With reference to the regimental crests, they were removed in the late 70s (before the nose was plated over) leaving the backing plate and nameplate in place, in the early 80s the nameplates and backing plates were removed leaving a plain panel, then in the mid/ late 80s Tinsley depot painted on the previous names and applied their TI crest above it,. so as received the loco is correct for the mid/late 80s, but if you fit the backing plate and nameplate it is correct for the late 70s/early 80s, which I think is excellent attention to detail by Bachmann. Also it would only have 1 tail light lit as they were controlled by a 3 position switch, left, off and right so having both lit (when running light loco) is wrong and is something most manufacturers sadly get wrong. Oh, just for added nerdness, the roof on 45120 (the previous release) is wrong at the non radiator end as it represents a steam heat fitted loco and 45120 is actually a ETH fitted loco meaning it should have a plain roof, Hope that helps.

This model doesn't interest me, however, I always watch the review of models on this channel because they are high quality and educational. Thanks for all the hard work you put into the videos.

The "Crest" is the Tinsley "Crest", not the crest of the regiment, so I would assume you have the loco modelled in both forms - original and TI

I got this model when it originally came out with the flat front and simple marker lights. Adds variety but my least favourite Peak cab front. However the pulling power is up there with the best. After Hattons 66, Hornby 60, 67, Dapol 68 this Bachmann 45 and the similarly chassis 40 are really good. Be interesting if Heljan can do better. The "missing" crest is not a factory error. Peaks ran without crests for a time as internet photos will show. I bought a different Peak recently with a crest also missing so I researched the matter. Its deliberate.

Awaiting the immanent arrival of Bachmann’s Peak Class 45/0 45041 “Royal Tank Regiment” DCC Sound (Factory Fitted) from Rainbow Railway’s of Linlithgow, West Lothian. Should be interesting to compare to your Review. Model the Swanage Steam Railway is Preservation, and this locomotive appeared at one of their recent Diesel Galas. Sadly missed this years as mother was very poorly, but now on the road to recovery 🙂.

I have bought 2 of these one 45040 with sound and 45049 without reasonable price and reasonable level of robustness verses detail for me. 40 doesn't have the badge on the loco or the etched plates, 49 does have the badge on the loco and etched plates which I presume is correct for the period. There is some improved detail over older versions of the model the grille panel at the front now correctly shows hinges and latches which the earlier versions don't. The sound version doesn't have the fan fitted as the speaker is fitted there instead, but the fan is included in the accessory park I don't how easy it is to fit the fan over the speaker as I haven't looked yet, or how much it would affect the sound. I got the sound version £200 which seems a bargain compared to some other sound fitted models. not being able to turn the tail lights off individually is annoying but still, the marker lights are also too bright they are more like headlight's I was going to wait for the Heljen version but overall these are perfect for the era I am modelling as well as being reasonably priced.

What a coincidence, I just got my class 45 'royal tank regiment' yesterday as well 😅 Mine has a crest printed onto the etched plate so I don't know if they just forgot on your example or its just not done across the entire royal fusilier type 45's but there is one on my Royal Tank Regiment No paint bleed on mine. However when running on dc when going in one direction the opposing lights will flicker for example the red lights will flicker even when going forwards. It became less noticeable after running in and at lower speeds. Plus the front lights are more like a bright white rather than a warm white. The fan isn't motorised but is free to turn if anyone was unsure whether it was fixed in place or not.

Those roof vents will be there they isolated the boilers - hence the steps covered on the side. This is the sort of thing they did with the 31/4, 47s etc

I'm not sure Jen... You're looking rather... Peaky today... 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃❤️😁 In all seriousness, credit where it's due - £135 DCC ready, working lights and a reasonably high level of detail on a large Cobo diesel? That's actually very well priced, £212 sound fitted shouldn't be sniffed at either, all minor faults aside. The main focus should always be this: The three wells... 1) Does it run well? 2) Does it look well? 3) is it priced well? I'd say yes to all 3 for my initial thoughts.... Good show!

Good review, Jen. But strange about the etched brass plates being blank! Not one of my favourite locos because as you say, the gap between the bogies and body.

It s a shame that quality control foibles should detract from such a lovely and capable loco, whether a production problem or failure to correct your experience. But ut's your job to call them as you see them, and we appreciate it. The lack of features for that 21-pin connector is disappointing. Thanks for sharing! It is a handsome beast.

Hornby Hater’s take note! Great video Jenny! Seems a shame that Bachmann didn’t make this a more inspiring model for the price and the issues with the name plates and bleed over are, disappointing to say the least, as you so rightly pointed out. Still it will sell well, as enthusiasts will have to add it to their fleets! I’d love to see one of the other manufacturers have a go at this model, but with the knowledge that this would increase the price. Would I buy one? Yes I would!
