JD4 and JD2014 were the reasons why I became a fan of the game. I wasn't interested in the games before then but after seeing what the song list was like and actually seeing the maps, I was hooked

JD4, JD2014 and JD2015 are the Golden Classic Era of Just Dance in the franchise. It shows based off the tracklist of these three games. My Top 5 is in this order; 1 - JD2022, 2 - JD2014, 3 - JD2018, 4 - JD4, 5 - JD2019. Just Dance 4 is 4th favorite and Just Dance 2014 is my 2nd favorite. I started Just Dance with Just Dance 2014 and 4 FIRST back when I first played the Wii U in 2015. That was when I got introduced to the franchise and I enjoyed it so much that it actually helped me through the passing of both of my parents... along with a lot of video games cause hey, I need some form of escapism. Out of all of the Just Dance games, this era of Just Dance is the MOST well known and talked about in the Just Dance community and the MOST defining which helped created an impact by adding texture to the coach's outfits and the animated and fully detailed backgrounds. The only drawback is that they removed the face details and pretty much every game with human coaches look like scary mannequins, until my 1st favorite game - JD2022 where they brought back the face details which is a great homage to the box arts of the PAL versions of the games. There used to be two versions of the box arts depending on region from JD1 to JD2020. Thankfully it is now only box art for both regions from JD2021 and onwards. The popularity of this Golden Classic Era is something that the Just Dance Team has definitely looked back on and make sure that they got out and capture the moment that fans loved about JD4 and put it into JD2023 and JD2024... with a mix of cartoony maps from the recent Just Dance games leading up to what I would call the "Stream/Plus Era" of Just Dance. Just incase you're curious where I marked points as Eras... *Classic Era* is JD1 to JD2015, *Modern/Unlimited Era* is JD2016 to JD2022, and *Stream/Plus Era* is JD2023 and JD2024. While there isn't really any sales figures to show on any... the most popular is seemingly noted to be JD4. It had the most downloadable content (DLC) of ANY Just Dance game depending on what system eShop you purchase it from and it had a total of 50 songs from the Base Game, which rivals its predecessor JD3 which from what I see from limited sales figures is the BEST selling game out of the franchise. But from what I have seen in the shift in quality from JD2022 and onwards due to higher budgets, that might actually be JD2021 that is the best selling game... due to the pandemic. For me, what defines as being the best Just Dance game is mostly on the tracklist and the quality of the maps, and OH BOY... this series has ups and downs. The worst game in terms of tracklist is indeed JD2016 which also introduced Just Dance Unlimited, a subscription that we initially hesitated by the count that now Just Dance+ had in JD2023... but we eventually accepted it pretty quickly due to how bizarre the Base Game was in the tracklist. It did had a LOT of modes to enjoy and we got the ability to make custom playlists. They were REALLY testing the boundaries of what the engine could do and it shows when the Wii and Xbox 360 versions of the game uses the same Menu and HUD as JD2014 and JD2015 while the rest of the platforms has their own unique menu which lasted till JD2018 which became the last JD game for the Xbox 360, JD2019 became the last JD game for the Wii U since practically every Nintendo user switched to the Nintendo Switch which has been supported since JD2018 physically, and JD2020 was the last game for it to be supported on the Wii. And now in JD2023, it is only on Nintendo Switch, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Some detail points for each era. I have been playing Just Dance for almost 10 years and I have experienced these defined points of the series, and there are 3 of them which makes sense why I said the 3 eras. *Classic Era* is the old OG era of Just Dance where the franchise was relatively new and they were creating and building their custom engine for the game. This era is between *JD1 and JD2015* . The menu styles were very unique for each game in this era and a lot of their modes were more catered to causal gameplay with the one constant feature that is still around to this day apart from the main mode is _Sweat Mode_. Other unique modes includes; _Simon Says Mode_ , _Mashups_ , _Last One Standing_ , _Strike A Pose_ , _Medleys_ , _Non-Stop Shuffle_ , _Dance Quests (JD4)_ and _Puppet Master_ . In JD2014 and JD2015 (and onwards on 7th Gen platforms), _Playlist_ exists but you were only able to select a certain amount of songs depending on the duration you want and is combined with Sweat Mode. Another thing that makes it unique is that JD2 to JD2015 had _downloadable content (DLC)_ as well as region and version exclusives since this era had a LOT of spin-offs. This was the era where Just Dance is trying to become well known practically everywhere for families and friends to dance to, regardless of age or experience. A lot of the OG Just Dance fans had their first games within these 7 games. *Modern/Unlimited Era* is the era of the franchise where we get a subscription based service alongside with a lot of new and experimental modes. The subscription based service called *Just Dance Unlimited* allowed you access to a bunch of the songs from the previous games called *legacy songs* alongside some *new exclusives* added to the catalog. This catalog was ever expanding in each game since and eventually the developers promoted it more in JD2019 with the introduction of _Seasons_ which added in a good calender of new content for the next 2 months for each one with a theme. Unlimited started with *150 songs* in the catalog in JD2016, but in JD2022... that number grew to over *700+ songs*. That large count is due to over 6 games worth of songs + legacies + spin-offs like ABBA and the Just Dance Kids games. The menu style for the 