I'm telling you son ... the man is a walking, talking, fish hunting machine ... he explains more about fishing in 20 minutes than I've forgotten in a lifetime ... a living museum of bass fishing's last 50 years and a legend to guide the next 50. It is simply amazing. The best part is the love of the craft. You see many stars from major sports achieving trophies and honors and then walking away due to boredom or opportunities for more money. Not Roland! Here he is, still in his prime, still dealing and creating, still tinkering with a half dozen boats, still loving fishing at every level, and best of all now making great youtube videos that make us feel like we're in his backyard. If you don't like this stuff there is something wrong. Roland, these are better than any made for TV video you ever did. I know it's a lot of work and you probably aren't getting paid as much ... but we sure do appreciate the effort you're putting in (especially hauling all of those boats out today for the grand tour)! Thank you.

I just found Roland a few days ago and already love him! What a great guy. I don't know if he makes his own videos and does the online marketing/KZbin thing (or if he has help,) but with a little bit of tweaking the basics, he'd get hundreds of thousands of views per video. (I'm thinking longer descriptions, better linking, gear lists and affiliate programs, playlists and info cards, etc) Nothing too flashy because that's not his style. I'm not much of a fisherman, but I could watch Roland Martin all day; he seems so nice and enthusiastic!!! I'd watch him talk about anything!😁👍👌

Roland... Jimmy... Hank and Bill... you gentlemen are the godfathers of the Bass fishing industry. For reasons just like what you have presented here. Forever the teachers / professors and you cover and show every part of the spectrum. At your level you can sit in a fully equipped 70k bassboat and never look back. Yet you continue to fish and show everyone how much you can enjoy fishing... in a basic affordable and functional Jon boat or canoe. Here you gentlemen have reached the pinnacle of your career and profession... I have watched you since your beginning... and you have not forgotten what got you there... the love of fishing. Just get out and fish. Be it from a 70k fully rigged Bassboat or a homemade fully functional canoe. I hope all the up and coming fishermen in the sport / industry today. Listen and learn from you gentlemen. Thank you Mr. Martin for all you have and continue to do for us fishermen and the sport / industry.

Mr. Martin, I'm a senior enlisted Army soldier and it would be a dream come true if I could come fishing with you even for an hour.... when I was a little guy I used to watch you and Bill Dance on ESPN in the early 90's. I still play your entro song right before I go on the water. I know it's a long shot but if there was any way that you would or could give a Army Vet a fishing lesson by a legend that would be just excellent. Anyways I know it probably wouldn't happen but at least a man can dream.

When I was growing up I always wanted to fish with Jason Lucas, angling editor of Sports Afield Magazine. I did fish with Homer Circle, Jason's replacement as editor so I asked Homer to set up a fishing trip with me and Jason. Which he did but Jason was suffering from lung cancer, he was a heavy smoker, and just about the time I was to go fishing with Jason, he passed away! I don't smoke!

Years ago I launched my Triton at Clear Lake for a club tournament. I had no less than $50k in equipment including the boat. I had a full assortment of tackle including some $20 jerk baits, plastics and some very expensive swim baits. As I launched I observed an elderly heavy set, black lady fishing off the dock. She has a small tackle box a lawn chair and a 4500 spinning real and an old fiberglass rod. She was throwing a white crappie jig. I came back in a 3:00 with around 14 lbs. which is nothing for Clear Lake. I asked the lady if I could see her stringer. She had a nice limit of bass that I estimate went about 22lbs. She told me she caught them all off the dock on the white crappie jig. Sitting in her lawn chair. At that point in my life I realized I had been a victim of the bass fishing industrial complex. Lol!! Thanks for your videos, much enjoyed!

Hey Roland Martin! My dad, Jimmy Fleming, fished with you at Bill Jones Fish Camp and the gang on the Diversion Canal of Santee Cooper many years back in the 1970's! I remember some of those characters to this day. Sarge, Odel, and Patsy(one of the cooks). We used to chunk floating Rapalas at night in the cuts of the canal when they were "pulling water" and caught some nice "Rockfish"(Striped Bass of Course). I'm living in Charleston--Frank

What a presentation! I can’t say it enough, there are very few professionals that would take the time to do this and be so down to earth. We often get caught up in thinking our gear or setup isn’t good enough or fancy enough..I was in my late 30s before I finally appreciated getting out there as often as possible is where it’s at and it doesn’t take the most expensive toys to accomplish that. I’ve enjoyed and been blessed with many good days on the water and in the woods with regular joe equipment and fairly limited funds and I wouldn’t take a minute of it back. Thank you Mr. Martin for taking the time to make these videos and continuing to inspire us with your passion!

I just watched the perfect boat video and I'm glad I did. As a young man I would watch the BASS tournaments on TV Saturday's learning the skills that make me a good fisherman. I eventually saved enough to buy a scanoe (a canoe with a flat back and wider beam) and did some customization. Recently I've acquired other boats I'm upgrading to fit my fishing needs. After meeting and taking a photo with Roland in Harrisburg, Pa. I learned about this media platform and here I am still learning from legends that I'm on the right tract in my boat purchases. Thanks for being such a warm and welcoming man and the continuation of teaching me the skills of fishing like a pro. It was truly an honor to talk with you and I'll cherish the experience. I look forward to seeing you in the future. An endearing fan, Willie Harmon

Now this was a cool video Roland. You are obviously a very wealthy man because of your talent and successes and you have boats that are old and faded and home made upgraded. I love it! And thanks for that info about how the pros are often lended those $70,000 boats. So many people think they need $70,000 boats to compete in tournements and I cant tell you how many guys that I see buy them just to go fishing in that dont even fish in tournements. Hey, if thats what ya want then go for it but if you think you need it because the pros use them then think again. Thanks for the info and your honesty Roland! And thank you again for your service in the military for our great nation! God bless you!

I fished out a canoe I bought of a friend for $75 for years. Now I'm fishing out of a 1973 center console boat with a 50 HP Johnson I bought with money I made selling firewood one winter. I've made a bunch of modifications to it. Seriously people, Roland is right. Mod your boat to suit your needs. The point is just because you can't afford the latest and greatest doesn't mean you shouldn't get what you can afford and go fishing. I've caught plenty of fish out of both of those boats. Get out there, explore new water, and have fun.

Excellent advice, Roland. I started running my dad's Jon boat when I was about 4. Like you, we had airboats, a canoe, a Jon boat, and others. My dad put me in the boat with him to fish and duck hunt, or gig frogs when I was only a week old. Certainly, I had no clue at first, but as I grew up he always took me under his wing to teach me the ins and outs of fishing and hunting, and it was a constant in my life growing up until I got to the point where I could do things in the boat on my own. I didn't go far but the boat had a 3 1/2 hp Johnson that allowed me to expand my horizons and go explore and learn. Today I have a kayak, a canoe, a GheeNoe, a sailboat, and two flats boats that pretty much allow me to go most places I love to fish. My brother has my dad's Jon boat we grew up with and my dad's 1945 Grumman canoe. I have no air boat but I'm looking at Jon boats again just to simplify some of my fishing, and your points are all well-taken. Enjoyed the video. Keep it up, my friend.
