The Alpina B8 is based on the M850i Gran Coupe but offers the power of an M8 Gran Coupe or BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe. That makes this new BMW Alpina the perfect luxury sports car. The BMW Alpina B8 Gran Coupe is powered by an Alpina tuned 4.4L Twin-Turbo V8 making 612 horsepower which helps it go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds. I would definitely get an Alpina B8 over the M8 Competition. Now if I was cheap, I would settle for the M850i, which is a perfectly fine car to have. The competition for the B8 (IMHO) is the Mercedes AMG GT 63S, (maybe) the Audi S8 or S7, Porsche Panamera Executive, and Bentley Continental GT (on the high end). Good review by the way. Alpina B8 is a perfect business-suit for high performance over a 10 hour drive. BMW M8 Competition is a noisy and roaring version for those who never drive a long distance or never care about neighbors or others. Don't get me wrong: The M8 is a great car - but Sound doesn't mean FAST.

Alpina! The M8 Comp is too firm for a daily driver. I also like the Alpina styling in the rear better. This is my favorite 4 door car in production right now. Nothing else is close.

In Germany the Alpine B8 is fitted with black paddles in cnc milled alumina steel. They look mega perfekt!!! The B8 is a Sportswear in a business-suit and fits to all of my needs: Sport, City, Racing and driving the kids to school. In Germany we have 621hp (my version is tested with 639 HP), because of different emission-rates in our country. I installed me a Speedmeasurement-Device to my iPhone. As by today the car has 2.000 KM (1.250 mls) and is was the first time I performed a "Kickdown" with the Gaspaddel from a standing start.: 3,7s and 52 Meters Distance (150 ft) from 0 to 100 (62,5 mls/h) without any Launch-Control and the road-surface was slightly damp. Difference from 100 KM/h (62,5 mls/h) to 200 KM/h (125 mls/h) is 7,1s. When I reach 3.000 KM at all i test the Launch-Control first time.

I think it’s too hard to compare between the b8 or the M8 , But in my opinion The M Emblem on any BMW car make it top of the line over The Alpina even if it cost more money to buy it

Thank you for covering the cruise control. Cruise control is a big convenience on highways, and the motion of a car is fundamental to a car, as in "auto" - "mobile". The cruise controls should perforce be on the steering wheel, under one''s thumb (ideally, on the right, but left is acceptable, too). I do not understand why some manufacturers (like Porsche? Toyota?) put telephone and sound system buttons on the wheel, then subordinate the cruise controls to them! I have a phone in my office, and a sound system in my home. When I'm on the road, in traffic with pedestrians omnipresent, or on the freeway with 16-wheelers, I want to hear what's going on around me - not my girlfriend or an opera!

Alpina is not a tuning company, Alpina is registered as a vehicle manufacturer. For that reason the Alpina vehicles VIN/chassis number is not a BMW number but Alpina number. 😁

$40,000 for a front lip, a diffuser, an ugly spoiler, exhaust tips, better engine cooling, an ECU remap with warranty, a set of softer suspensions and a set of wheels over an M850i. I would say the price is reasonable if the M8 doesn’t exist.
