playing against other players was, as usual, damn good!

I may be in the minority. But the lesson of pain staking removal of the zombies is quite enjoyable. Also, the power of the 69 stack won it for you.

I agree. The most I've seen Pete tested in a while and that's the enjoyable bit for me.

I like watching the clean up, its like an intricate puzzle and like with this one it can prove to be much more difficult and enjoyable than the actual match was, not that the match wasn't enjoyable or anything.

I like to strategically drive a stack through the zombie front to help prevent the build-up of those large 30+ stacks. You do it with the intent of giving that ground right back, but the zombies will redistribute and give you smaller stacks to deal with. It seems to make growth easier in the mid game

I'm trying to picture what this looks like visually

@FreePete so if you imagine the zombies as a pair of spherical shapes, you want to punch through the gap in a straight but somewhat veiny line. If possible, double back so it's somewhat thicker of a line, but expect that to detract and shrivel up. It might help to visualize it by drawing it using your screen drawing tool app on your next game once you've established your initial front.

For the Zombie cleanup portion: Seems like that's maybe the hardest corner to build out of? It involved spreading across the widest part of the map and ultimately defending 2 different fronts in order to take England. What about swapping to Ireland early? I think all of Ireland can be taken with no more than a 4 point hold (and several turns of a growing 2 point while you build from the south and take cards) - versus a minimum 5 point just to hold Wales. And once you have Ireland it's a bigger bonus with a very defensible 3 point generating position and better prospects to take Scotland (again, easier than England) and begin snowballing faster. EDIT: In fact, I see a path to take all of Ireland with no more than 3 territories... you just need to take a single turn with 2 attacks in order to push through the the widest part of the island. By the time you reach it, I think you should easily have the cards/troops to accomplish this.

Pete: “I think we put this one away quickly.” Still over 40 minutes to go. Darn zombies just never die fast enough!

This map is one I'm really excited to eventually play for my fixed zombies playlist. I feel like it'll be surprisingly consistent to do well on.

Think it might be more beneficial for the cleanup running the stack to the top of the map and getting your first bonus on the 3 point

Why don't you have a throw-away squad? Send them smack three groups, bring them back, and leave 1s on the territories. The zombies will take the 1s and fortify and break down all their groups. Makes the mode so much faster.

Can i ask why you are card blocking the zombies? Is it okay to build your front, push one and refortify the original point? Instead of always pushing out from Whales, can you hold it and fortify back into it after pushing that bottom part of England? That would prevent you from having a major pocket while you develop and grow your fortifications. Around this point 30:06

I see it as Wales has 7 fronts, but look at what those fronts are, a lot are with the same blocks. So, hold Wales, push that southern front of England, bring that tail out, bring it up to where you are here, and you won't have to worry about losing several sets chasing the zombies back through that area. It will have to split holds, but losing those turns of chasing your tail back through definitely brought the numbers to exponentially higher numbers now. I'm excited to watch the ending

I don't really get the rules for zombies, especially how much they generate. Still this game was kind of oddly satisfying to watch as you mopped up the board piece by piece.

@@TheKillPeteStrategy Depends on how many players you run into that are good with zombies. Me, personally I would be bored to death on these settings, cause I like to get some juice back when I make a kill, but yeah, you could grind rank on these.

At 41:00 would it be better to stay on a 4 point and hit a stack then retreat back and farm the cheaper stacks as they seam to split after attacking and won't reinforce from outside
