I watched every episode of this show when it aired on tv but my little sister didn’t so now she is watching it on Netflix and I’m watching it with her and it’s been so fun. Today she actually stopped at the last episode before the first paintball episode because her break was up and she had to go back to work and I didn’t want to spoil anything but in my head I was just saying be prepared for one of the greatest episodes ever for a tv show

Ro Ems that’s awesome she loves it I’m sure one of the reasons she likes it is which is one of the reasons I love it is that there are so many goofy and weird scenes in the show along with goofy, weird, and unique episodes like the claymation and video game episode. The characters in this show are all unique and abnormal and a lot of the time they’re trying to act normal or what they perceive as normal. So basically it’s a really funny show that I think people of a lot of ages can find funny.

Troy Street It’s definitely the silly characters that she likes. She used to say, “Can we watch Troy and Annie”, so that tells you who she thinks is funny. I will be laughing at the dialogue that she can’t possibly understand, and she is laughing just as hard about them dropping a prop or some other form of physical comedy. It really does have something for everybody. 😂

They should have both tried harder to work together, but at the end of the day, Dan is the showrunner. Also of note: Chevy was disliked by a lot of people on set, while Dan was petitioned by the cast and fans to be rehired for S5. Some egos come with the goods.

Lizard King It’s because Dan Harmon got an ego trip and pretty much ostracized Chevy, very much like the group does to Pierce. Chevy may be a nutjob, but his anger was understandable since he signed on to be this goofy yet lovable character that was supposed to be a potential father figure for Jeff. Then Dan really started to write Pierce into a corner of being nothing more than a broken record of sexist or racist one liners. I’d be frustrated too if I was Chevy, but him and Harmon should’ve handled their issues better.

He also comes from that SNL, every man for himself, background in connect. Not so used to a communal space. Harmon himself did no one any favors with his behavior. That stunt at the season 3 wrap party was childish at best. Not too mention his harassment of female writers. In conclusion, too many egos in a room.

Chevvy didn't like the show in a lot of ways, he didn't like the way his character was becoming more unlikeable and racist, he didn't like the long hours TV shows inevitably have, he's historically not held onto a job for long since he left SNL decades ago. Harmon as creator was to Chevvy the source of these problems. Plus Harmon himself has admitted at the time he had alcohol problems/mental health issues and is in general a irritable guy. Given Harmon didn't really seem to have a problem with anyone else while Chevvy had problems with other cast and crew members it seems like Chevvy was being difficult and the problem but that Harmon wasn't the kind of guy to solve that and smooth things over, thereby making it worse.

Ezekiel 3722 i see, I’ve seen a lot of other interviews after posting this comment, and a lot of his downfall seems to be his own doing, in one of those videos, one of the cast members said that he was always late or not there at the table reading sessions. And he also made a racial statement to donald glover saying he’s only funny cause he’s black. And as for the character Pierce, tbh his character was the funniest, so it’s kinda sad to see that he didn’t like his own character. The part about Harmon being Harmon is also true. Thanks for sharing the info though, it’s nice to see discuss this from another pov.

Haikal Afiq Sadly, it came down to Dan Harmon’s ego not being able to properly solve issues with Chevy, who has had a bit of an ego. Bringing on somebody like Chevy, who once was the biggest name in the world, will always be an issue for whatever TV show decides to cast a former mega superstar. They will most likely have a sense of entitlement since they reached the true mountain top, so Harmon knew what he was getting into. Once Chevy and Dan started feuding, Dan took it upon himself to get back at Chevy through rewriting Pierce’s character. What initially was a goofy, yet lovable old man that was to serve as a potential father figure for Jeff now slowly became nothing more than a broken record of sexist and racist one liners. Obviously, that was just adding fuel to the fire and Chevy just became so frustrated that he began to act out and be irritable towards the other cast members. I’m not saying what Chevy did was justified, since he probably is just an angry old man at this point, but he was kind of pushed to that point of frustration. Hell, Dan Harmon purposely played voicemails Chevy left him at cast parties in attempt to further bury Chevy in the eyes of the crew. Since then, Harmon has apologized about his behavior, so it’s not like it was all Chevy’s fault.

As brilliant as Dan Harmon is, it's important to build a diverse cohort of creatives behind the scenes. That all white writer's room certainly makes one re-evaluate the treatment and potential of Shirley, Troy, and Chang as characters. Shirley was always underwritten/underdeveloped, Troy was always supporting Abed's storylines, and Chang went from eccentric teacher to an insane homeless man. Both Yvette and Ken had to send emails regarding their characters. Given the lack of dynamic character growth compared to others, it may have been easier for Donald and Yvette to walk away from the show when they did.

What was meant by that was: Pierce as a character has already been "painted". We know who he is. This episode wasn't trying to change who the character is, or reveal more about him, but rather change the situation into one where his character can be seen in a different light. He has more of a purpose in this episode, even if nothing about him changes.
