I lean towards a fast action medium light 7ft spinning rod with a 2000 series reel spooled with 6# Trilene XL. The baits seem twitch and glide OK and line stretch seems manageable, but I am always willing to try another technique. Thanks again for one more thing to try once this endless crappy weather breaks.

Thanks Nate great insight I use a 6"6' med fast 15# braid to 10# fluro 6' leader Shimano Sahara spinning reel works well with no issues .

Lol, I have basically same combo in the 8:1. I went with 3 kistlers this year, a custom Z Bone in 2 power, A helium in 4 power, and a klx in 3. Another rod I went with is the Ark reniforcer ML casting that may become my favorite. Not sure yet, its an oddball with a 1/8 to 1 ounce rating. So far its been interesting...basically a ML jig and worm rod. But I'm loving the kistlers as well. I go 20 or 15lb braid to about 20 yards of fluorocarbon. Tied with a FG knot, its perfect. Topwater for me is the same just to mono.

New Sub here! I agree with you, your kistler rod of choice is very similar to the rod of choice for me, which is a dobyns fury 663. Specs almost the same as the kistler rod you mention. Personally love the tatula 100 for jerkbaits as well. Its very good with the light fluorocarbon you use with jerkbaits, soft or hard, along with jerkbaits the combo is very good with heavier shakeyheads as well.

Do you think you can throw jerkbaits with braid to flouro/mono? I want to setup a jerkbait/topwater combo to be more versatile

You could just a few issues to watch would be braid floats so it might make a suspending jerkbait float. And there is no stretch so it might bend out the light hooks on Jerkbaits!
