Cobblepot changing the name makes sense. He doesn’t have a wealthy lineage like the other counterparts or from a British/Posh background . But more an Italian American mobster, who never had wealth or privilege. I don’t think anything about his name change makes it objectively bad in any way

The best thing about this show is how they actually commit to making Penguin a villain and as irredeemable as possible. This will make Batman's beating of him feel all the more satisfying. You see, Sony, this is how you do a good villain-focused project! Oz is a textbook delusional pathological liar and narcissist, and the lengths he went to believing his own lies and finally rising as the kingpin of Gotham show how he truly is a monster. No matter how much we think there's something redeeming about him, just like Victor, we hope there's something good we can believe about Ozwald Cobb(lepot)... but nope! No matter how we try to look at it, *the Penguin is rotten to the core* . Colin Farrell, Cristin Milioti, Deirdre O'Connell, and Rhenzy Feliz all deserve Emmys for giving such phenomenal performances. 10/10 This show is up there with Daredevil as arguably the *BEST COMIC BOOK SHOW!!!* 🐧☂🎩🧐🚬
@themadtitan7603Күн бұрын
Exactly! This is how pure evil villains should be done. Nuanced while still fully painting them as absolutely vile & despicable supervillains. In superhero-related media it feels like they're either generic plot devices who're evil just for plot's sake or they have to fall back the sympathetic, justified antagonist to make nuanced. This does the former properly & if there's more of this characterization in future comic-book media, then I want all the unabashedly evil villains that we can get. It's also how to properly do a supervillain project that's a character study of an evil person who turns into a supervillain not an anti-hero or broken, misunderstood soul. Seeing the Bat-Signal now has never been as satisfying as it's here imo. If future villain led movies follow in its footsteps, then we're maybe in for an exciting & refreshing subgenre within comic-book projects where the protagonists are truly villains & the heroes are the antagonists.

The Penguin is worse than GTA protagonists combined. Vic went to hell for him, and was sent there by him. Hope he saves him a seat. Rhenzy Feliz with the best on screen stutter, he had a stutter coach who had an actual stutter. Seriously, all the main characters were fantastic. Deirdre O'Connell did a deep dive on youtube watching vids of people dealing with her condition. Cristin Milioti and Colin Farrell, unstoppable force meets immovable object. Even minor characters like Eve and Link. Just class all around. I never thought Daredevil season 1 and 3 would be taken off my top spot, but here we are.

I really love the show and how it reinforced that Penguin is not at all a misunderstood character. He's a vile monster. The only thing I would say didn't work for me is the character of Dr Julian Rush played by Theo Rossi. I didn't feel like the character was ultimately terribly necessary and often felt like he was there for the sake of being there. I just found him extremely uninteresting. Also I think this might be a me thing, but I personally was actually hoping that Sofia would actually die in the end. That's because I'm honestly extremely exhausted of the Falcone family constantly being adapted in Batman media as opposed to actual Batman characters. The Falcones were always in the comics just a generic crime family from the olden days of Gotham that were there to show Batman transition from fighting regular gangsters to actual supervillains and yet we keep revisiting them. To me they are just placeholders for the real villains.
@themadtitan7603Күн бұрын
I didn't care for Julian Rush either & I thought he felt like a nothing character that I kept waiting for them to do something bigger with him or reveal as a bigger villain. The Scarecrow theories each help didn't help as I didn't see anything him to be that character or any larger-than-life memorable villain. I didn't dislike him & thought he served his role fine, but rather how much he featured despite being a bland character I felt neutral about. I'd prefer he only appeared in Eps 2 & 4 to establish how Sofia knows him & that they're still in touch & later in the last two episodes to use the red light therapy on Francis. Or ideally, it'd be Johnathan Crane from the start & he'd be written very differently, maybe even played by a different character. On the other hand, I don't quite agree about the Falcones. From what I've seen they do tend to be used in adaptations as just that, mobsters in Batman's early years which is the case in The Batman & The Penguin. I'm not a fan of when they're still shown as an influence in later year like in The Flash, though. Besides, in The Long Halloween & Dark Victory, particularly in Sofia & Alberto's case they were the central Holiday killer & Hangman - so I feel they had more to contribute than just the crime family from those handful of Batman stories.
@James-ev6dkКүн бұрын
I'm glad somebody said it. I've felt this way about the Falcone's for years. However, I'm bout to contradict myself here, I actually liked the Carmine Falcone performance in the Batman and the extent of the hold he had on the city and I freakin *LOVED* Sofia and getting to know the family then experiencing her kill them all cos I hated how they treated her. I'm glad she survived and I'd like to see more of her and hope they continue to develop her in natural and interesting ways. I do agree that Julian was a bit lame tho. There're internet rumours going around that he might turn out to be the Scarecrow which I hope to heaven are not true!
@themadtitan760317 сағат бұрын
@@James-ev6dk I thought they fit here & The Batman as prominent antagonists both so far has been inspired by The Long Halloween which make a point to have them be the kings of Gotham during Batman's early years. It'd be interesting now following their demise, to watch them play out the transition from the mob to costumed freaks imo. They build out their own interesting version of Sofia Falcone & I'm looking forward to seeing more of her. Especially how she interactions & maybe finds healing with her half-sister, Selina Kyle. And yes, I hope Julian isn't Scarecrow because he has a bland personality imo & I don't quite get the sense of cold, calculated, but thinly veiled lunacy that I'd picture of the character or any larger than life aspect to the performance.

Batman works best when grounded, historically proven. Comics can have him in fantastical moments, but live action him against someone like clayface would take me out of the world. He’s a man in a suit, not Ironman, or juiced up Cap. Just a man…standing next to the Flash belittles his purpose. Unpopular opinion, but I hope his media stays grounded live action 🤷🏾♂️
