I have seen enough videos about the perfect ux portfolio and this is the most helpful so far, why? because it's exactly like you said, there is no such thing!! and that is good. People trying to make us believe that there is, it's a waste of time because if you didn't get the job you'll believe it's because of it and maybe it's not. I much preferred this kinda content that puts me in a state of mind of questioning and thinking by myself, and thinking about not only a portfolio but gives me context and much more useful information. Thankssssss a lot.

Thanks and glad it landed that well! I wanted to share several outstanding portfolios to me and my roles I hire for, but I know if people would take it at a face value they won't get the interviews they seek - the market maturity, industries, hiring manager maturity and job ad all can throw the 'perfect ' portfolio out of whack

Getting into UX is tough and requires excellence. People may not understand that, and that’s why they think you’re aggressive when you “roast” portfolios. I appreciate your no-BS teaching style.

Well said. But the title could be less click-baity.

I was like, "That doesn't exist. Yup. There it is." My students used to say I roasted them all the time. I'm giving feedback that happens to be funny. I got a response that said "Sir, there was so much shade thrown yesterday, no sun was seen." The alliteration! Giving feedback that is beneficial is just as vulnerable as receiving it. I appreciate watching your videos as I learn more about this UX world.

This is super helpful as I agree: there is no single template. Every case study is different. Every job is different. That said, would love to see portfolios for say, research v generalist positions. Perhaps it's helpful for many in transition to see these differences? Thanks again for always being so informative, consistent.

Punching people in the mouth with some truth that they aren’t willing to accept. Part of UX philosophy is constant refinement and tailoring solutions that best fit the needs, the same applies to a portfolio.

Great advice! You are absolutely right! The perfect portfolio does not exist, and it is just a matter of tailoring it to fit the hiring company's needs. Thanks for the video!

Making a perfect portfolio is like designing a shoe and selling it to a shoe manufacturer.

What are your thoughts about "unicorns"? What if you have enough knowledge and demonstrate enough skills in all of those areas that were mentioned....? ALSO I really enjoy your videos!!!!
@vaexperience3 жыл бұрын
Tailoring the portfolio to showcase the highlights the hiring managers would seek. That's why the portfolio of very experienced uxers is not public website or 'static' set of pages. It has to be modular enough for anyone to quickly pull up relevant cases that highlight the skills out of the huge unicorn skillet and also tailor the resume and other peripherals. If you have 100 of skills but the job needs 10 - make those 10 top notch and then add another 20 saying 'I'm also a ninja at these things'. Not in those terms, but you get the drill 😉

If design was so cookie cutter like, it wouldn't be design anymore. I understand why they ask for a perfect portfolio, but rather than that. they need to ask what it takes to design a good portfolio for a particular job role.
