something i find funny is how people say its impossible to beat terraria without the wiki AFTER going and looking at the wiki, not realizing that 100% of what they read there is either not obligatory or you can notice/the game hints at it clearly. The first time I completed terraria, I didn't even know there was a wiki. I used some terrible weapons, and ignored classes completely fully by accident, but it was THE most fun I've ever had in a videogame. I built stuff, I endeared myself to the npcs, and completed the game in a way i was satisfied with. Terraria is also meant to be beaten at a slow pace, but since people love to spoil themselves with the wiki, usually they hurry to go objective through objective, instead of taking their time. They forget terraria is a sandbox game.
@SenzuMike6 ай бұрын
You do make a valid point, but at the same time, I did exactly what you did when I first played Terraria. That's why I used to disliked Terraria. It only when I returned to Terraria with the resources such as the wiki did I actually enjoy Terraria for the first time. You noted that Terraria is the type of game to be beaten at a slow pace, which I do agree with, however, that slow pacing isn't something that isn't something you compromise by looking at the Terraria wiki. For me, working towards a goal is a big part of what keeps video games fun for me, as well as being able to forging my own path just by exploring the world and coming across new abilities along the way. On the surface, Terraria seems like the perfect match for a player like me, but whenever I'd actually play Terraria, all I'd do is explore the world, get some cool items, and then stop playing the game due to sheer disinterest, sometimes even before I beat the Eye of Cthulu. With the wiki however, I'm actually given a tangible goal to achieve I simply wouldn't be given with vanilla Terraria, and I'm able to theorize what the next abilities should be in my arsenal. Yes, Terraria is a sandbox game, but not on the same level of a game like Minecraft, as Terraria is much more comparable to a Choose Your Own Adventure game. This isn't me trying to devalue or disagree with your argument, though what I am trying to claim is that playing Terraria as you did requires a very specific mindset, one that I'd wager many don't share.

"more content" is a confusing phrase. you see, while terraria does have more "content" (blocks, items, creatures, enemies, etc.) , what minecraft lacks in features, it provides in experience. building a kingdom, going on an adventure, getting your first pet, raiding a challenging structure, defeating a powerful mob. even the little things like completing your first house, protecting your village from a raid or a zombie invasion, getting your ideal armour and weapon set, collecting a rare item, etc. everyu little and big thing you do in minecraft is a (atleast semi-) unique experience, which just makes you feel really attached to your world and all the mobs living in it. so yes, terraria has"more content" but minecraft has more personal experiences and adventures..

I'm not besmirching anyone's opinions but do recommend you make a more in depth video showcasing all aspects of both games including building and late game. Late game is the time when terraria is the most fun and when your character really shines. Your statement in saying it isn't for casuals is most likely correct but you have to be patient to learn how to play the game. You also have to consider that terraria doesn't end after you beat the game and servers and building are a thing. Character optimizations can also provide many hours of more content. In my personal opinion coming from someone who has over 4k hours in each game terraria is a better game with the devs still adding absurd amounts of content in each update.

@@firesteve47In the video, I already explained Terraria's core gameplay mechanics through it's more basic features, as yes, while Terraria does get more complicated and gives you far more choice on how to approach the game as you keep going, it still relies on the fundamental aspects which make the early game so good. Me speedrunning Minecraft's Survival Mode is meant to illustrate the lack of content in Minecraft, and how it's focus is on other aspects of the game, meanwhile in Terraria, I only beat the first boss to show how it's focus is on progression, and how the game is much more thought out than Minecraft. I mean, at least in my view, Terraria is 'too complicated'. As I mentioned in this video, it's nearly impossible to play Terraria, at least in my experience, without a walkthrough since the world is so large and there's so much to do. You have to also keep in mind that not everyone had the privilege of growing up with video games, most aren't in the "gaming fandom" like we are, so design decisions we might intrinsically understand are ones that the majority may not. The thing about Minecraft's freedom is that it's kinda illusory. You can do anything you want, sure, but no matter what you want to do, you are forced to go trough the same resource gathering loop over and over again which gets old pretty fast. What's the point of you making your own end goal if 80% of the journey is the same no matter what? But in Terraria, you have so many different approaches to the challenges the game gives you. The usual path in the beginning is to mine, but you can totally get away by not doing it at all. You can progress with loot dropped by enemies, or even with stuff you can get by fishing. This in my opinion is true freedom, and it is something survival Minecraft lacks severely.

