1971: David Cassidy asked for some more adult-sounding songs on the second album, and got them. This one came from producer Wes Farrell and veteran lyricist Gerry Goffin, once married to Carole King. It led off the LP, with David, Shirley Jones and the Ron Hicklin Singers, plus members of LA's famed Wrecking Crew and others handling the instrumentals. One of their best.

Can someone tell me why we DON"T realize til we hit our 50's how fast life truly flies by? I'm 57 and I just want to cry when I hear the old "Bubblegum Music". I fell hard for "Shaun Cassidy". In fact a long time ago (1988) , I gave birth to my daughter. My husband said he had a "Push Present" for me. Well 2 weeks later he took me to Burt Reynolds Dinner Theater. SHAUN CASSIDY was the star of the play and not only were our seats front row center, at the end my husband after tipping the waiter, handed him another $50 which I thought was odd. Suddenly I found myself standing in front of Shaun and I felt like an idiot!! I could NOT speak, the words were not coming, bear in mind he was only wearing tight orange silk pants and nothing else! He and my husband spent several mintutes talking and for the most part laughing at me. But I got even 8yrs later when I hooked things up for him to meet HIS Idol James Taylor. Sure as hell while I spoke to James my husband stood there in stunned silence LOL!!

It was 7th or 9th grade, I’m not sure which, but it was the last great time in my life. I was in love with an adorable 8th grade boy. I was cute, young, thin, popular, a cheerleader-you know, the things vitally important to a Jr. High girl. Then the bottom fell out. My parents separated, then went through a very acrimonious divorce that unwittingly involved me. It was an extremely traumatic experience. The AM bubble gum pop music of the time became something of a salve for my wounds. This was one of those songs…silly as it might be, that can still make me feel just a bit better.

Jeff…I agree, the P-Fam records had incredible arrangement & production values! “I’ll Meet You Halfway” was written by Gerry Goffin and producer Wes Farrell. Instrumental arrangements were done by keyboardist Mike Melvoin, and the vocal arrangements were by Tom Bahler, John Bahler, Jackie Ward and Ron Hicklin…all of whom also sang those wonderful background vocals. It’s always bugged me when The Partridge Family records get lumped in with “bubblegum music.” Actually, the music is more in line with adult contemporary of the time…i.e. Carpenters, 5th Dimension, The Association, etc. ✌🏻
