A grinder is someone who will move the puck onto the other team's side and check players but doesn't go for shots on net. The deck kind of fits as it prioritizes killing over playing the object.

In terms of self heal I saw Grinder as someone who just gets to work and doesn't quit. Which is obviously a personality trait thats important for athletes. The biggest issue for the character is how is this hockey player also a genius engineer. If he was not making enough money as an athlete he could get a job in RnD

@@PillarOfWamuu a lot of geniuses dont care about the money, but about the fun and thrill of it. You can see it a lot in the programmer and hacker sphere, where people just do it as a little game and for the fun of it. It stops being fun for them, the moment some else tries to direct them and their skills. Big example: Pirate Software, he worked for blizzard and the American energy system, he could have made stacks of money very quickly, but instead he moved on to streaming and indie game dev. So, in my opinion, that "hidden genius trait" is what makes him more unique and believable, similar to how Hoxton is just a cruel bastard.

Gotta say, the original Wolf from PDTH was perfect. His interactions and voice had that certain charm to it. It's just sad to see, that we have lost it thanks to the drama that occurred within the original team.

Absolutely agreed. The original Wolf was scared shitless of specials, just him screaming "BUUULDOOOZEEEER!" on top of high lungs gave so much personality, it was just perfect. 6:45 you raise a good point here I think a lot of fans (and even sometimes the devs) lost sight of. The payday gang are not heroes. They are greedy pieces of shit who will shoot anyone for a stack of bills. Sometimes the plot itself seems to lose sight of this, especially in payday 2, but I really liked the darker tones of PDTH because of it (even if I think the gameplay of PD2 is overall better). In PD2 no mercy was retrofitted to be the whole Kotaru and Bain and magic Book and all that shit, but I really liked in PDTH how No Mercy was just the gang willing to shoot up a hospital to sell a sick man’s blood as a potential bio-weapon. (And the Easter egg tie in that they may have inadvertently caused Left 4 Dead by breaking the sick man’s quarantine)
@Pobert697 ай бұрын
Agreed, No Mercy in PDTH along with like every other classic heist in PDTH hits that tone so much better than in PD2. PD2 is a better game for sure, but PDTH had a much better atmosphere

I agree that it sometimes feels like even the devs forget that, but I'd still argue a LOT of the forgetfulness as a whole of that fact lies primarily on the fandom for not being able to separate the concept of the Payday gang being the protagonists and also being villains. The whole Kataru plot really tries to lean outside of that, but at the end of the day when you really get down to it? The only reason the Payday gang even knows about them, let alone combats them is because Kataru tried to fuck with them. There's not actually much indication that the gang specifically has any feelings about Kataru's whole deal beyond the fact that they tried to use the gang, and then tried to fuck them over. The game definitely tries to skirt more roundly around just how bad the gang really is, but people's perception of them is mostly self made as the result of seemingly being unable to perceive bad guys having a problem with even worse guys that tried to screw them over. Granted, on the extreme end of their scale, the gang absolutely counts as terrorists in multiple countries, but even that's at least a step below world domination and that has to be where people get the wrong perception of the gang. The fact that they're technically punching up makes people forget the fact that they're still mass murderers and literal nuclear terrorists (twice over even, I believe)
@azrael_hypo10 ай бұрын
i think a running theme is untapped potential. most characters just have voicelines, perk decks, a paragraph of backstory, and trailers to give them personality, and it's not enough to get attached beyond aesthetics. i think Jimmy's voice acting is the most compelling in the game, but the reason i love him is because he has so much character in Hardcore Henry and his portrayal here is very faithful. stuff like the web series is important because there just isn't much room for exploring the characters with the structure of the Payday games, so they need to make sure anyone they introduce either gets fleshed out elsewhere or comes from a franchise which has already done that

