Just bought one, dark blue with white "parchment" leather. Fantastic vehicle, especially fun on Skyline on the California coast. Yes, the upshifts are fast and responsive. The car is exceptionally quiet at highway speed. The steering is precise on twisties and the acceleration and braking are both solid. There is no turbo from Mazda but the horsepower is 187 - enough for me. It is possible to patch the entertainment system software if you want to. I want my passenger to be able to work with the nav once we are underway so I'll probably patch it at some point. The cruise control is pretty futuristic to me. Drove back from work a week about just steering. The car accelerated and braked as required as cars moved in and out of my lane. The beginning of self-driving cars. :-) Very happy with my purchase.

@Forest awesome and very thorough review of the features, materials, etc.! You shot and described in a way I wish other reviewers would. The sun light gave you a hell of a time with glare and shadows! LOL … I’m looking forward to you driving the car and giving us your opinion on how it feels, responsiveness, engine/transmission feel, etc. And take your time on that as you did on this one. You have, by far, the best review of this car on KZbin, so kudos for that! I've never owned a Mazda (have been a Honda/Acura guy) and this CX-5 might make me switch brands. I have to test drive one for myself. Thanks for your time in producing this video!

Except for maybe styling, the CRV is bigger, yet lighter, much faster to 60, stops quicker, has more ground clearance, yet corners flat, faster in a slalom, yet gets better mpgs, and is about the same price, and predicted reliability/resale. A fully loaded grand touring cx-5 would be perfect and a major competitor to audi/bmw/mercedes if it came with the cx-9 2.5L turbo motor. There isn't enough to distinguish the base trim from the top trim in the cx-5.

It’s zippy and holds tight to the road while offering finishes that are downright sexy. This is not your average mid-size SUV. The stitching alone separates it from its competitors and the Bose sound system is on point. The tech is on par with any luxury vehicle I’ve driven in the past

Just checked this car out at the Houston auto show. Comfortable drivers area easy . Easy to get in and out and inside it's got a nice view out the front. There's no squatting or climbing to get in which awsome. My favorite part of this update is the rear AC vents they added. There's isn't many in stock in town yet to check out fully

Alano Alavrez Part of the problem is actually the Headrests. Like many new cars, they force your head forward. You could buy the flatter ones from a 6 or older cx.

I like this car - and I think Mazda builds some good cars, some of them are not only build in Japan, but they are build almost entirely with PARTS made in Japan, which is quite rare these days. One think I don't care much is these cars have little space for tall 6ft drivers at the pedals. So beware if you are rather tall guy/lady

Great review!I have a current generation CX-5 and I just love it, great fuel economy, reliability, drive feeling, and I love that comes with NO CVT! In Chile we get i-stop system, which on my city´s traffic conditions of stop and going, its of great help on fuel economy. I do, however, complain about a small detail : NO plastic footrest on the dead pedal like the Mazda 6. I ve seen most of the 2017 CX-5 videos and it seems that Mazda is all concerned about interior design, but they havent paid attention to that detail. Other than that, I will definitely buy this new generation in a couple of years when Mazda presents the CX-5´s "mid-cycle refresh" Greetings from Chile

As a 6' driver, do you have to remove the rear seat headrest to allow the rear seat to lay flat? Also, does the dash show which tire may need air or a general notice regardless of tire. Thanks for the great review. The best I've seen.

Looks really awesome. Mazda did a great job on the new CX-5. I wish it had factory installed parking sensors in the rear and front and a bit more thigh support, but other than that it looks great. Also, passenger seat lumbar would have been nice too. I love it though

This was a great review. Very detailed. What is the floorboard rest area like in the driver's position with the left foot? Is it carpeted? Or more substantial rubber padding? In the 2016 version, it's a pretty flimsy carpet in the left foot rest area. Thanks again. I subscribed as well.

Great review. Just of note, I thought the bars were car lengths too, but they're actually dynamic distances based on speed - so they're more like 2-8 seconds off the bumper of the car you are following. I read this in the service manual. Again, nice work.

I’m shocked by the lack of rear leg room, the only thing that I can see would prevent me getting one. This seems like a high hatchback rather than an SUV, the kids do like their acres of legroom and those trays!
