That was maybe some banter by Liverpool fans because Caicedo and Chelsea were having a rough time. For me I rate Caicedo highly. Also Jackson has been better than Nunez till now. Now that we have cleared those two points coming to your point about Caicedo being better in that game, I agree he was marginally better than gravenberch in that game but I see both Chelsea and Liverpool games and I can very confidently say on the sample size we have had both have been almost equally good for their respective clubs. Caicedo just better player. Not even a debate. I rate him very highly since at Brighton. I still had faith on him even though he considered a flop last season. He has physicality, can pass, tackle, ball winning & possession & aggressive. He is fully package. I even rate baleba more than gravenbceh. They are both amazing players so we can look at their H2H. Caicedo got an assist, 2 key passes, 2 succ long balls and 1 big chance created. Gravenberch had 0 key passes, 0 long balls, 0 crosses and 0 chances created. Gravenberch did clear the ball 3 times, to Caicedos 1, but that is the only stat he won. Caicedo got a 7.5, Gravenberch a 6.6.

Palmer is the star of the team, but Caicedo is the backbone of it all. People say that we'd be midtable without Palmer, but I find that to be false, we'd be midtable without Caicedo. The way Caicedo has been dominating that midfield this season is nothing short of spectacular, performances absolutely worth the £100m. I think Caicedo has proven himself to be the 2nd best DM in the league behind only Rodri who is injured rn anyway.

The better context is that Liverpool bought an entire midfield with Gravenberch, Maccalister, and Szoboszlai, for close to the same amount Chelsea spent on Caicedo. Did Liverpool really want Caicedo or did we just pump up the prices? Who performed better in their first season, who won head to head, and who’s leading the league(s)?