honestly jacket would probably be my hardest character to rate for payday characters on one hand he's jacket, one of the most iconic characters in all of gaming imo and the way they let him have voicelines while also not breaking his character trait of not really talking in a perfect way that makes him feel more sociopathic than he already is by nature is probably one of the smartest decisions for a crossover character in all of media but on the other hand he's jacket, a very story driven character in a game where he can't really have any story based around him since he doesn't talk leaving him as kind of just the dude that has a chicken mask and uses a tape recorder to speak if you don't already know his backstory from hotline miami and even if you do that's where his character development ends, he's a mass murderer of the russian mafia that listens to ghosts and schizophrenia phones that for some reason decided to start robbing banks and pmc hideouts if they added a story to him like bain/the dentist had connections to 50 blessings somehow and used them to make him raid/steal maybe it'd make more sense for him to be there but it'd also make no sense hotline or paydaywise, however since they've just left him with nothing he's kinda just the character of jacket it doesn't feel like it's hotline miami jacket, my headcannon is that payday 2 jacket is just like a fan from hm2 who's actually fully insane and is fully adopting what he thinks jacket would do but there's also some glaring issues with that he's 100% a high tier character in at least the top 10 but at the end of the day, jacket is an amazing character in an amazing game but they both feel like puzzle pieces that just can't match up no matter what

Duke's always been my #1 so I'm happy to add some more to his awesomeness: -Total gentleman thief. He's incredibly affluent and well-read. Almost all of his voice lines in-heist are references to literature and historical events. -Steals for the thrill and the art of it; he is already fabulously wealthy before joining Payday Gang, and in fact only did so for the Kataru mystery (his FBI files denote surprise regarding his joining the gang, given his normal crimes are so far from the Payday gang's M.O.) -The comment about Stoic implying that he is actually a bit mad on the inside, is actually sort of *opposite* to the truth. I don't remember if this is official canon or just widely-accepted fanon or even the first place I heard this from, but it's implied that Duke uses whiskey to numb not only the pain of gunshots but the horrors of murder. He despises getting his hands dirty, and really does only go along with it out of necessity to get to the bottom of the Kataru mystery. As a result, you're actually not too far off in calling him a stealth-only heister. I desperately hope that Duke returns in Payday 3 but *not* as a heister; I hope he comes back as a wealthy art dealer and a contractor for the gang. Especially in an Elephant-type role, where he would reward keeping things clean.
@F.M67118 күн бұрын

@TigerKirby2159 ай бұрын
It's funny that you mention how Duke is a more refined character but has that insanity with Stoic: I personally think that Duke is essentially putting on a facade. That yes he is an intelligent character but when the going gets tough he lets the mask slip. When bullets start flying and he takes a few sips from the flask he stops caring about being the refined art lover and all his voice lines carry this perfect amount of "I am goddamn sick of this shit" energy. He sounds like the perfect "one bad day" character and in a way that makes him all the more terrifying. You can imagine Duke being a guy you share a few words with while in line at the grocery store, and the fact this guy murders legions of police as his day job while wearing the mask of a respectful "stoic" man is what makes him such a great heister.

My thoughts on some of the cast... Wolf: Though unlikely to come up, it would be interesting to see Wolf's family brought up as part of the narrative. Pearl: I've yet to play Payday 3, so I can't give a good opinion on Pearl. That said, I feel like it would've been more fitting if we got the return of that sniper girl that nobody remembers from the web series to be in Pearl's place. Jimmy: Reminds me that I need to watch Hardcore Henry. Rust: One thing that I didn't like about Rust is that there isn't much in the way of explaining why he betrayed the MC outside of money. I know it's a strange thing to critique given the theme of Payday, but still. Would've at least been cool if there was some unique dialogue if you select Rust for The Biker Heist that could explain his reason for betrayal more. I mean, it seems to have taken some sort of toll on him if Prison Nightmare's anything to go off of. Sangres: I feel like it'd be interesting to see some more cartel focused heists should Sangres return. Cartels are infamous for being some of the most brutal people you can come across. Perhaps that could be played off of. Duke: Easily my favorite heister next to Chains. I love how modest he is and his backstory is amazing. Ethan & Hila: I honestly don't mind Ethan & Hila. The idea of a content creator pretty much being forced into a career in organized crime with little to no experience is a cool idea. I know the VA ain't great, but I try to justify it as just part of the "inexperienced heister" schtick they have. Is it a good excuse? Probably not, but it's how I see it.

