Disliked: AI is now used in most large companies to "weed out" most resumes, and the formatting is extremely precise, so much so that you're better off slopping all this stuff down on a word document and paying someone firmiliar with, or better still, HAS the AI program your resume will be filtered through, to write your resume for you. So, while you may be qualified, or be the most qualified person, for the job you want, this video cannot help anyone get there. It doesn't even mention AI filtering. One word wrong, one thing out of place, even the attempt to "stand out" by humor or being charming, and NOPE, the AI sends it to the burn pile. Welcome to the world of nihilism and selfishness, where the first judgement has already been made before you introduce yourself, neither you, nor anyone else, matters as a person. Obviously, these people never watched movies like, Rudy, or, The Natural. Welcome to a world where grit, determination, passion, or an always gets the job done attitude could not matter less. So just pay up. No person can thread the needle against an AI that is targeting specific word combinations. How do I know and why should you believe me over the nice lady in this video? Because I write computer programs and I know that thousands of man hours can go into any program and I know that when you face an AI program, you aren't up against one person or even a team of people reading through resumes, using human judgment and intuition to maybe give a "stand out" person an honest chance. No. You face a program designed by people who are programers, people who wrote this program for the specific needs and wants of a company. Basically, you are throwing a dart through a thousand "Bull's Eye's" and you must hit every single one perfectly. Who can do that? Obviously, the AI can. Which is why you pay someone who is intimately firmiliar with the AI program, or who has the AI program, to write your resume for you. Then it is the AI program telling the AI program, that you're a candidate for the job you want. Sound insane? That's because it is insane. The core weakness of it all is, soon it will be AI program hiring an AI person, not a real person. We, as real people, won't even be a factor any more. Charm, charisma, quirks, and undesirable people will all be overlooked due to AI worship and the worship of technology. How's that for a false idol? Companies will stop trusting their gut to the degree that they don't even have that intuitive gut to trust. You know, that tickle in the back of your mind, the clench in your stomach, that smile in your heart that says, "Yes, that's exactly what we need", or "No, something I can't put my finger on tells me, no way". Ya, THAT human thing we all have that prevents us from picking up some lunatic hitch hiker or stops us to pick up a hitch hiker that is a person who just ran out of gas, ya, THAT, will be gone or ignored, because "M' AI said!" Pathetic if you ask me but, you can't stop stupid. People have these things for a good reason, things about them that computers can't quantify or comprehend. And those things can, very much, tip the scales for the good of others, may even save lives. No AI can do that. Only a human, good and decent, thoughtful and humble, caring and decent, can. Computers and programs have their uses and their place, and it shouldn't be as "gate keepers" to human beings. That is our duty, our responsibility, and what we are meant to do. Yes, I said it. Human's are here to use their own judgment, intuition, and heart, with, for, or against, other humans. I'll even go a step further and say, it is necessary that we do so. It may be an unlikable and sometimes heart wrenching thing we do but, we should do it, not some program in some machine, who really, in the end, won't be doing it anyway. We will just be dilluding ourselves into believing that the AI machine has done it when, in fact, it won't have been done at all. Dangerous, stupid, and perhaps deadly. But, when AI vs. AI, that is the insanity we'll all get. So, pay up and do your part to play this out. And when an AI passes some lunatic through the process, who ends up turning him/her self into a human bomb and blows up an entire business, and AI is to blame, and businesses realize that humans need to to what humans were meant to do, pass reasonable, honest, good-faith judgments, on one another, not machines, and we develop ourselves and our goodness and our wisdom and our forgiveness and our character, to make wholesome decisions, instead of writing programs. Humanities future is with humanity, not with technology. If we're going to do that, the answers won't be found with a programmer, rather with a philosopher or a theologian, in religion and with God.

