@dv8322 Nowhere close to surpassing Hendrix. EVH was awesome, don't get me wrong, and he innovated in amp hardware, guitar hardware, and technique, but a lot of his work was documented while the work Hendrix, Mayer and Kramer wasn't. EVH is right up there with Hendrix, but surpassing, that is a hard sell.

Some items are on the pricey side like the Funky Vibe, but being a fan of Hendrix and "THE SOUND", I can totally justify the price. I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. Hey so the BoG fuzz and Woodstock Fuzz aren’t the same thing with the earlier variations of Roger’s Fuzzes we’re the Axis using 2 transistors but in a PNP & NPN configuration, later on I understand it went to a 3 transistor circuit which had considerably more output. Roger Mayer derived this circuit from the Helios mic preamp console. Further developments from this circuit topology would result in the Octavio. Jimi was using it for quite some time but the last appearance of it in his rig was at those Fillmore East shows. On the Cry of Love tour up until his death he had stock Silicon Fuzz Faces, which of course you can hear the wild oscilliation when used with a wah and the radio signals being picked up. It's likely the case he used those Fuzzes as they'd have probably been straight off the shelf and Roger was on to other things and working mostly with other musicians by 1970 so perhaps Jimi didn't want to risk bringing the BoG fuzz and Octavio on a European tour. The Woodstock fuzz however remains under speculation, it is reputed to have been developed by Dave Weyer of West Coast Amp Co. It’s 3-transistor all PNP fuzz that is always on and features 2-gain stages. To my ears it sounds absolutely spot on.
@totc61969 ай бұрын
Great info any way we could get a schematic of the Woodstock variation ?
@3rdtonefromthesun9 ай бұрын
@@totc6196 Well there’s further to the story than it seems… There has been a recent emergence of a ‘West Coast Fuzz’ which uses Germanium transistors… The circuit was developed by Dave Weyer, it is not similar to the Dunlop BoG fuzz that Dunlop as that unit uses silicon transistors with the PNP/NPN/PNP setup. Either way the WCF is used by the likes of Randy Hansen and Eric Julijan.

@@dude_crush_ Thank you for the advice and encouragement. In 2008 I cut 3 fingers on my fret hand in an accident, and on my index finger I severed a tendon, so I lost movement control of the first segment of my index finger, but I really couldn't play anymore due to the pain and loss of strength in my fret hand, which sucked because I had just been playing long enough (1-2 years) were playing wasn't laborious, and I had built up my callouses on my fret hand. I started lock picking/locksport a few years ago, and that built up the strength in my fret hand and the pain was pretty much gone, so come summer of 2022 I could start playing again. I took a year and played nothing but Hendrix's Purple Haze, which is my favorite song, both of Hendrix's and all-time of any song. I almost have the solo down, I have been learning that for a few weeks. But playing Purple Haze continuously for a year turned my playing from choppy, phrase-by-phrase playing, to smooth, actually sound like a sound and is musical, so I am very happy right now. Also for my 50th birthday, my family got me a Boss Katana Air, which was awesome, since I am a Boss/Roland fanboi.

@dude_crush_11 ай бұрын
If you want to nail the sound of the songs he used a Uni-Vibe in like Machine Gun and Izabella then yes. He used the Uni-Vibe on later recordings that were released after his death. But really, what is necessary is a Wah, a Fuzz Face, and an amp with EL34 Power Section. For me the 6L6 power section doesn't cut it. It's too thin sounding for me. The EL34 gives a nice bottom end in my honest opinion.

@dude_crush_11 ай бұрын
I never said he did, that's just the way I did it. Marshalls are actually pretty clean amps, but Jimi ran them so hot that he got natural distortion by Overdriving the Poweramps from it being so loud. I had the Gain and Volume at Max, while running the Power at 5 watts. If I ran my amp at 50 watts, I'd achieve the same natural distortion result, but I didn't feel like blowing out my ears lmao.