The one thing that ruins a lot of the characters for me, is their Safe House and "Player Tip" trivia about the heisters. A lot of them were tacked on afterthoughts that didn't expand the character. Dragan to me, was wasted potential as the Butcher contracted him out to help the Payday gang. There was some mystery surrounding those two and that couldve cemented more exciting story lines involving them. In the Safe House, hes doing push ups and talks about working out

There was and maybe still is so much potential for some PD2 heisters to become contractors in PD3. For example, Jiro returning to Japan or starting his own Syndicate (he does have the notoriety and connections) and contracting Payday gang for an overseas venture. If the gang does go international at one point, then I think that the stage is set with all these international heisters. On the topic of Joy, is it not heavily implied that Joy was the one who actually hacked crime net for Locke, and he brought her in? I think there is a storyline there, where Joy's expertise as a hacker could become a very important pivotal change the gang needs in a more technologically advanced world. Where she becomes someone coordinating the heist in real time, helping with hacks and letting her disrupt the police or help cover our tracks. I think the out of heist world and gang functionality is something that needs seriously bringing more up to speed.

When I first got the dlc and being my main heister I was shocked and had big smile when I heard his voice lines cuz that is literally slang what we use daily. Dragan is 2nd balkan character I witnessed in gaming, 1st one was ofc niko from gta 4 and it was unfortunatelly ruinned and everyone in balkan felt disappointed cuz voice acting was terrible when he was talking in native language cuz it didn't sound at all how we would say cuz voice actor was american. Aslo speaking of dragomir it's nice to see that almir and dragomir are friends together irl and most likely almir was the one which introcued him in the game cuz he was talking on stream how they talked in dms and asked him does he want to be in his game etc. Plus dragomir itself before he became actor and voice actor he was bank robber and he was in jail then after he somehow became actor and moved to sweden.

The H3H3 pack is bad for the reasons you said, but also even more! - The Airbow was added right at the peak of the Crossbow Meta (if anyone remembers that) and there was this real feeling at the time that every DLC was going to have a weapon better than the last in it. - The pack adds two whole characters instead of just one, which has never happened before. It makes them twice as much a sore thumb as someone like John Wick. - The pack released about the time when H3H3s online perception sort of turned downward. - H3H3 put out a video of them playing PAYDAY to promote the Collab, and it was painfully obvious it was their first time touching it and everyone flamed them. - The Tag Team perk deck is a fun idea, but has always underperformed from the day it was added to this very day. It's a shame, because I feel like there is a universe out there where this was done more tastefully and with more self awareness and isn't just a really weird embarrassing footnote about the game.

Of course it could be attributed that he likely grew up in USSR/with mostly russian culture, but still, feels a bit weird (also, according to wiki, it says that initially he was planned to be russian, but was changed to ukrainian during development, so it's even weirder why do that, if seemingly it doesn't really change his character much). If we somehow get another hotline Miami crossover (I doubt it considering the franchise is done now) I think a good way to get around the whole “character that can’t speak” problem is to just use a different hotline Miami character. As much as people love Jacket, myself included, the hotline Miami fan base also loves a lot of the other characters. I reckon people would be just as happy if we got biker in the game for example. You could actually make Hotline Miami’s inclusion in the Payday story make more sense by adding biker as biker is the only playable character in the Hotline Miami franchise that is never explicitly said to die at the end. It’s possible he leaves Miami at the end of his story and managed to escape the nuke. Then they can just confirm the theory that the Jacket you see in Payday 2 is just a Jacket copycat that happen to also be very skilled and everything makes sense I think.

