PayPal is no fun at all. It's the worst part of bookkeeping hands down.

Hi! Thanks for your great videos! When there is a refund or such that does not show up on the bank feed, do you just manually add it? Do you use a category like PayPal refunds?

Here is a video about adding in the missing refunds: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWGqmJppfKaHrJo Where you categorize them depends upon the type of bookkeeping you are doing, but a general PayPal Refunds account is often a great choice.

I'm really stuggling with all the information on Paypal and what I need to bring over into my QB desktop
@SmallBusinessSarah Жыл бұрын
It has been a long time since I have worked with QB Desktop. With QuickBooks Online, I just link the PayPal account to QB, and the transactions are brought over. Not sure what you would do with desktop. Maybe someone here will have an idea for you.

I want to see only payouts (payments I made to others). I click on Activity, click on payments sent, checkmark all, then click on download...it sends me to the page you have up with balance affecting and no ability to only download the previous activity page where I check marked all the payments out. Wondering what is going on?

I'm really not sure!

Would you know how to general this? Someone could make a lot of money if they could understand totals on Paypal and how to put them in QB Desktop without bring over a hundred entries.

Would you know what it means when a general withdrawal transaction says removed? I find this report confusing as hell because of all the holds and pendings that they include. I just want completed transactions and there doesn't seem to be a way to get that anymore.
@SmallBusinessSarah Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I have seen "removed". I have seen holds and releases, but not removes. With weird things like that I tend to use the Balance column to help determine if a line actually affected the balance or not. If it didn't affect the balance I know I can ignore it.

After you download the cvs file from paypal how do you convert it into an excel sheet?
@SmallBusinessSarah2 жыл бұрын
I usually work with it in the CSV format, but you can simply use the Save As feature to convert it to excel format.
@TrevorFosterTheFosterDojo Жыл бұрын
Yes you can open the .csv file in Excel then as soon as it loads, save as .xls or whatever you want

So...I wish this info was still accurate, but for me - today -- it is not. This is not the view I get with my personal PP account. The Balance Impacting report does not have a column titled Fees this year, nor does the column titled TYPE include any PayPal fees paid -- every other type of transaction imaginable is listed, but not the fees you paid to paypal. The only way to see Paypal fees paid is by viewing each Monthly Activity report, and even then you have to MANUALLY add up the fees paid column because the Total Fees Paid at the bottom of the reports show $0 paid even though there is clearly $$$ deducted next to the itemized transactions! This is ridiculous. I called Paypal and they said that having a business account DOES NOT allow you to see fees paid either; even the CR manager said this. Also, I downloaded the monthly activity reports, which will only download as pdf files into a zip folder from Paypal. So you can't even convert them into Excel format for easier tallying unless you have an Adobe Pro account. I really wish someone could help me with this fees paid vortex of silliness, but even Paypal customer service said they know this has been an issue since 2020 have been silent in addressing it. Do better, Paypal. Also, the only way to find these activity reports now is to click on your settings cog wheel FIRST and that will bring up a second ribbon of options-- then click on Reports & Taxes -- and that's where you now can find your monthly Activity reports, and customize them, blah blah blah and manually total each month's looong list of itemized fees paid. If you just try to click on the Activity button from your home screen view without first clicking on the Settings/cog wheel, you can only see activities - you can't access reports that way. FYI, this is the user experience regardless of whether you access Paypal via their app or via their website. And yeah, my s/w is up to date across all devices -- both Dell laptop and iphone 13, etc.

Hi Lynn, PayPal can be super frustrating. I agree! However, I wanted to mention that for me and my clients with business PayPal accounts the report is still generating as described in the video and there is a fees column. In addition, when I run this report from my personal PayPal account, I also have a fee column. I have found that PayPal can be different between users. Why I have no idea. But at least for me, everything is pretty much currently as described in the video.
