🇬🇧 The Pantheon is the most fascinating and best preserved temple of ancient Rome.
Its excellent state of conservation is due to the fact that in 609 AD it was transformed into the church of S. Maria ad Martyres.
The first construction of this building was carried out in 27 BC from Agrippa as a temple dedicated to the seven planetary deities: Sun, Moon, Venus, Saturn, Jupiter, Mercury, Mars.
Its current appearance is due to the emperor Hadrian who rebuilt it while maintaining the large original bronze inscription on the architrave.
👁‍🗨 The most striking element of this ancient monument is certainly the imposing dome, on whose central top opens the oculus, a large opening that is the only source of light for this structure.
The Pantheon is certainly the highest expression of spatial synthesis of Roman architecture.

🇮🇹 Il Pantheon rappresenta il tempio più affascinante e meglio conservato dell’antica Roma.
Il suo ottimo stato di conservazione è dovuto al fatto che nel 609 d.C. venne trasformato nella chiesa di S. Maria ad Martyres.
La prima costruzione di questo edificio fu realizzata nel 27 a.C. da Agrippa come tempio dedicato alle sette divinità planetarie: Sole, Luna, Venere, Saturno, Giove, Mercurio, Marte.
Il suo aspetto attuale si deve all’imperatore Adriano che lo riedificò mantenendo però sull’architrave la grande iscrizione bronzea originaria.
👁‍🗨 L’elemento che colpisce maggiormente di questo monumento antico è sicuramente l’imponente cupola, sulla cui sommità centrale si apre l’oculus, una grande apertura che costituisce l’unica fonte di luce di questa struttura.
Il Pantheon è sicuramente l'esempio di più alta espressione e sintesi spaziale dell’architettura romana.