I enjoy your content Professor Heather Austin. I used your template last year to sharpen up my format. I had always been hired via word of mouth and the resume was a formality so I never received any constructive criticism until I had to make a resume do some heavy lifting. I shotgunned a dozen terrible resumes out there and got the feedback from a few HR folks. I was honestly embarrassed but then I found you and spent a few days formatting my content. The results were immediate! Thank you 🙏

I have some questions: 1. I’ve been rejected from about 50 interviews. (In the last one they found the excuse that I could have given more examples. There must have been 20 to 30 perfectly given interviews with no feedback at all. The feedback I got from a lot of them is that they went for another candidate). 2. Before the pandemic it only took around 4 interviews to secure a new role 3. I went to a top business school and have half a decade of experience working for blue chip companies 4. *I’ve been given the advice by some corporate operatives that I could still somehow secure a role at a top company even if I’ve been unemployed for half a dozen years* *Is it discrimination? Is it bias because there is money involved? I would just like to know what is going on as I’m being forced to retire early abroad/take a career break in the summer*..

Hi Prof. Heather, I went back here because I just wanted to say thank you. After using your free template and watching your videos I got multiple offers and job interviews as well. I was hesitant at first because they said if you have no experience or less experience, your resume should only be 1 page but I just followed what you have there and tailored it, I actually never had any issues with it although I don't really have a strong resume profile but you made me feel like I would kill it in any ways. I am already hired and I still want to continue watching your videos for future reference. Your free template and samples are so worth it!

I don't agree that putting the date of graduation should be included if the date was more than 10 years ago or so. This is because it is a good way for employers to age discriminate as the graduation date hints to how old a person is not wanting to hire a older worker. If they ask during the interview then you can tell them but you want the interview first. HR will verify the date anyway but you want to make it to the interview.

I’m so glad I came across your videos & I’m now a subscriber, but I wanted to share something with you. In NJ it isn’t required to list dates of employment or education in your application as that falls into the “age stereotyping” and can be used against the candidate. I know that seems counterproductive since you’d think a company WANTS a person with experience. What’s your opinion on this? Thank you 🤗

How did you go with this? If the small business would help you get the job then include it, if it is simply something extra that you're doing that isn't related to the job you're going for don't include it. You don't need to include everything, it's better to highlight what is relevant and have an effective resume instead of a complete resume.

I'm glad you found the video helpful! To generalize your LinkedIn profile for both an assistant project manager and an IT analyst role, focus on skills and experiences that are relevant to both positions. Highlight your project management skills, technical knowledge, and any IT-related accomplishments. Use a headline that encompasses both roles, like "IT Professional with Project Management Expertise." In your summary, talk about your passion for IT and your adaptability to different roles within the industry. Also, engage with content and join groups related to both fields to show your diverse interest. Tailoring your profile this way shows your versatility and readiness for various opportunities in the IT sector. Good luck!

@JoseRap
@JoseRap 10 ай бұрын
Put a resume together. Does the job you want have a job ad? if so try to 'answer' the job ad with your resume. so if the job asks for someone to be - organised, have experience in microsoft excel, and have a great phone manner, then you can add these skills to your technical skills section, and also have an entry in your relevant experience section that highlights where you got the experience. Doesn't have to be a job, could be a subject at school, an assignment. Think of it this way, as a person looking to hire another person, I don't care where they got their experience from, i just want to know that you can do this task and then i might be curious as to where you got that experience from. (most of the times) Lastly, put a resume together, you have to understand that the resume is the first part of getting the job and will usually be the thing that the person hiring will use to organise the hiring process so basically what I'm saying is even if you're resume is small and doesn't have a lot of experience in it put the resume together as it is your foot in the door.

not if you're 40 years old and no one cares about your education because heaps of other stuff you've done is more relevant. If you're 24 and just finished college, you can put in your highschool education, if you think it helps you. If it's just a formality for you then I'd say no. I usually don't include anything in my resume that isn't on purpose. you don't have to include everytihng.

Same happened to me when I tried to download it. Was stuck on a screen saying it was 80% complete and being processed for my inbox with a huge add for the toolkit counting down for 30minutes just an FYI to anyone wanting the template

I think the video would be better if your camera shows more on the documents, not on your face.

Making resumes is such a bullshit process, it requires, psychology skills, sales skills, organization, basics of algorithm and grammar, that's why I rather pay 15 bucks to someone to do my resume it only takes them 30 mins to do it and it looks 10 times better than how I do it.
