I am so pleased that Melody bought this to the forefront about Our community and seeing a therapist. Even when some people jumped to the conclusion that she was talking about them and they made awful statements about Melody when she was taking about someone she had a conversation with about her mother not being there for her. This is a conversation that needs to be continued for our community. All of us needed this. We know it’s happening but we don’t want to own it. Thanks for this commentary

Walking on eggshells hit home. I usually hid anything I enjoyed for fear it would be taken away. My mom and I started therapy right before she passed away suddenly. Still dealing with it. On the outside, family members probably think I didn't care about my mom but I definitely did. It's just hard if you don't live through it yourself to understand. 💔

Wow! Initially, I wasn't sure how Dr. Williams was creating the connections, especially about the motherless daughters' denial of the reality of their relationship with their moms, and then it completely made sense. 😢 bc I am she 😢..Thank you, Queen Sheba and Dr. Williams. I am looking forward to part 2

Thank you Queen Shiba for bringing this much needed convo to the Palce. 👏🏿🙏🏿❤️ OUR COMMUNITIES need this! Fortunately for me I have an awesome relationship with my mother. It truly is sad that some of my sistas/queens have a lost relationship with their moms. Childhood trauma is real and definitely affects your adulthood in so many ways. This is why therapy is important. I truly appreciate seeing more black people taking therapy and mental health seriously.

Queen Shibaaaaa, why do you keep telling my business!!! I felt like my life is on full display! This is so powerful. I am that one where knowledge of trauma was at 7yrs old 😢. I can see how just a few yrs ago I started putting up boundaries to cut off the toxic relationship with my momma. It really happened bc I noticed how she started treating my daughter the same way. This is deep ❤❤❤❤

Good morning Queen, the conversation with the therapist was well needed in these yt streets. She took her time to explain questions you put to her. I related to some of the things she explained, for myself and family members. I hope this is not the last we hear from her. Thanks again!! Continue the good work.👍

I am that daughter. My mom has been in addiction majority of my life. And I am basically her parent. It's really hard and exhausting. Her enter actions with me are very transactional, and she keeps a divide between me and my adult children.

Nationally certified!!! Real Black woman excellence ❤⭐️ This woman knows exactly what she is talking about. I’ve been in therapy for a long time because of my mother, her jealousy, & the years of narcissistic gaslighting I’ve endured. Unknowingly, the habits I’ve developed just from trying to please or combat her abuse has transformed into unhealthy habits in my life to the point I’m just now learning how to not be defensive, how to say “no” and not help/protect everyone & also how to be ok with my success and failures in life.

Wow! 🤯 My mother was only in my life for 2 years as an adolescent, but you just described those 2 years to a T! I think what is just as devastating as being a motherless daughter, is being the daughter of a woman who hates other women.

I know I am a motherlss child and inpart i know why but I also know that i've become a dope ass person. I've seen her go through things that I thought a mother would wanna protect her child from but in fact left me hella more vulnerable and susceptible than she ever was. As a mother I literally feared not being a stay at home mom, no matter how negative that made me look to people in society. I could not allow myself to be like her as a parent. I had to be and do better than her and in an environment where everyone tells you, that you are just like your mother, that was hard enough. I proved it to myself and will let no one take that from me. That was my idea of success and accomplishment. I beat a lot of her demons, that was my life.

I'm loving this conversation! I am not a Motherless daughter in the sense of my mother wasn't there because I had wonderful mother. I am one who has lost her mother and still experiences the grief of not having her even after almost 8 yrs! She passed away at the age of 50 from a rare but extremely aggressive form of breast cancer called Inflammatory Breast Cancer.

Queen Shiba, simply saying thank you to your for bringing forth a discussion with Dr. Williams concerning the topic of “Motherless Daughters,” is inadequate. This discussion simply reiterated the importance of resting the state of the “PAUSE” in order to understand who you are, where you are, how you got there and negotiating how you move forward. This discussion needs to be reviewed and note taking is a must. This discussion is forcing many to gain insights and taking responsibility for how the interact and react throughout life. Personal accountability and responsibility being discussed in the palace. Self-reflection can occur with a therapist and self-reflection can be achieved by quietly assessing who you are. This discussion was so empowering and provided an important roadmap. Grateful to everyone contributed to making this happen.
