@@lianasoares8052 im not sure if you’ve seen the movie or read the book but their relationship is very one sided and charlie doesn’t have feelings for her but he feels obligated to be with her and he doesn’t know how to break up with her so when he says that he wishes one of them would die of cancer he doesn’t really mean it he means that he wants something to happen so that he wouldn’t be dating her anymore but he wouldn’t have to actually go through the process of a typical breakup because it makes him uncomfortable. i hope that explains it let me know if you’re still confused!

I actually feel insanely bad for Charlie in this clip. Obviously I feel a little bad for Mary Elizabeth too. But her personality is just too strong for Charlie to handle. On many occasions he would try and speak and she just wouldn't allow him to. And when he finally felt the small courage to break up with her, although over the phone, she still wouldn't let him speak. She was definitely too aggressive of a person for Charlie and it also makes me a little sad that I feel like everyone in his friend group could see it? But were choosing to ignore it. Well, if her personality wasn't always overriding his personality, maybe she wouldn't have to worry about this, it was clear he always tried to speak up and say things out loud but Elizabeth was always keeping him from doing so, this was built up rage and desperation that exploded, an outcry for how much he wanted to be heard.
