this shows how I make my own version of the mini inferno. These are 100% water proof and 100% sure fire. The will burn for around 7-10 min. and will dry and ignite wet wood.

I made of these the other day. I used Zippo lighter fluid that the previous owners of my house left here The wax I used candles that I bought at good will for 25 cents. The cotton rounds I picked up at Dollar General for a buck. These things work amazing! Very nice flame ( 6 inches ) and I tested it when it was breezy no issues. I was kinda shocked when the breeze actually helped, by catching the rest of the round aflame. Was super easy to light and burn test was 13 min. Thank you for showing this Video.

Also, any kind of Cologne or perfume is also a great choice. I started building fire starter kits a few weeks ago and this is one of the easiest. While getting dressed one day, I came across a bottle of drugstore Cologne from a father's day gift from 20 years ago. Smelt terrible but couldn't find it in me to throw away (son was about 8). But, now that can be a life saving element. Tested it last night and the flash point is still great. Just a few drops in a pan and my ferro rod; one strike and BOOM!!!!!!! FIRE!!! Next step was to put a few drops on the cotton round, dip in wax, let dry and test. Works like a charm. Then, the next morning I came across this video and all confirmation completed. I had a great idea. Gonna build 100 more and share with the family and all the campers I know. Makes a great stocking stiffer gift too.

Haven't read all the comments but I used NorwegianBushcraft's method of adding lamp oil to the wax and it also works great. The wax seems a little softer, not much and you can really smell the lamp oil once you break it open. I'm gonna try your method next. Thanks for the info! I have found your channel to be full of good information. Keep up the good work.

I just made a bunch of these using the small square cotton pads. I used a tube of petroleum jelly to dispense a less than pea sized bead onto the middle of the pad. I then folded the pad and squeezed it in order to drive the vaseline into the fibers and then unfolded it for coating with canning wax. One coat - cool - repeat. Fluff up the center, and it's ready to light. Each one took me between 10 and 20 strikes to get it going. But once they are lit, they will give you a solid 7 minutes of burn time (most of it a very intense burn). Thanks for this Grierwolfe. You're videos are the best. They'll save me money and aggravation and, possibly, my life if I'm foolish or desperate enough to get myself into a "situation". P.S. Use a double boiler and heat the wax minimally. You can always reheat if necessary.

fantastic! as much as i love dave canterbury's channel, and half the products that he sells, i would much rather make these at home for so much less than paying $14 to have 6 mini infernos delivered to my door. thank you very much for sharing this information.

I have experimented a lot with these. One method I came up with is using empty toilet paper rolls. Stand them on end. Seal the exterior bottom to whatever you are use to protect your work surface. I use hot melt glue. Compact with sawdust, lint etc. Whatever is your choice of absorbent fuel. Then pour in melted wax (your individual mixed recipe). Let cool and you now have a length of fire starter that you can cut to any desired length providing an infinite range of burntime. I love 'em. They work great.

This is the first time I have seen these done by adding the accelerant to the pad them dip them. I have seen several vids, and what I tried, was adding a parrafin lamp oil to the melted wax and dipping. Those have worked great so far but I love trying different things, so I think I will give your method a try to see how I like it... never stop learning. Thanks for the vid!

Great video! You demonstrate the finished item too, so it's a proven item. One note to viewers. Please do not use an open flame near containers of flammable fluids! Eee-Yikes! One dribble of volatile liquid overlooked, or one puff of vapor, and it's "goodbye, home sweet home"! Cheers!

When you melt the wax start with pouring some water in your pot! Wax is lighter than water so it will stay on top as long as you don't stir it. The water will prevent the wax from reaching flash point and you don't need as much wax as you would otherwise. I learned this trick making candles.

can we come up with a cheap homemade firepaste with super common stuff that can compete with the commercial stuff? I got a few good ideas but I learn best by seeing it done. hands on learner lol. my initial idea was a composite of wax, vasilene, olive oil and either sawdust or ground charcoal as a binder and wicking agent. wax I think can be optional. main items I got ready access to is olive oil and vasilene and figure if it was possible to help it or basically make it the consistency of toothpaste, and still retain it's traits that make it a good fire starter, we got a winner. be an additional tool to keep in our mental toolbox

Trying to figure out how to do a big batch quickly. Maybe get a large baking sheet and squirt the lighter fluid on each round and then use some tongs to dip in wax? How does everyone else do it?
@punknhead237 жыл бұрын
Surprised you did not scorch the finish on your table top with just the tin foil between fire and table. Nice video. I use a dab of petroleum jelly in the center of pad before dunking in wax. Then just bend and tear the disc to the center point with all the fibers exposed before using firesteel. WOrks great. Can get cotton rounds 40 for .88¢ @ Wal-Mart.

Duct tape and strike anywhere matches dipped in wax work great also.

100 for a dollar at the dollar store, small can of petroleum jelly for 69 cts, couple of nearly expired candles melted down and you're in business. Made half of them with melted wax and the other fifty with petroleum jelly,stack and store them in an empty Pringles can...take as many as you need, leave the rest at home for next time. I use them all the time. You can even boil water and cook with them on the small esbitt stoves, just use one to start kindling, you can put it out and use it again,

if you frag a moth ball add it to the wax and leave it in for a couple of minuets when you burn your fuel the light Oder from the mothball will keep your campsite clear of flying bugs for a while (usually just enough time to cook & eat in peace)

@SanderPool7 жыл бұрын
Frenchie first rule of survival is being able to adapt and improvise, use what you have including knowledge. if you think these are too big then why not make small ones? cotton rounds come in different sizes and you can cut them too. the key of this video is to use a bit of accelerant before dipping in wax. I think it's a great trick.