8th Gen consoles (and Switch) were consistent with a change in layout and format in JD2019 to JD2022. Unlimited started with The menus were designed to give you a more modern esthetic. It was also one of the more experimental eras with a lot of different modes that changes depending on game. There was a big emphasis on collecting Avatars and there were some that were exclusive to the _World Dance Floor_ which is Just Dance's Online Mode since JD2014. It is a lot more advanced than the 7th Gen versions. It had a lot of different activities in World Dance Floor such as Tournaments, Team VS, Song Choice and even Beat The Boss. World Dance Floor did however lose all but Tournaments in JD2021 and JD2022, but did add Rooms that you get placed into... by how good you were in that Online Mode. Other modes includes; _Dance Quest (JD2016 & 2017)_ , _Showtime (JD2016)_ , _World Video Challenge_ , _Co-Op/Gems Mode_ , _Just Dance Machine/Dance Lab_ , _Double Rumble (Switch)_ , _Non-Stop Shuffle_ , _Community Remix_ , and the infamous _Kids Mode_ . _Playlists_ and _Sweat Mode_ were also now essential modes for Just Dance games moving forward. In JD2016 and onwards, you gained the ability to make Custom Playlists and it can be played with or without Sweat Mode. How it functions is different in this era. JD2016 to JD2018 requires you to visit the mode separate from Just Dance Mode, while in JD2019 to JD2022, Playlists are given its own Tab and Sweat Mode got turned into a Toggle which can work for any song or playlist. A lot of the songs in the latter part of this era got more creative with different art styles on the maps and the coaches... most notably, the cartoony style. *Stream/Plus Era* is the era of the franchise that we are in starting with JD2023. It is called that due to the menu style and the system being more stylised to look just like a streaming service... which is what Just Dance has become now. With plenty of recommendations for songs and playlists to try based off your viewing experience... even down to your previous sessions. It is like the Netflix of Just Dance. That is where the "Stream" part of the name comes from that I named. Songs can now be filtered based off their tags. Every song has an intro card introduced in JD2022 and there is a big emphasis on lore with a _Story Playlist_ in each version of the game, and every new song in the game including names for Coaches in the Coach Select Screen. This is so that coaches reappearing feel more purposeful rather than just being forced. Since it is all streamline, games from this point onwards are now all digital only with physical copies now only contain a digital code. No more cartridge or disc needed. You are now also able to play any game that you owned from JD2023 and onwards in the one app/game instead of multiple apps/games. The "Plus" part is from the new subscription service called *Just Dance+* which is the new Unlimited and it started with *150 songs* in JD2023 too and grows each year it passes rather than each game since it is all on one app. Interesting thing, the Demo/Free Version gets you the app/game that you play JD2023 and onwards on, so you could practically play it for Free... but you wouldn't have much of a roster to play it. This era is relatively new with not a lot of modes in it due to the game being made on the new Unity engine instead of Just Dance's custom engine that the developers have grown making it better from JD1 to JD2022. It recently got _Challenge Mode_ which is this era's version of _World Video Challenge (JD2016 & 2017)_ minus the video, and _Workout Mode_ - which is just a rebranded _Sweat Mode_ which were added to promote JD2024... yes, we had a year without Sweat Mode. With it being a new engine, unfortunately at the time of this post, _Playlists_ didn't have the ability to allow you to make Custom Playlists with only premade ones being there instead... curated by the Just Dance Team. It behaves like it did since JD2019 with new ones added in each JD+ Season, but unlike before, your scores actually get combined and shown on a list. Making it really good as a way to challenge yourself to get Megastar on the entire Playlist and the scores are independent from your High Scores in the Song Mode. The most unique thing is the _Dancer Cards/Profiles_ and the HUD. You are able to customise a lot of things, from the Victory Effect to Aliases to even the Scoring Feedback Effects (a first for many). Unfortunately, you are unable to make more than 1 at this time, but the good thing is that there is actual _Progression_ to get these rewards thanks to a _Progression Tracker_ and _Challenges_ . You get XP by simply dancing and completing challenges and it contains a Prestige System and you get something for your Dancer Card at each level. The Avatars also received a glow up with heads now being replaced with full body and is done in a more realistic anime style + are shown on your HUD. While we don't have World Dance Floor, we do have _Groups_ which allows you to play with your friends locally or online regardless of where your friend is... as long as your friend adds your Ubisoft Profile to their list thanks to the built in new _Friends List_ . Max is 6 players in one group as always - including the host that picks the songs.

Just Dance 4 may not be the first to have Extreme Versions (since JD3 had one for Barbara Streisand), but it did make those alts more popular as there was Good Feeling, Run the Show, What Makes You Beautiful, and Wild Wild West (Part of Me also got the Extreme difficulty, but only in JD4), and if not for Extremes, the franchise could have been way too basic.

and this truly is a party game! the choreos are simple but fun, i played with my friends recently and even though they dont play just dance as much, they all did great scorings and had fun.. and also i played on the X360 and i didnt remember it was so fun!! like, everyone is free and the autodance is so funny... it's a pity microsoft killed kinect, for these types of games was goat controllers imo !
