small tip when recording into (any version of Logic) : set the BPM in Logic to the same BPM as your Digitakt, record all your tracks separately but in one go in Logic. So you press play on the Digitakt and go from one solo-ed track to the next while Logic keeps recording. You end up with one audio file, containing all your tracks. Just reposition the start of that audio track to bar 1 beat 1 and now all, you have to do is slice on the bar for every new track and move them to a new track in Logic. This saves you from pressing stop and play for every new track and repositioning every new recorded track. Just slice on the bar and everything is in sync. Huge timesaver when recording audio into Logic.

I wonder if you've ever done a completely geeked out run-down of your signal path / midi path management in your studio? For instance, how you make use of your patch bay, what you're using to pipe the Digitakt into the iPad -- that kind of stuff. I'm super curious about the digital plumbing of your set ups.

Cool video man, I’ve been using Logic on my iPad Air 4 with a bunch of soft synths and having a blast. Always been interested in the elektron gear, cool to see how well a Digitakt pairs with Logic in this set up. Also, for that issue you’re talking about, where you have to go to the mixer and press channel eq there, try long pressing the channel eq strip when that happens, a menu will open up and you can click expand/open or something like that.

Thanks for this video! I recently got an OP-1f, and have been following a very similar workflow, but using a laptop with Bitwig instead. I even do the same things as you, like merging clips after I have cut/paste sections to change them, haha. This workflow works great, and I'm not limited by OP-1's four track or lack of undo - particularly important when I want to be spontaneous, and not *think* but *do* instead. But now I'm looking for more portability, and with Logic Pro finally available for the iPad, that may be the route to go. The other thing is that, if I really want my projects to be compatible across the desktop and iPad, I will need to stick to a limited set of tools (mainly logic's native ones), which could end up being a blessing. Thanks for everything. Keep up the great work!!!

Nice to see you use Logic. For reasons I can't explain, Logic is the DAW in which I am most likely to finish a track where I'm much more likely to just keep doodling in other DAWs (and I've tried loads of them).
@RickyTinez Жыл бұрын
I hear that Rutger! For example, Ableton Live's session view is SO HARD for me to finish a song in. I feel like there is never a beginning when I'm using that view. The arrangement view, however, is much easier to have a start and finish. Also, Logic's modular style interface is nice to not have to flip back and forth between views to see my mixer or audio info etc.
@cadetesespaciales Жыл бұрын
@@RickyTinez I was a die hard session view fan in Live. I started using it like in v4. Its great for either 1) having fun/exploring ideas or 2) performing a live set. But I'm on the same boat...I never actually finished that many tracks that way. Since then I've moved on to good old linear arrangement. My brain seems to better grasp what I have done, what's missing, etc. Oh, and I also moved from Ableton to Bitwig, but that's another story hehe.

Hey Ricky, I’m a little late to this video, but I wanted to get your thoughts on using logic on the iPad mini because there’s hardly any content out there on this. I really like the mini’s form factor but I wonder if it gets a bit fiddly using logic due to all the nesting windows. i’d rather not bug a bigger I’ve had around though. I really like what you said about the iPad being the most powerful groove box on the market and I’d love to see some videos of people using the iPad like a groovebox to sketch out an idea and perform it. Anyway, thanks for all the great content. I always enjoy your videos.

Every time I connect my DT to the iPad I always end up with the same conclusion.. Why not just connect it to my Macbook instead. Not much bigger, overbridge, way better daw and (except for multitouch faders) is a lot easier to use. And file handling on the iPad is clunky. Even though I really want the iPad to have a place in my setup, it just comes short on every front except the few times I like to use multitouch. Better to use as a bluetooth midi controller.

Ricky after you got your words together, you now have a rhythm that goes with the music. You should go back to your Nord, and play the melody that goes like “I don’t know what to say. I don’t know what to do… “It’s a very old trick for producing melodic phrases that breathe.

@Iredidv Жыл бұрын
Been thinking of doing this with maschine plus. I don’t arrange on m+ but make a load of different patterns for every sound separate with tweaks and fx. I wonder, logic on iPadOS has ableton link? If so how is the recording, can you get it on grid with measured latency settings? All I want to do is make a long kick pattern with variations, next sound on next track etc… I just want if I jam that it fits with previous tracks so there is no timing difference and I don’t have to do it afterwards. I have a focusrite/behringer 18/20, and a Rev 7 for possible soundcard for the iPad and maschine ( not very known trick, I can route maschine through the 3 channels of the Rev 7, left right and ext in, and use the eq filters and beat fx when the Rev 7 is in standalone / mixer mode. It’s of course great to sample from using stems to isolate, use the pitch and tempo detection and stretching and pitch shifting, which is pitch n time probably the best algorithm although the maschine offline pitch/timestretch is also very good imo, the thing is I almost never dj with the Rev 7 lol it’s an instrument/fx box for me) Great studio subject btw. ❤

@RickyTinez Жыл бұрын
This one is audio over USB through the Digitakt. Think of the Digitakt like an audio interface (Scarlett 2i2). The Digitakt. Has audio inputs on the back and that’s how the synths can be heard in logic if they’re plugged into the Digitakt.
@dmitryfomin2671 Жыл бұрын
I connect a Yamaha usb mixer, instead of digitact, which I can’t afford haha. So the synths go into the iPad through the mixer and at the same time, dry signal out to speakers. In this way, even if iPad crashes or glitches, I can perfectly play synths until it’s back on track.

Subscribed! Hi Ricky, three questions! How does Logic run on the Ipad Mini (6?). For example, how many tracks can you run before it gets buggy? And are you able to use a lot of plugins? thanks! :)

Thanks for the iPad Logic Pro as workflow. I've been holding back thinking it's not going to have good functionality in comparison to Live. Do you think it can handle long songs, or will it choke when you chalenge it? And what about portability to Ableton.. is that a no go? In other words, does on get too locked in when using it. I have Logic Pro on my mac mini so are productions easy to migrate? What do you think, overall..?
@RickyTinez Жыл бұрын
In terms of long songs, I think it can totally do it. If anything maybe the iPad you use might be the constraining factor? So far on my mini it's been good. crashes once in awhile, but the autosave has never left anything out I wasn't JUST working on. Portable Ableton is Push 3, I somehow like the idea that my iPad mini is so tiny and can do all the DAW stuff. Making stuff at home in the studio and fine tuning and playing with the sounds later on when I'm away with just my iPad has been nice. I've heard productions and instruments/samples should sync across. The only concern I hear is of bigger plug-ins that aren't in some iOS format or "extension" I think is the word. I rarely use plug-ins so it hasn't been an issue for me!

Thanks for another nice video! I'm super novice in this beat making (hobby - for me) and I really like your beats vibe. 3 ideas that I would like you to consider: 1. A basic educational video on how to make such (Detroit House) kind of music. Perhaps explaining how the Digitakt works and show more of it together with Logic Pro X for Mac. I have Logic, Yamaha MX49, Casio Privia PX-870 and ... PO-33 - inspired by your videos :). I like the Digitakt but still do not get the motivation to buy it, especially that I can make all the beats ans visualise the tracks in Logic. 2. Also I would like to ask if you could publish more to Spotify. When writing this I'm enjoying your Single Deci. Your sounds are really great. Please give us more listen on Spotify. 3. And lastly a guide of some kind or a comment about artist publishing on Spotify would be nice. Thanks for your work!
