My brothers I grew up with in Bmore used to sing all songs on literally "the street corner" and people would not open their windows to tell us to stop and go away, but would say things like , "sing that song baby" and we would as best we could sing their favorite Persuasions songs, Buffalo Solider, Good Times, etc., man I sure do miss my brothers Big Sam, and Boobe aka 357, time moves on but the memories are surely cherished. Thank you to those who put up with our "acapella renderings, hope we gave you a bit of peace during a trying time of uncertainty and evolution to our cause and the rebirth of our heritage in the 70's.

@@gingerbread1231 I beg to differ. They performed (one of the greatest moments of my life) IN MY APARTMENT for my 40th birthday celebration. And Sweet Joe personally pulled me in to sing with them on "Down on the Boardwalk." His smile could have replaced a sunrise. Next to my marriage and the birth of my children, it's my most treasured memory. There's a video tape someplace....I'll post if I can find it.

Jerry Lawson recorded what he calls the masterpiece of his a cappella career with Talk of The Town. The CD is available at his website www.jerrylawson.biz- simply titled Jerry Lawson & Talk of The Town. He even has a Persuasions medley on there ( basically a tribute to himself, haha. It's brilliant) Jerry also made his debut as a solo artist in 2015. The CD is "Just A Mortal Man", also at his website. He has done many indie projects and collaborations since walking away from the group. And a documentary is in production about his legacy as the arranger ,producer and signature voice and front man for 40 years and 25 albums. I heard him say that he was saddened when he went to see the IMPOSTORS perform. They were off key and had no showmanship. A bunch of punch drunk singers who don't know when to give it up he said. He left for many reasons but the main one was that they could not harmonize and that was back in 2001.

Jerry Lawson left of his own volition, and now sings with a group based out of San Francisco called, "Talk of the Town". I think the peoplw who are critiquing this group have that right, but, as a long time vocalist, the departure of great lead singers is an unfortunate part of the tradition of vocal groups, IE; Clyde McPhatter left the Drifters, Sam Cooke left the Soul Stirrers as would Johnnie Taylor after him, Lou Rawls left the Pilgrim Travelers, Bobby Womack left his brothers, the Valentinos, David Ruffin & Eddie Kendricks left the Temptations, and yes, Michael Jackson left the Jackson Five. We can't blame these guys for continuing on, plus, the bass & tenor are original members of the Persuasions, they have a right to keep the name going, I thought they were just fine; although, i have to admit, he is no Jerry Lawson, but he is a very decent vocalist..

Totally agree. The group still features original members Jimmy Hayes and Jay Washington, plus longtime member Ray Sanders. I admit that I am a big fan of Jerry Lawson and very much miss hearing his voice with the group, but I will continue to follow and enjoy them in their current incarnation. There are plenty of naysayers out there, and that's perfectly okay. People will say what they want. We all have our own opinions.

Although Jerry Lawson has not yet taken legal action against these men for their unauthorized use of The Persuasions’ name, I thought you might, for the sake of historical accuracy (in other words the truth, not “alternative facts”), want to be educated. Dave Revels , who is the lead singer of this group, profits from and exploits Jerry Lawson’s arrangements, productions, and indeed his Persuasions legacy without any acknowledgement of Lawson. He never reveals that his group, which features only two original members still (Jimmy Hayes, bass, and Jayotis Washington, who sang only very occasional leads) consists of impersonators, and is not the institution that recorded 25 albums over 40 years. Revels even copies Lawson’s lead singing at his whim, which must confuse less discerning audience members unaware that Lawson is no longer with the group. Having two originals apparently gives Revels the excuse to misrepresent this group of (four or five different) revolving singers as “The Persuasions.” No, this is not a case of musicians merely being replaced when members leave an established group. This is akin to Mick Jagger leaving the Rolling Stones, being replaced by an imitator, and the group continuing to be booked as The Rolling Stones. This injustice is perpetrated by Revels.. The Persuasions were known for a distinct sound characterized largely by their lead singer’s signature baritone over 25 albums of original vocal arrangements and production. The group of men using the name, “Persuasions,” attempt to replicate these arrangements, as I said, though it’s a pale imitation. Most egregiously, Revels and his crew had the sheer audacity to record album tributes to U-2 and Bob Dylan that do not in any way suggest the tradition, excellence, dignity of The Persuasions’ recorded legacy. This is so so sad. First of all the background is singing in a different key than the lead..until they all catch on. Whoopi is so uninformed she doesn't know it's not the renowned Persuasions. This is not The Persuasions and Dave Revels is just cashing in on the name. The Persuasions signature sound ended in 2003 with the departure of their lead singer. If any of these men trying to sing the Persuasions repertoire were for real they would call it like it is, A Tribute to The Persuasions. Everyone who has followed the group knows there was only one group of voices that were The Persuasions.

This is pathetic. Has nothing to do with the fact that many groups change members and keep the original group name. This is about lack of talent, and lack of integrity. They are not The Persuasions just because there is an original member or because they are doing the repertoire created by the original lead singer. This is about folks who can't step up to the plate and admit they are a tribute band. Why not? Because they are operating out of fear. Fear of what, that they may not get any work or may not be highly regarded and receive the same accolades as they get for letting people think of them as the original group and the legacy created by Jerry, Jay, Jimmy, Joe & Toubo? Whoever is running this show, Mr. Dave Revels? knows he is wrong but has managed to justify his behavior. This is not the first group with a legacy that he imposed himself upon. He is a vocalist and not a distinctive, recognizable or extraordinary voice. The only way he gets recognition is by associating with a world renown group. All of you reading this who think this post is unkind need to stop taking it personally. If a group's success is due to their signature sound it cannot be duplicated. Therefore any new members change the sound and are merely "covering" the repertoire of that original group. For complete strangers to take credit for the long established legacy that 5 people kept going is unjustified. The Godly thing to do is to be booked as a tribbute group and at each show to have the respect and class to pay homage and educate the audiences about the history of the legendary group. I won't be surprised that when there are no more original Persuasions in this group that Dave Revels will not have the decency to change the group name accordingly.
