The Pelton Arms features in a scene in the film The List of Adrian Messinger (1962) starring George C Scott and Kirk Douglas, a crime thriller. The pub and its stained glass is very recognisable and no name change. The east Greenwich area then was a working dock and the dockers are shown drinking there - no gentrification then. You can also see how close the Thames is, where one character is finished off. Worth checking out.

These modern builings are fecking crap. People don't realise what we are losing. Here you have a nice pub attached to the decent terraced housing. People would have got home, had a wash and gone to the pub. People would have looked for relatives in the pub. Alcohol smoothed the social order. I don't think people fully realise how terrible the future we face is.

Couldn't agree with you more. The Internet has disrupted if not replaced family and communal life.