Creative mode, adventure maps, servers like Hypixel, if you wanna go there as well, mods which can completely transform your gaming experience. I stated within this video that Minecraft's survival mode is inferior to Terraria's, as it undoubtedly is. Beyond just the freedom aspect you brought up, Terraria also has better combat, progression, the ability to account for multiple types of player, and overall, limits it's scope as to not overwhelm the player with the sheer amount of options, or give so many that every option has numerous oversights. Trying to compare Minecraft and Terraria in this way is like saying that Super Mario Maker 2 is worse than Super Mario Bros. 3 because the campaign in Super Mario Maker 2 is worse. It just doesn't work that way. Sorry if this comment comes off as aggressive at all, I'm just tired of seeing the same few arguments again and again -_-
@VixYW6 ай бұрын
@@SenzuMike No, I get it. I was only talking about specifically the freedom you have in survival in particular. You can get past that barrier yourself if you're willing to go trough the hops to do so, but not everyone is. I mean, it kinda already have with villages, but those are arguably even more tedious than mining over and over. I think a big misconception people have with Terraria is thinking that the bosses are the main focus, while the main focus is actually growing stronger, exploring, building, and using cool weapons. The bosses are an extra addon to help enjoyment. There isn't really a set order to beat the bosses either, even in hardmode, with a lot of the bosses being purely optional. tldr; bosses arent the main focus of Terraria like people tend to believe, rather, building, exploring, and growing stronger is.

Yes Minecraft is 3d but I’d argue the biomes in Minecraft are kinda boring considering all they really do (for the most part) is give you new blocks where as terraria will give you biome specific drops and bosses. But terraria can’t give you the depth and different angles to have amazing builds, some people argue terraria has more building stuff but really big terraria builds kinda don’t look like much unless you actually built it yourself. In short if you wanna fight, explore and upgrade seamlessly with moments of adrenaline anger and triumph then play terraria. You say you need the wiki to play terraria but you need that for Minecraft too, sure you get the recipe book which helps but that’s it, like how would a new player know about the nether? Know about the wonder dragon, wither? If you watch videos of people playing Minecraft with zero prior knowledge, it’s painful to watch, and it really shows how little Minecraft tells you. Whereas yes terraria is more complex, but it also has a guide npc which while not super useful for most explains basic mechanics of the game, such as building houses, other npcs and heart crystals to name a few

Terraria has a much better gameplay experience and progression, on the other hand, minecraft has a better sandbox experience and allows more creativity with 3 dimentions and building You can find yourself spending more time in minecraft building Also relogic is 10x better then mojang, not only do they fully listen to their community, but they even have full mod support through the steam workshop Minecraft does have mod support in someway, but its only on bedrock, and its not really the same as the unsupported mods people make for java

I wish I could play Minecraft like it was my first time but when I start a new world the since of exploration doesn't last long where as when I start a new terraria world I still get that same feeling I did all those years ago. I think Terraria is better, it has way more content, way more bosses, Minecraft only has like, the dragon and wither and the wither is optional, Terraria has way more items, weapons, tools, armour, mobs, and ACCESSORIES! You can mention, “Oh but they added netherite” I hardly think it’s a necessity unless you’re doing PvP it’s basically useless and it’s a bit underwhelming. Not to mention, Minecraft’s updates are horrible, they hardly add anything, and when they do, nobody likes it. They have a mob vote, instead of just adding ALL OF THOSE THINGS which would be better, they only decide to add ONE. Minecraft’s updates are always taking forever, only to show up with hardly any content, the last GOOD update was probably back around caves and cliffs and the nether update, but with Terraria, it’s constantly being worked on and every update has added significant changes and improvements, and features. I feel like the only thing Minecraft has over Terraria is it being 3D but that’s only because of the type of game it is. I do enjoy Minecraft now and then, but it honestly gets really boring after a bit, but with Terraria I haven’t had that problem, Terraria has so much replayability, and that’s proven with the horrendous amount of hours some people have lol. That’s all I can think of for the moment if I think of anything else I might add it, but that’s basically my argument

"Creative mode, adventure maps, servers like Hypixel, if you wanna go there as well, mods which can completely transform your gaming experience. Sorry if this comment comes off as aggressive at all, I'm just tired of seeing the same few arguments again and again -_-" - A reply I made 5 days ago.

Hear me out. While the survival modes are pretty similar with many comparisons to be made, Minecraft is more of an engine *for* games while Terraria is a game in of itself. Think about it, in Minecraft, you have datapacks, massive servers with unique gamemodes, and hundreds of maps with different gimmicks to them (Skyblock, Droppers, Diversity, Confusing Cubes) that make you forget that Minecraft's default gamemode is survival. Terraria, while it *does* have Journey mode and a bunch of maps on the workshop, they are usually limited to the tools given by the game, which is to say, not much. (For example, you can't stop players from breaking the map with their starter equipment, you must ask them not to. You can't make unique trades for the NPCs, you must ask the player to limit themselves) Hell, just look at Terraria PVP and you will quickly realize that the equipment isn't very good at defeating other players. Come to think of it, it's like a quote from "Getting Over It" where the longer an obstacle was created during the developing process, the more it "solidified" to a point where if you wanted to change something in any way, you had to tear it all down with an excavator. Minecraft is malleable, you can shape it however you want. Terraria is firm, you can try to bend it a bit but you won't get far. But when you *do* look at the plain gameplay, they do have a lot of similarities. In Terraria, you depend on the guide NPC to teach you the basics, and figure out the rest by exploration such as killing a voodoo demon above lava by accident. In Minecraft, you might depend on the achievements list to give you a general idea of what you need / can do, you might stumble upon a ruined portal and decide to fix it up with some obsidian and use the flint and steel you found in a nearby chest. And besides, what says you *need* to get into hardmode in Terraria? You could just ignore the Wall of Flesh entirely and play the game like it was back in 1.0, similar to how you can ignore most of the stuff in Minecraft and play it like it was in an early build.

