Thanks so much for putting this information out there Liz, I had been misdiagnosed for the past few years, but now I am happy to report the last four months I've been on HRT and my world is now slowly but surely coming back to how it used to be before menopause,, I had been admitted to hospital for a racing heartbeat, I had great difficulty sleeping, my bones were aching the hot flushes were embarrassing and I actually thought I may be losing the plot, one doctor actually recommended anti-depressants which I knew wasn't the solution, but thankfully my old doctor had been to a recent seminar on menopause and had recommended I try HRT, I can honestly say that it has made such a difference, I no longer have the sleepless nights with pain in my bones, I still get some hot flushes and some minor symptoms but on the whole, I am so much better now thanks to HRT and the advice of my doctor.

I had a late menopause with my last period at around 59. Prior to this I did have very achey joints and anxiety but the doctor never suggested peri menopause and did blood tests for rheumatoid arthritis. I was unaware of the connection with menopause. Since my periods stopped my syptoms have got worse with lots of hot flushes, bad anxiety, trouble sleeping, brain fog, vaginal atrophy. I am currently on Vagifem for the atrophy, but since listening to you and the Menopause Doctor I have an appointment next week with my GP to discuss HRT. I am now 62 but hopeful I can still get it. Thank you for what you are doing...I have been a long time user of your skincare range, since it's launch on QVC, and still use it today...although I realise you are no longer connected to the business now. Kim x

Hi Kim, thanks so much for your comment here. I hope all goes well with your GP next week - HRT can be prescribed at any age and this is a really important issue to raise and one that I will flag with Liz to discuss further in this series. Best wishes, Annie

@@lizearlewellbeing Thank you for replying. Yes, I have noticed a lot of discussion about early menopause, but not late menopause, so it would be good to hear about that too.

Really looking forward to watching this series! I'm 54 and have been perimenopausal for around 8 years I reckon, with the most awful, heavy periods. My last proper period was in August and the hot flushes, brain fog, aching joints etc started with a vengeance - it was like my hormones had flatlined. Then suddenly around a month ago, things changed again and it was if my hormones had switched back on! I'm not sure if I can take HRT due to a family history of pulmonary embolisms; I have Lupus although that seems to be in remission, and I am also overweight. I'd be very interested to hear about HRT even where an individual may not be a good candidate for it on paper, and also any other supplements etc which might help! So grateful to you Liz, for championing this cause!

I’m right behind you! I will be 50 in May and feel like things are changing quickly. This last year I swear that my neck just started looking really old and saggy with lines and rings. I feel so unattractive right now and hate feeling like this. It’s almost like being in high school again and it’s the uncertainty and self esteem issues. I don’t think that this pandemic has made anything any better and I will be so happy to get vaccinated so I can spend time with my kids and grandkids again. I’m missing my family so much. Hang in there my dear.

I’ve been having spells of extreme rage where can’t even stand myself. I don’t know what to do anymore. I already have something causing my uterus to be enlarged and also a Fibroid that makes my lower belly look weird so I don’t know if I can take anything that will also make that issue worse. I’m going to be 50 in another month and would love to have my painful uterine problems gone without surgery and also be able to help my severe mood changes. My husband looks at me like I’m insane and I give him anxiety by over reacting to things. 🤦‍♀️

Thank you - very helpful. I have been through perimenopause and now in menopause (nearly a year now). I would be interested to know when the perimenpause/menopause symptoms stop? Or when does oestrogen levels settle down? I have been told I can only take HRT for 3 years - I am worried if I stop taking HRT my sleep pattern will detoriate again.

Hi Liz A fab explanation! With the stress of life and lockdown how will high cortisol affect out menopausal bodies? I have found that I'm gaining a muffin top, without muffins and still exercising. My cortisol has been tested and is high (above normal) in the morning. How does this impact our oestrogen, progesterone? Am on HRT, no testosterone! As other peri and postmenopausal women may feel the same, I wondered effects and what can we do to lower the cortisol? Will it cause inflammation and damage our muscles, joints, cause metabolic syndrome? Thanks in advance.

I'm 48 and perimenopausal for a couple of years now. Just as I approach the year mark I end up menstruating!! Anyway I struggle sleeping which is mostly due to waking up dripping in sweat. I've tried one batch of HRT but they made me gain so much weight that then added to my low mood so I've stopped taking them - I would love to know what other variations I could take. Recently my fingers have started seizing up then I get pain shooting up my fingers - very weird. Looking forward to the education of Menopause. x

Liz , can I ask if it’s safe to start HRT at any post menopausal age ? I refer to myself @ 62 & my sister @ 68 . Also referring to dietary fat , I have high cholesterol, but not on medication for it as yet, prefer to watch my diet & exercise. So interested to know if I should not be so worried about fats . My weight is just over 9st & 5” 3 . Would appreciate any advice Thank you 🙏🏻

Hi Liz. I live in Sydney, Australia. I’m on continuous tablet form of HRT (estradiol 1mg & dydrogesterone 5mg per tablet) once per day.. it seems fine but I’m concerned I should be on estrigen gel or patch as more up-to-date formulations. Is there a difference other than preference and should I be seek specialist medical advice on this issue? Thanks. You r amazing!

This is not true. Read Liz and Dr Louise Newson website. Go back armed with information. I started HRT last year at 61 and 7 years post menopausal and 3 or more of them with difficulties no one could get to the bottom of. Thankful beyond measure to Dr Ball one of Dr Newsons colleagues. HRT a big help though dosage still not finally settled on but distinctly better. Persevere.
