Great video dude! I have an S1 also and have been wanting to do a review but I’ve been slack lol glad to see other people enjoying this camera too! 😎

Got the S1H for a great price. One of the best cameras I have ever used. Great photos, great features, great video. Have used it for client work and it has been amazing.

Thanks for the video, this camera is really intriguing for the reasons you've highlighted. Cheers.

Lumix S1 user here. I almost fully agree with your opinion. Especially in 2024, this is a great value. The one thing I would have put on the dislike list is the autofocus, instead of jpegs. For me jpegs don't matter, if you want to get the best out of the camera, you need raw anyway. For most situations, autofocus is more than fine and overall it is absolutely good enough. Even in the dark. But for portraits: nah. It cannot see depth, so if you shoot a face a little from the side, the camera will sometimes focus on the front eye, sometimes on the back eye. If you shoot anything other than portrait or sports, this will be a great option. Even being 5 years on the market, it still delivers fantastic photos and videos. L mount really has matured, Panasonic and Sigma have lots of fantastic lenses. Even Leica L and M lenses fit, if you can afford them.

I shoot sports on a lumix S1 and sigma art 28-70. works great

I see your point. I use my S1 exclusively vintage and manual lenses, for the reasons I've mentioned. I went into the purchase knowing the autofocus was flawed on this camera.
@darkknight8139Ай бұрын
@@dirtyoldlenses For vintage and manual lenses, this camera is perfect. Image quality is top notch and the price is unbeatable. I would not say that autofocus is flawed, rather that the alternatives are better. Autofocus on the S5 II is miles ahead of the S1 and can actually compete quite well. When will there be a S1 II?

S1 is super good for adapting vintage lens. My only complaints are 1) the buttons on the back dial are bit stiffy and 2) it cannot record full open gate at 30p without a crop (while s5m2 can).
@darkknight8139Ай бұрын
Yes, it can record up to 6k 30p in full open gate. You need the V-Log upgrade though, while that is present as standard in the more video-oriented S5M2. That camera also has a big red dedicated video record button, while the S1 is more aimed at photographers. Video in 50p and 60p will always be cropped on the S1.
@wo-ai-xjpАй бұрын
@darkknight8139 No. S1 and S5II use the same sensor and they can shoot still photos at max resolution 6000x4000. However when shooting video in open gate at 30fps, S5II can get a resolution of 5952x3968 (almost open gate), while S1 can only get a resolution of 5376x3584 (1.1x crop equivalent).
@darkknight8139Ай бұрын
@@wo-ai-xjp If your definition of open gate is this precise, you are right. And there are some other notable differences, the S1 shoots mov in h.265, while the S5 shoots in h.264. And so on. If you say that open gate is (almost) the full sensor as opposed to a 1.5x crop factor, then both cameras have the same cropping behaviour with comparable video codecs.

Great video and awesome photos! Try the photo style which has three different monochrome styles you can choose from if you haven't already. I'm thinking about getting this camera but the S5 original is $1299.00 new with the 20-60mm kit lens. That's pretty hard to pass up at the moment, but, I want this camera and now I'm in a bit of dilemma (lol).

I'm sure the S5 is good too. I personally prefer the flip-UP screen, and I think the higher resolution EVF and LCD are worth the extra size and weight.
@pawelkret2Ай бұрын
I have S5 and S1. S1 is a shelf above S5, the difference in viewfinder is very big, in S1 you have top display, additional function buttons. Now you can buy practically new S1 for 1000 USD/EUR.
@cernach13Ай бұрын
@@pawelkret2 I bought the S1 on Adorama in mint condition but the battery won't charge. It stays at 50% charge and it's not enough to even turn the camera on. Thinking about sending it back.

I've shot nothing but M43 so far. I'm happy enough with it, but I'm considering a full frame camera to check out the quality difference, especially low light performance, and also because the M43 crop basically turns all my vintage lenses into some level of telephoto. 😅 I'm looking at Panasonic first because I'm reasonably familiar with their G cameras - good to hear that this model ticks a pretty big box on my checklist. Pity about the jpegs, but y'know, I need to start stretching my RAW editing muscles too...

What a beautiful video! Are there any chances to make a video on processing raw files, love the way your image looks, feel like films, epic! I am also S1 user btw

Thank you. I use photoshop raw, no lightroom, no presets. I'll consider making a video.

Hope u read this. It is more like technical question, on last seconds of video u got industar lens on s1, what adapter are u using and can u share what adapters u use for old lenses please.
@dirtyoldlenses2 ай бұрын
Sure. I typically use cheap fotasy lens adapters from Ebay. For the Industar I use a l39 to M mount adapter, then use a M mount to L mount adapter. If you spend more money, you can get a "close focus" M mount adapter and can focus closer than 1m.

Samsies! I was looking for a camera to adapt my m42 and FD lenses. Got mine for a similar price at Adorama as well, and it also came with the 6k update. I only really dislike how huge it is (I prefer smaller bodies).
@dirtyoldlenses3 ай бұрын
Nice! I find the size is much less of an issue when I adapt small rangefinder lenses.

Hi there what do you edit with? I edit with light room for iPad and it always defaults my 65:24 photos to a 3:2 image. Any tips?
@dirtyoldlensesАй бұрын
Hi. Lately I edit with Adobe Camera Raw in Photoshop on PC, and Photoshop Express on Android. The desktop version of photoshop will maintain the crop on raw photos, but the mobile version doesn't. I haven't found a really good raw developer for mobile devices yet.

Ah man. Just had a price drop to one if these in a local shop near me to 780 dollars with 3400 shots in it. And then the first video I watch is yours. And I also only shoot vintage glass. And your style is very similar to my fav youtuber Mattias Burling. Ah man my GAS is off the roof now......
