Some corrections: • The Nurse’s favorite biome is the Hallow. She’s okay in the desert, but I grouped her with the Arms Dealer because she does like him. • NPCs do not need to be happy in order to have a working Pylon. There just needs to be 2 or more NPCs. • The Reaver Shark USED to be able to mine Hellstone, but as of 1.4, the Reaver Shark can only mine Demonite, Crimtane, or weaker ores. I think I got the idea of the Reaver Shark mining Hellstone because I did a playthrough a long time ago where I only used fishing to get materials. • Crawltipedes spawn naturally, not from enemies. • Permanent, not “pernament”

I'm glad you touched on the world being its own character, that's how I view the whole game. The main character isn't the moon lord, or cthulhu, or even you, it's the world. Enemies only really spawn and swarm around players because the world is recognizing you as a threat, knowing your eventual goal. You have to fight against it in order to save it, eventually combating even the moon and its forces. A lot of the conflicts center around the world or change it in some way, which I think is a really unique and fun concept for a sandbox game and makes maintaining and taking care of it that much more rewarding

I often hear that Terraria is basically 2D Minecraft... but it seems more accurate to say that Minecraft is like someone made a 3D clone of Terraria but removed virtually everything except mining and crafting. The rest of the game is missing.
@icariusinius82397 ай бұрын
unmodded minecraft kinda sucks with the amount of quality of life it has. the progression system is not even close to being any good, every biome has the same enemies and underground areas. the main issue with minecraft for me personally is that mojang just does not want to step out of their confort zone to attempt to make the game the best version of itself. the game just has so many useless features that don't get updated because "it may piss off players or ruin old builds" and so many outdated systems like the difficulty selection. base minecraft is just lacking cause well "you can just install mods", the game is kinda cool with mods but only enjoyable with friends for me, still makes the game a lot better by focusing on it's strenghs on being a game about creation and optimisation. terraria is all about exploration and combat. the game is less accessible by default but is way more polished and refined to its maximum potential. minecraft development just has been really out of touch and relying on modders and server developers to fix their game.

There is part of me that would like if they fleshed out the ocean and space a bit more. I’ve had this idea of like if they made the space taller and added like asteroids and such at a certain height before eventually reaching like a moon area or something at the top. No mandatory progression but maybe an some moon caves and an optional boss or something could be neat to dick around with in postgame.

It's like that old friend of yours that you grew up with you and changed with you. It's crazy to see how much the game improved and how popular it is.
@sedarue1237 ай бұрын
The one thing I love about progression in this game is that it is never the same depending on how you play. As a summoner in 1.4, when you first start playing you need to find a summon if not in journey. For example, If you find the finch staff, the snow is your next stop to kill fluffy boys. Obtaining their fur gives you a good summon and armor set. Then going to the jungle to fish for ingredients. Then gearing up for the optional boss Queen Bee to get her armor. Meanwhile with a Ranger, blitzing the corruption/crimson or the desert would be the way to go for gear.
@RyderPlatinumWarpstar7 ай бұрын
Oh yes that’s another thing I really enjoy about the different classes! Each one has you go on a different path for each weapon and armor set. Like, as an example, the dungeon after Plantera is extremely important if you’re going Magic, but it’s relatively optional if you’re Melee, Ranged, or Summoner.

I don’t understand where the review was in this video. It felt like a summary, which is helpful for those who haven’t heard of the game for sure. I guess I’m confused as to the objective of this content
@RyderPlatinumWarpstar8 ай бұрын
I’ve actually gotten a similar comment from one of my friends who watched this as well saying it isn’t really a retrospective. For this video, I wanted to showcase how Terraria expresses freedom in multiple aspects, both thematically, and in its gameplay, while still being a tightly structured video game. I didn’t really dig into the typical review format for this video since I didn’t feel the need to outright state how the aesthetics are good or the soundtrack is incredible, I wanted to show those aspects as well as the theme of the game through 4 categories: “Build, Dig, Fight, & Explore”, which is actually the 4 words this game uses in a lot of the trailers from a long time ago, and I aimed to showcase some elements of good game design with its different mechanics, like how there a lot of light sources you can find when mining in the game to keep the player wanting to constantly explore the caves. Whether or not I succeeded in my objective for the video is a matter of opinion. And while I missed a few things that the comments have no doubt pointed out, I like to think I did a good job with what I aimed to do with this video. But, like I said, not everyone will agree, and that’s okay.
@kylewise75547 ай бұрын
@@RyderPlatinumWarpstar I appreciate the response it’s awesome to have a back and forth with the creator of the video. I guess my confusion is better summarized not in judging this as good or bad like a book report for high school but rather I think we fundamentally have different expectations of the word retrospective or review. To me a better descriptor would be a summary of progression and my comedic take on bits and pieces of it. Again appreciate the feedback, I think we are just on the internet for different things.

"Retrospective?" It's still evolving.

It is continuously evolving as we speak. Won’t be too much longer until 1.4.5 is out.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Terraria is one of the greatest games of all time

Genuinely my biggest gripe that I've ever had with Terraria is also a collection of decisions that flew in the face of the game's freedom. The Reaver Shark and Crates. Fishing, if you knew what it was capable of (foreknowledge), had the materials to take advantage of it (preparation) and were willing to put in the time and deal with rng (patience), once upon a time allowed you to skip two of the most tedious parts of the game if you so desired, by deliberately choosing a different sort of tedium. You didn't have to go through copper to gold, you could just jump straight to Hellstone. Furthermore, you didn't have to go through Cobalt to Adamantite, you could simply save up Crates. The latter of which could be a definite boon in a multiplayer world. It also gave you a far easier pathway a world without random goblin invasions since you could simply choose to not fight the evil boss. Now the only way to get a world free of meteors and free of goblin invasions is to use a summon item and only _partially_ defeat the boss, gathering random scraps in the process, just enough to get the pickaxe. But you are pretty much forced to encounter the pre-hardmode evil boss now, and that's just... annoying to have to do every single time. Sure, in most playthroughs I would've done it eventually regardless, but having it thrown in my face isn't great. And knowing that those more rigid approach to the progression was done largely at the behest of one person in the team campaigning for months to convince the rest it was a good idea is just... kind of frustrating.

It really does feel like fishing was nerfed pretty hardcore over the years.
@oriondezagrats42286 ай бұрын
@@RyderPlatinumWarpstar Honestly, fishing is a path only veterans really take, so I never really understood nerfing it to enforce the primary progression path since it doesn't really help first-time players in any way.
@RyderPlatinumWarpstar6 ай бұрын
@oriondezagrats4228 My guess is that they want the players to have the primary Terraria experience before getting experimental with different paths n’ such.
