Fun fact:with the release of trials of PCB and alice as the 3 boss,because in trials there were only 3 bosses,there were thoughts that this game might have connections to shinki and makai.but it turns out it was yuyuko and netherworld, although maybe ZUN also thought abot this game connection to MS,because there was no point to fight alice in PCB

i wish more touhou prototypes (not just trials) could be released by zun the early touhou 6 screenshot (one with the different title screen) intrigues me a lot and touhou 3 was stated to be very very different in development (it was said to be a sidescrolling shooter that moved horizontally) great video!!

As someone that has gotten into touhou and absolutely loves prototypes/unused things in general it's nice to see someone make a video about the PCB prototype. I didn't even know the prototype version even had a code haha, also i personally love the trial version of Doll Maker of Bucuresti more than the final version from what i listened to both of them. Very awesome video, subbing for more touhou videos.

Interesting Fact: Chen's stage prototype theme actually sounds closer to the midi version of the final game(2 keys deeper), however it does not happen on Alice Stage theme, the prototype wav sounds in a higher key, in the midi is more in line with the final version(im not sure if in the trial mode there was a midi sound option and it was diferent as the final version)

This video doesn't cover these but I'd like to add that the main game mechanic for PCB was completely different from the full release. One of many changes being that there's no cherry borders in the game at all, so you get no Border Bonuses or an extra bomb to use during a border. The Cherry Points only determined the score and have a limit of 400k on Lunatic, whereas in the final release there was no limit. Shottypes were also very different. From what I remember, ReimuB's unfocused shot was much wider but also generally weaker and MarisaA's shot power is extremely overpowered (except at 48 to 63) when you're moving unfocused. Most spells don't get much of a chance to do anything if you abuse this. In terms of patterns, most changed patterns are a bit less dense, but quite a few of them can also be exploited. That's because in at least the earliest trial version, bullets only gain a hitbox when they are grazable. This matters because most bullets don't become grazable until a split second after being shot. In the full release this is not the case.
