The way Vic was introduced in the series is a reference to Jason Todd, the second Robin, who was adopted by Batman as a student after being caught stealing the tyres from the Batmobile. Vic is the Penguin's sidekick. The house where Oz lives is called Burgess, named after actor Burguess Meredith, who played the Penguin in the 60s Batman series and film.

I feel like the “isn’t it better when you mix the flavors?” line is also symbolism for Vic and Os’ friendship

Always bear in mind, the Penguin is a Villain. Not a Hero; Not even an Anti-Hero; A Villain. Never forget that.

Not necessarily. There are tons of differences in storyline between each DC universe. We shouldn’t really assume anything from past universes cross- over into Reeves universe. They certainly seem to be trying to humanize him and build an anti-hero narrative.

@@tee4222 That isn't an anti-hero narrative. He doesn't kill for anything more than his own greed. I understand the character and his motivation is believable based on his life experience, but he isn't even close to an anti-hero.

@@Stkdraco yes. That’s clearly what they were doing. That they revealed his true nature doesn’t change the fact that they built him up as an anti-hero for the sake of the show. It was necessary for the audience to be invested in his character.

This show is darker than the Batman. We saw a teenager get popped lol we’re just gonna get to see Gotham during the day and night. The Batman was basically all at night so it seems darker, but I can bet the content in this show is gonna be way darker and violent.

Well the movie is pg13 and this show is R so ya it’s gonna be more violent. Would love to see an R rated Batman movie though. I feel like the Matt Reeves universe is perfect for it

Sure but stop acting like The Batman isn’t that dark. Riddler injected the commissioner with rat poison and fed his face to rats. Batman was breaking arms and pounding faces into the concrete.

It’s still “Cobblepot” Alberto just said “cobs” just because maybe to belittle him or he was just too lazy to say the full name, but his name is still “Cobblepot”

They already confirmed they changed his name to ground the character a little more. I don't like the change but its not the end of the world.

You NEED to see the 5 season show GOTHAM, it is a epic prequel to the Batman saga, and it deals very heavily with the Penguin's Oragins, including his relationship with his Mother.

The HBO TV 📺 show appears to be thematically and tonally more grimdark than The Batman movie 🎬 . It's more grounded in a hyper-real world were these classic comics characters would plausibly co-exist from Batman to his legendary rogues gallery.
