You have proven the point why they stopped making them. I would have bought one once and stopped when I found out they couldn't be mended or cleaned. I'm tinkering with Staedtler tech pens right now. The design isn't to good and the cartridges are a bit small but the Staedtler does a good job and are easy to clean. Not that I have shares in Staedtler 😃 Thx for showing the Pentel tech pens.

I do like how the Staedtler's are designed to be pulled apart. They even have a inbuilt tool for it in the base of the barrel

Sadly the same became of Rotring. Now only produced in Japan at a quality lower than the ones I use made in 1980's Germany.

Sad. I think they know that quality is no longer required as much. Not sure how many professional drafters are still using them. 3 maybe?

Very similar to the german made EROGRAPH, common in Europe in the '80s. Especially the cartridge thingy. Cool pens for sure.

are any technical pens worth fiddling around with? i got hand-me-down rotrings, and ive never had success with them. a house move and decade later ive lost the ink bottle and piece that twists the top open for servicing. i could just stick to dip pens.

If you have something that works just sick with it. Don't let me distract you with overly complicated tools that have no affect on the end result. I mean I do like the technical pens but they're more like a bad drug.

If you don't care about your art being waterproof, an isograph filled with Pilot drawing ink is an absolute dream to work with. The pilot ink is usually used for dip pens, but it works perfectly fine and flows really well out of tech pens. Not to mention, since it's water soluble, it'll clean up a LOT easier than the Rotring ink, and I have yet to find a paper it bleeds or feathers on. Even if you've decided not to give tech pens a go, I'd still recommend it in your dip pen usage.
