I shot one years ago had the same problem with his back leg. It was cartilage build up from where he had previously injured or broken his knee, it was a solid mass the size of a grape fruit. He couldn't even bend it.

At 12:53 you can see the swelling in its front right leg. Its like my horses leg when it got a puncture infection. MN Hunter dude did you see how the buck hurt himself on his right leg? Once again nice buck..
