The 2nd band I was in The Maltese Cross” (lol) also played at the 1965 teen fair. We went out to Tommy Mingo’s newer store on Greenback Lane to rent a Fender Showman for the bass player. But it was very disorienting in that they supplied all Fender amps and TGE stage was the largest we’d ever played on. I was only 15 in a band with older guys. The drummer was married and had a baby. Anyway, one evening after rehearsal, we took a drive. We parked across from some park. We walked across to it and at the baseball backstop the other guitarist started climbing. He snipped all the wires to both horns of the ballparks PA system and lowered them down. They must have been 25 inches if not larger. Cabinets were built for them and they were huge and weighed a ton. They filled up the back of a Chevy Nomad. We powered it with a Bogen PA….of course. And we now had a professional sound system…yeah right! Great memories.

I wish. We used to have an old reel to reel recorder and the tapes slipped away years ago. I’m working on a time machine. When I get it ready I’ll come and get you!!
