" God has not promised his people a smooth path through this world" He actually does " he leadith me beside the still waters he causeth me to lie down in green pastures. So Mr. Pink is wrong in the very opening statement of his sermon.

"In the world you will have tribulation" (John 16:33) "Yea, and all those who live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution." (2 Timothy 3:12-13) "Remember what I told you, no servant is greater than his master, if they have persecuted me, they shall persecute you" (John 15:20) A Christians does have joy in the Lord, but his path is a straight, narrow a gate that leads to life. As Christ had said " let him deny himself, take up his cross and follow me"

Often, if I may humbly remind you (as a fellow pilgrim of the straight and narrow way), God's word is a "double edge sword" in that it cuts both ways. Yes, as you said: " He makes me to lie down in green pastures," but scripture also reminds us, sometimes," Many are the afflictions of the righteous." We must not have a " lopsided " knowledge of the 'Word of God'. A believer does go through times of deep sorrow and mourning and afflicted, often because of sin. As the Spirit of God is in us, Christ Jesus disciplines and scourges every son whom he receives. So that ultimately, we may partake in his holiness and be moulded into his very likeness. (Hebrews 12:6) (1Thess 4:3-6) This is part of the Holy Spirit's work to SANCTIFY the true believer, for without holiness, no one shall see the Lord.
