@@blastaway1784 Watches are all superfluous. You're phone is almost always at hand to check the date when travelling and even if it's lost or dead it's not hard to find out a date. It is, however, hard to balance a small dial with a date when it looks like this.

Beautiful. If I were to get a date on there I'd actually love a 5th hand, for a pointer date. Put the min track to the inside and your 31 on the outside track, where the min track currently runs. A touch busy but would look class!

I’ve had an automatic Empire three-hander for a few years and because of my experience with, and satisfaction from, that watch I’ve gotten others from Vario. Ivan does a great job with their multiple lines and overall vintage style theme. This GMT looks great! A worthy additional model.

I love the green dial but think the overhead shot on the bracelet tended to wash out the dial color, the black leather made the dial pop much more. Beautiful looking watch.

Jody, glad you've begun specifying the GMT's you review - Caller vs. Flyer. One of the main advantages of this new Miyota (over the new Seiko) is that it's a flyer. While this watch is very cool, I think they are forfeiting the value of the flyer date complication. Great review.

Removing the date complication was the right thing to do. If you look at the design of the dial and not at the GMT function - that's ok and do not suffer from the absence of the date. Keep your elephant, Jody.

I like the Art Deco look but have a problem with decontenting a watch. You’re right, having a date complication on this one would have been awkward at best. And so it is not the watch for me, but could be for others. Cheers!

Really nice looking watches. Love the deco dial and hand design. Been considering one for a while - partly because the nicest three-hand colourways have long been sold out. The lack of date is a serious mark against it in my book, with it being a gmt - but I do take your point - I'm not sure where they could have put it without seriously disrupting the dial layout and symmetry.

Hmm… The current Lorier Hyperion GMT and the Hydra GMT have the same Miota 9075 travelers GMT movement and astonishing looks and finishing for lots less $. Yes they have a Hesalite crystal but it looks amazing and can be easily polished if it ever gets a scuff

It's nice. I like the salmon one and the silver one. The font is pretty much perfect. The price is way too high though, even if it had a Date display. Without Date, it's not for me unless the price is dropped to around $300ish. The movement alone costs that much? Oh well...

What are your feelings on quick-release straps in general? Thinking about picking up a rubber strap for one of my divers for summer, and most companies seem to be going with quick-releases. I just worry about them getting bumped and the strap coming loose or something…

I've a vintage watch that needs to wound around every day until you get to the correct date, I forgive it because of it's age. I thought those days had gone so I can see why Vario masked that by missing out the date. It's a nice looking watch although a bit pricy, you're not going to confuse it with something else

A sweet little watch, as you say! But although the colours are nice, I think I'd need a bit of time to get used to them together with the design, seeing as they come off a bit cartoonish to me. I also think it's a shame that the GMT numerals aren't in the same font as the art deco numerals for the main time. Great video though, cheers!

Now, it strikes me that not having the date is a practical and aesthetic asset. When you do have the date, which time zone does it refer to? And as you indicate yourself, on this moment the quick set is missing which would be a pain in the behind. Finally, unless one actually is quite jetset in lifestyle, I think a simpler to operate caller GMT brings more joy and practicality. All of that is about the movement. I can quite enjoy this style of watch, but in this series I think the Vario Empire tuxedo style dials remain the most immediately attractive ones. For whatever reason, as I can't claim that is much wrong with the composition, I am not really connecting with this.

I'd probably like a traveller's ( not true) GMT more without a date to be honest. Setting the date is more tedious than it needs to be. It actually tilts the scales in favor of the caller GMT for most situations, IMNSHO.

I do love a retro style watch. This one reminds me a bit of the 'Art Devo' that I checked out a few years ago. I'm with you on the bracelet... I'm normally a bracelet guy too... But I just don't think this one works with the watch at all. I'd be wearing it on one of their nice leather straps for sure. It just suits the watch far better, I think.

The lack of a date on a GMT kills it as an option for me. In my opinion, a GMT is a tool and therefore requires a date window. Terrible decision and I adore this watch design so it really bums me out.