Joy is my favorite because of her character and her voice lines in Payday 2 as well as her being a gamer. I haven’t found her voice annoying, I quite like it. Her fit is also quite good in both games, but her simplistic hoodie has a charm to it.

payday 3 idea for Houston, with DLC two being named "boys in blue" maybe he went undercover as a police officer incase the payday gang needed an inside man in the police. and maybe the heist revolves around the gang dressing up as officers to steal some case files and of course, money, gold, and guns from the police evidence locker.

Considering all the characters in payday 2 to ditch, to get rid of a character based purely on popularity is 100% what i'd expect the devs to do at this point. "We have 2 podcasters but let's get rid of the biker from our bank robbing game."

Even just with a random or a half-competent bot, a good player can turn Tag Team into a very very strong deck. I think it had the #1 spot for a medic/ team healer type of deck until Leech was added. I love it on my heavy sniper build. Graze kills proc the vape pen's effects, so you rack up crazy uptime and resistance with it.

Hey, just wanted to put my two cents I really think that Jiro speaking only japanese is absolutely a good thing. The character being bilingual would make him english+, essentially. Idk, I’m saying that as a natively french speaker. English speakers don’t necessarily realize that their norms and culture are imposed on everyone. Having subtitles to Jiro’s lines would solve all the problems, and leave Jiro as a proud and loud voice of diverse culture. I’m mostly just grossly explaining my thoughts. But that sounds good to me. Oh and, no, people can’t just change the language settings. Payday never had non-english voice acting. Even if they did, it’d just alienate all other languages from the already very english community. If we all have the same version and actors, and use subtitles, we can all be synchronized and be solid as a community, and appreciate everyone else’s cultures and languages. I don’t want to sound over the top, but that leads me to an idea. Imagine if you could change the characters skin colour in the settings, to match your own culture. That’d be hella wrong, right?? Same thing with that. If you got subtitles, then purposely changing a character’s language to another is just, cultural washing. Ouch… this became a lot more of a hot take than I anticipated lmao

watching from near the start right now, will likely edit my comment later, but I will say I enjoyed Joy's performance in PD2 and i liked playing as her. I do respect your opinion and she didn't mixed with you. with dallas and wolf, i completely understand. Chains i absolutely love and on my own tier list, he is with Hox. They are the highlight of the games for me. pearl... from what little i played before finding payday 3... overhyped, undercooked, though that's just for me and i respect others for really enjoying the game. Kknowley, you are a truly amazing in this and i love your challenges and videos of law, knowledge and everything. Keep it up, man. it's why i subscribed. commentary is top notch. love it as for the rest of the heisters, i have to agree with all besides maybe john wick and jiro. Jiro i find really interesting and unique. his design feels very close to how i imagine a yakuza would dress and his denouement shows both honor and understand of how the world works, which fits with him being the oldest. I love him and would put him in a mid way between S and A... a A+ or S- . his aesthetic to me feels so faithful towards how his backstory and background go about it and makes him feel really good, even if his story was never finished and his son was never found. really hope he returns in payday 3 and there's a whole story about getting kendo to see his father, get past their differences... As for John wick, i feel his lines are very fitting for what he is, a movie actor and a sort of spy type guy... i haven't seen the movies, so i am just basing it off his trailer.. i'd bump him to B due to his design fitting his style but the lack of a proper mask, and instead shades... while suiting the character, doesn't feel like a heist look. he does deliver some of his lines well, in my view, but is not as convincing as Chain's voice or hox. I like his design and i think duel wielding is interesting... but, with the downside of more ammo spent and less accuracy, it's tough to really use his perk deck or his style of weapons. it's a Soft B solely due to him being A: a crossover character to promote a film, and B: for his actively good lines that he can deliver well. at least they are better then ethan and hila, though Hila did try to put some passion into the her lines.. so that's something

Unless they retconned it, you do find Kendo in PD2. If I remember correctly he ends up being highly ranked in Murkywater, and you end up coming across him when rescuing Bane from prison.
