Skiing in Florida? I think a mistake like that could result from there being two cities or towns with the same name. For example, there's St. Petersburg, Florida, AND there's St. Petersburg, Pennsylvania.

Hi. Learner's dictionaries will give some guidance through examples. Additional links to check out: grammarist.com/usage/closer-vs-closure/ Google: Do a search and you'll see "closing(s)" used very often in the context of schools (i.e., school closings). However, it seems the word "closure(s)" is used more in the context of businesses. Personally, I'd word your idea less formally: The barber shop closes, and it was a real inconvenience. Good job. But I just want to tell you a hint made myself. I am used to writing by random form with both, be and get. I got started my work late because I was involved in rush hour, so I got lost the track of time, nevertheless, I was helped by the police in order to get scaped by a narrow street. By the time I was absolutely worried because I was late, fortunately, I got arrived at work on time. I try don't overused the passive form

This is a very interesting lesson. We can see how "get" and "got" can both be used with a passive verb: We can get it done, I hope to get promoted, We need to get it finished, We get tired easily, I got it completed, I hope you got that increase, We got it finished, We got tired easily. # We got tired easily - "We tired easily" works better. Unnecessary helping verbs should be removed unless necessary. I got invited to a restaurant for Christmas lunch in 2017. Ten or so years ago, I got hopelessly lost in a strange town when I took a wrong turn.
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 3 жыл бұрын
Good examples! Well, I need to follow up with another lesson on passive causative. That's a bit different from GET + past participle (as an adjective). Here I decided to focus on state, not causation.

@@Englishwithjennifer It is incredible how much there is to know about verbs. The subject-verb agreement is not as straight forward as it appears either. "The family is" and not "The family are" being one that has caused me a bit of confusion of late.

The last time I got seriously lost was two weeks ago when I had to take care of my newborn nephew for a while. He did not stop crying his heart out until his parents returned. I felt like a terrible aunt. I didn't know where I was! 🙃
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 3 жыл бұрын
Some children feel greater anxiety over separation from their parents. It wasn't your fault. It's heartbreaking to hear such cries. I know. This is a good example, although it's a figurative meaning of being lost. You might say, "I felt completely lost." That would likely suit the situation more.
@romina1645
@romina1645 3 жыл бұрын
@@Englishwithjennifer That's right, I felt completely lost in that situation. I wasn't sure of using it (get lost) in a figurative meaning so I put it in the example. Thanks for clarifying my doubts.👍🤗

Hi Dear teacher I have question (let's get started) is passive of get or passive of simple present tense?
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 5 ай бұрын
I see it as passive (get + past participle). Use of "get" in the passive focuses on the start of something, like get engaged or get married. You begin a state. You enter a state. "Get" can also be heard as more informal, more conversational. You might understand it as "get ourselves started."

Thank you very much for reply dear teacher. Another question that i am confusing with is that > i want to be confirmed if i am correct. This sentence is infinitive passive or simple present passive? 2Q: is there a difference between infinitive passive and present tense passive?
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 5 ай бұрын
"I want to be confirmed." >> The context isn't clear to me. I can't think of a situation where this would be logical. Compare: I want my seat number to be confirmed. = I want someone to confirm my seat number. This second example makes sense. SVOC. I see the object as an object complement.

Excuse me sir, I want to know whether the verb get in the following sentence has the same quality as in the second sentence : 1/ I got hurt in a car accident. 2 / My parents get annoyed if I come home late. The second thing that I need to know is " get annoyed " passive voice or " get + ed adjective " .
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, those are both examples of GET + past participle. "Annoy" is a regular verb, so it takes an -ed ending. GET is similar to "become" here. It refers to the start of a new state. These are passive constructions.

I literally got lost last Monday when I wanted to catch the Cairo Metro. I shouldn't have relied on my muscle memory the way I always do. I got so confused where the station was and I took a lot of wrong turns. Therefore, I had to walk about 30 minutes to get to the station.

I've done that in the car. I thought I knew where I was going, and then I realized I didn't. The other funny thing that has caused many drivers to miss their exit off the highway is that the state changed the exit numbers! We all all got frustrated the first week we saw new numbers on on the exit signs. We couldn't remember where to get off. Well, look on the bright side, you got 30 minutes of exercise. :)