Ok, the claim that you need the wiki to beat Terraria is only a half truth. You need the wiki only if you want to learn about non obligatory stuff like specific class progression, how to spawn certain non mandatory bosses like Deerclops, Queen Slime, Duke Fishron, and The Empress Of Light, or niche items with low drop rates. You can actually play Terraria your first time without the wiki if you look at the next achievement the game wants you to get, specifically which bosses you have yet to fight, and constantly check with the Guide NPC to see what can be crafted. For example, I have been playing Terraria for several years now and have beaten the game on every mode including Legendary Mode, which is a secret mode unlocked by playing Master Mode on the getfixedboi seed, and I just recently discovered that the Dao Of Pow existed since I randomly got a world with both a corrupted desert and hallowed desert present.

Terraria also added the Journey mode for the super casuals in the last big update. It's true that fundamentally those two games have very different genres and goals, though I'd argue that if Terraria was made in 3D it would wipe the floor with Minecraft even at the aspects Minecraft is supposed to excel at. Creativity in building due to being 3D is really the only thing Minecraft can outshine Terraria, and a 3D version of Terraria would account for that easily. You're not forced to do boss fights and can easily get the proper building materials without serious fights. Terraria also has tons of decoration items ranging from chairs to bathtubs, which Minecraft is mostly missing for some reason. Only 2D is holding it back in this department. Other than that Terraria is vastly superior.
@SenzuMike3 ай бұрын
I think a 3D version of Terraria would actually ruin the game imo. The only reason why the combat can be the way it is, and the only reason it can be so content packed is because of the leverages 2D provides (i.e. faster dev time, 2D spaces being less complicated than 3D spaces, etc). There are also many other ways that Minecraft outshines Terraria than what you just mentioned; the catalogue of past videos on my channel is proof of that. Take how someone coded FNAF into vanilla Minecraft, or the PvP and Parkour scene which would be impossible to replicate in Terraria. As the pinned comment illustrated, I believe that Terraria has a vastly superior core gameplay loop to Minecraft. Minecraft's survival stands ZERO chance against Terraria's progression system. It's Minecraft's other aspects that elevate it to a level matching Terraria in quality.

I'm gonna be honest I have a reason for think that terraria is better 1.3 literally added over 800 new sprites while in Minecraft they expect me to be hyped over a new stair case and many people say thing about hoe Minecraft is better because of building with more options that's completely wrong Minecraft doesn't even have chairs terraria has end game toilets. Terraria actually interact with the community and even adds in suggestions for Minecraft on the other hand it feels like they're trying to do what they fanbase doesn't want "Yay one new mob this year with a singular purpose" I'd argue that some terraria updates have more content then so of Minecraft itself. As well asxthere being no insentive to fight bosses besides beacon upgrades terraria is much better at rewarding the player and having a clear progression the only time they've ever lied to the community was when they said they were going to stop updating the game Minecraft even has a bigger studio then terraria even of you say its 3d so it's harder to do the sheer amount of content they add makes Minecraft "oh it's 3d" seem effortless

Would you mind if you elaborated on your answer, as I understand your complaint about the resolution on the Terraria section, since I had to zoom in so much, but I am unsure of what you mean by 'Better FPS' when I have a consistent >60, the maximum FPS on KZbin. Do you have a lower resolution on perhaps? I also do not know what you mean by 'edited cleaner' and 'had better thumbnails', as for the former, I understand somewhat, yet it's too simple of a word to state your point well enough. Would you mind pointing out certain instances of what you mean? As for the latter, I think my thumbnail on this video is actually really good, so I'll leave this one as an 'agree to disagree', unless you saw my past thumbnails on this channel, then I'd just agree.
@miserryyterraria10 ай бұрын
@@SenzuMike You'd have to render the video in 60 fps, you can see at 6:25 that there's a large frame drop which I'm assuming is from your side, since the dungeon guardian causes large frame drops. If it were 60 fps like you said you would see it in the settings for your video. It also looks like you were recording from your monitor instead of the application, which can reduce frames as well. As I was saying earlier, the 6:20 mark isn't zoomed in but still looks 720p, which is definitely a recording issue since the KZbin video is 1080p. And for thumbnails, for this one specifically you should have put a drop shadow or glow outline on the pngs you added, the Minecraft logo terraria logo, and VS image. And the other thumbnails you have are too dark, you need to add another layer and just brighten the image as a whole by color-picking a certain color, then making a brighter version of that color and drawing on the old color to brighten it up. For example your "So, Tubnet Finally Shut Down..." would be a fine thumbnail but it was clearly rendered in Minecraft, causing a dark shader on the players. You'd have to brighten this up by either rendering it in blender instead or just changing the brightness/contrast of the image.
