In Hendersonville (30 minutes from Asheville) we haven't had showers in 8 days. No power no water no functioning toilet. Unreliable cell service I'm past anger and on to depression. I live in NC, about three hours from the affected areas. My church family and I arrived on Sunday, climbed over debris, and through feet of mud carrying backpacks filled with supplies. There was NO "federal government" person to be found. Not ONE. It was exactly like Patera said, it was townspeople, family, and churches from NC, Tennessee, and even South Carolina. We came home today, and still never saw or spoke with any member of a "federal agency". It has been a WEEK since this occurred. There is still no water, very little power, and spotty cell service. I am still dumbstruck and the level of abandonment, just speechless. Thank you for every dotation or item sent, I promise you, every family I worked with was in tears, grateful beyond words. VOTE,VOTE,VOTE 💜🙏

m a nurse practitioner and live in Spruce Pine. A small town of 2500 half way between Asheville and Boone. We have had no power, water, electricity or internet for 9 days now. FEMA is just now decending into our town. Folk, I want you to know we called Samaritan's Purse on Monday for urgent help with our skilled nursing center (Staff having to go to nearby creek to get water to flush toilets). Samaritan's Purse had not one, but TWO helicopters on the ground Tuesday morning with medical supplies, water, and generator. FEMA (yawn) started showing up yesterday. Please, if you consider donating, donate to Samaritan's Purse. Government may not show up, but Samaritan's Purse does.

It is definitely your neighbors and your community that come together when disaster hits. I'm in Oregon and in July, we had massive fires all over the place. My place almost burned down but neighbors came with their bulldozers and drew fire break lines and that was what saved my house and many neighbors too. A huge tree fell on the house where my grandkids were My two youngest were saved by the recliner they were sitting in. 1 broken back One broken collar bone and arm One was in his bedroom upstairs Was pinned under the tree Everyone was able to walk away from the house 23 tress on the corner lot. The father said He now believes that divine intervention if God himself. When you shared your dream about the children I knew what was going to happen. I just didn't know how it would come about. Well now I know Looting happened Between 10 pm - 6 am. Everyone ordered to stay inside. I think the curfew is still in place for the young ones under 18 or students. Since then things are under control, so to speak Water and food has found it's way to residents. Outer areas churches stepped up. God bless you and thank you for your endless efforts

I am here in WNC in the Fairview area southeast of downtown by about 10-15 minutes. I can tell you that the rescue is ongoing. The Chinooks are flying overhead regularly. We are just outside of Bat Cave, Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. There are so many roads that are washed out. People are stranded and missing. We are not off of our rockers - we who are like minded - know the truth. Yes, you are correct about Asheville - the slogan is “Stay Weird Asheville “. Our mental states are overwhelmed. Praying is a good, faith is free. I am all over the place mentally. There are areas that will never be the same. No power, no well water (no power), limited cell, no municipal water - the lines were decimated and roads to lines are literally gone, limited connectivity, etc. prepping is what has kept us in a good position for now. Please, unless you are coming in to drop donations - stay away - we aren’t here for selfies and stories. The leaves will be here next year. There are so many workers and rescue vehicles everywhere and need access. Thank you God, we are safe, our animals are safe, our home is safe.

I’m here in Canton, NC. Told my husband when Maui happened, this could happen to us! I was blessed to be prepared!
