Awesome video.. footage looks great. I own this camera as well, it's soo.. underrated. Do you do all your editing and color grading in Davinci Resolve? You should do a video showing your process on how to color grade the S1 footage.

Both the Panasonic S1H and Panasonic S1 are great camera's for 2024.

No doubt, a month after I posted this video I´ve started to seen S1´s at the 750€ range and S1H´s at the 1500€. Insane value for the price!

It’s an $800 beast for those that don’t need autofocus! The recording limit can be beat as well as long as you record in DCI 4k. No overheating message!
@RicardoSerrentino4 ай бұрын
Absolutely, there is nothing out there for this price. Also, I forgot to mention that, the ventilation is really nice, I´ve never had it overheating! Do you have or tried one?

@@RicardoSerrentino yessir I own two, and it’s big brother the Varicam as well. I use them a lot for my corporate work. If you need autofocus a used S5ii goes pretty cheap now as well. Only caviat is the batteries are not the same so that sucks but a minor inconvenience. The S1 almost all of the features of a S1H but cheaper and with a less cool screen.
@RicardoSerrentino3 ай бұрын
@@guidedvisionsmedia I have also paired the S1 with the Varicam LT and they do share the same color patterns with the v-log, it is a banger combo for real cheap nowadays. Absolutely the S1 is almost the same as the S1H but you can find it 600€/$ cheaper, that´s why I decided to make this video. Thanks on commenting!

There's a good reason why it was Netflix approved. It can produce stunning results.
@RicardoSerrentino4 ай бұрын
Hi! The S1 is not officially Netflix approved like the S1H... though it should since the features are for the most part, the same of the S1H once you upgrade the camera with the v-log firmware update, except for the low pass filter and the tiltable screen.

if u're on the market for a camera, this is the best bang for the bucks hybrid camera for indie filmmaking. get the s1 if you mainly use the camera for filmmaking and need 6k open gate, the s5 if you need to vlog. the lumix s series does everything the much, much pricier sony a7xx does. and i respect blackmagic but u need to rig it for it to be usable. their battery die within like 20 minutes while u can use these lumix just as it is. the standard battery will lasts u hours and they have superior ibis.

Using both the S5II and S1, I can say the S1 has better video quality than the S5II, even more when using rec 709 profiles. I love to crop inside my 4K or 5,9K files on my S1. On my S5II, not so much because the details rendering is worse than before. However the IBIS on the S5II is really better when walking, also of course the AF is much better too.
@RicardoSerrentino3 ай бұрын
Hello there! I´m not the most user on the 4k crop, but it does work outstandingly great. I´ve never tried the S5II but surely the IBIS should be on a next level.
@aiseurnae59763 ай бұрын
@@RicardoSerrentino Yes the IBIS is impressive in 4K on the S5II, but as soon as you use 6K (and even more Open gate), the IBIS is weaker.

Great Video! Thank you for putting so much time into making such a balanced perspective on this camera. I need to purchase my first camera in the next few weeks, and am considering this, the S5 mark 1, the Canon 1D-Xii, Canon RP, and a whatever else I can find, I need to get a working setup (With lens & everything else) for under 800GBP. I will be using it for KZbin, Client work, Social Media, and Extreme Sports, so 4k60 is well received. I don't mind micro 4/3 but a bit hesitant to go into low light situations. Any recommendations will be much appreciated! P.S: The reason the RP is on there is due to its small form factor and ease of use, my mother could use take it out and use it herself
@RicardoSerrentino4 ай бұрын
Hi! Thank you for the support Anton! I can't speak for the 1D-Xii or the Canon RP since I haven´t tried them, but for either the Lumix S5 mki or the Lumis S1, they're both outstanding cameras for the price second hand. It just depends on the use you want to give it, for example the S5 has a tiltable screen which the S1 does not have and works great for KZbin, though I preferred the S1 due to its open gate 10-bit internal recording and the ability to use cfexpress type B cards, which is a lot more profesional for client work. Hope this can throw some help on your new purchase!

I wonder if you considered getting S5 instead of this. bBeside the Opengate and heavier body, were there any other factors? thanks in advance.
@RicardoSerrentino3 ай бұрын
Hi! I actually tried the S5 mki before (one of my best friends has one), and I do feel both sensors are pretty similar, but you do get a slight different image & depth when you shoot on the open gate, was 100% sold on that feature since I was not looking for autofocus or raw. Plus, the weight difference is very little (just over 250g of difference). Thanks!
@vahidfrzh93793 ай бұрын
@@RicardoSerrentino Thank man, I don't look for autofocus or raw either. Have you ever faced any rolling shutter/ jellow effect issue while shooting opengate handheld so far?
@RicardoSerrentino3 ай бұрын
@@vahidfrzh9379Hi! It obviously doesn’t have global shutter, but rolling shutter is completely fine on the camera! It will cover you in 90% of situations

Burano doesn't have open gate! BTW it does have autofocus. It just isn't very good, especially in video.
@RicardoSerrentino4 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for your comments! Sorry for the mistake, the burano indeed does not have Open gate mode. And of course I don´t count on the autofocus for video, since I haven´t found a situation where it has been reliable to me, so I consider it inexistent.

hi, how is the manual focus for video without an external monitor? I read that you can't punch to check focus while recording, is the screen good enough to overcome this problem? thanks
@RicardoSerrentino4 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for asking! It's right that you can´t punch in but you can leave the focus peaking even while recording. It usually works fine to nail focus even at F/1.4. Though an external monitor will come in handy in most situations!

Hi! I currently have the Zeiss ZF.2 classics 50mm F1.4 and the 85mm F1.4 cine-modded, the 50mm is a lot more affordable (300-350€) than the 85mm (800€+), and they are nicely sharp at F1.4
