i just think this series is getting progressively more tragic as more instalments are added. the idea of marvin digging up the graves of children; the idea of children's bodies being stashed around a windmill; children being trapped in abandoned schools and being taken to counsellors... speaking from experience, i think whoever made this series has absolutely experienced child abuse. the chaos, the counselling and the atmosphere are all so perfectly done to give you that feeling of being a lost kid in an unsafe world, that scares you for reasons you can't explain. incredibly tragic

FE Rebekah It has more to do with underground rehoming, a term usually reserved for adoptions of animals, there is an actual underground trading network of parents who are dissatisfied with their child. Usually the child has behavioral or mental problems, and it’s more akin to craigslist ads than it is an actual adoption. The parents accepting the child don’t have to have any kind of qualifications or any kind of paperwork... Like those kind of people who trade their children (or worse, their child’s body) for crack. It’s a really fucked up world. Not that your theory is any less valid, I just don’t really get the sex trafficking or pedophilia ring thing. There’s way more to do with death, and right at the end, it’s pretty much shown that Marvin murders Paul.

Hey :D I'm a long-term, quiet viewer of Petscop/r/Petscop/your videos and I just wanted to say, thank you for all your hard work in putting this series together. Your analysis is always a breath of fresh air; I mean, I do love the Petscop subreddit for its ideas, memes, and the general level of kindness and respect I've seen it show, but I feel that the theories that get the most attention there tend to miss the mark. I think it's a consequence of viewing Petscop as a puzzle to be solved, so 'theorists' become fixated on decoding the narrative events of Petscop over considering narrative intent, which, yeah, you can't consider narrative intent without a narrative, but the almost memetic hysteria surrounding some of the proposed theories (especially around New Video time) tends to muddy the water of what Petscop is, the story it's trying to tell, and, most importantly, the reason it is telling *this* story. This has always been my stance throughout my journey with Petscop; I learnt about it from MatPat's first video on the series, and as someone who isn't a big fan of horror, especially horror that references real-world tragedies, I would've given it a miss. Except a line in the description caught my attention (this was back when it still featured the proprietors), I think it was something like: 'We aren't as concerned about these things now'. Something about it, considering what I'd been told about the series at that time, struck me as being so angry, utterly furious. I expected the series to be a scathing condemnation of us, something to the effect of, 'look at these children you've failed, how dare you play the bystander in this'. Of course, my thinking on Petscop has changed a lot since then, because as we know now, Candace Newmaker was just an allusion. A motif. Looking back on it, I think maybe I was the angry one; there's a part of me that is still incredibly bitter about how the community just 'moved on' from her story once it stopped being relevant, and nothing significant ever came from her story's involvement. Because she was a real person as much as she was a theme: we failed Candace, just as we fail Paul, and Care, and Belle, by playing the bystander. It's like you've said before, to consider Petscop solely as a puzzle to be solved is to play the abuser's game, so to speak. To ignore the lived realities that Petscop is trying to invoke, the lives of abused children, is to fundamentally misunderstand Petscop. Yes, the story is fascinating and yes, we all have our own ideas on it; even I have theories, though I feel everything I could possibly say about Petscop would be a case of 'different roads, same conclusion', but completing the jigsaw of the narrative isn't the same as learning from the experience. And that's what I feel Petscop is trying to be, a learning experience. It's why the only question I've ever had for the series is, 'why are we being shown this?' I'm guessing the answer will be, 'to help you close the loop'. Because there are so many Cares out there. Basically, what I'm trying to say in a very roundabout and rambly way is, thank you. Thank you for contextualising Petscop, for 'reading' it as a piece of art, for considering its themes and intents like so few others seem to do. Even if the story does come to a completely different conclusion, I want to thank you for helping me reach mine.

YES I wholeheartedly agree. The very purpose of good horror is to bring our attention to a problem. Horror with those themes are often the strongest. Petscop features these themes of abuse in a subtle, yet heavy way if you’re looking for it. I wholeheartedly believe this is the purpose of the story; to bring the viewer’s attention to the horrors that many children are subject to, treated like property instead of people, to make them upset or angry or guilty on that front, to desire to change, perhaps. So yeah, imo you nailed it lol

There are few things I find more calming than you raking over this thing we both love with a fine-toothed comb. One important thing I haven't seen said either by you or on the r/Petscop subreddit is how Marvin's inventory seemingly only having Toneth in Petscop 20 (we don't see if he's in possession of any phase of Care) reflects that Marvin may have caught Toneth by running over him with his car, a conclusion made feasible by the mythology intimated elsewhere by the series. Given how we know that events in the series repeat across generations and that what we are witnessing may not even be truly reflective of our present (case in point: Paul's repeating movements in Petscop 9 reflect the possibility that all of this has already happened), it's possible to theorize that Petscop might play host a protocol which ultimately depicts and executes a static and seemingly unmodifiable cycle of actions and that the characters fulfilling the roles in the '[x] hits [y] with car' scenario (or any other in the series) are interchangeable; thusly, the game's admonition that a player can 'break the cycle' would require them to be a wild card. As Paul is likely a latter-day adjunct for Care, he would not be able to change the course of events alone, but given the ostensibly anomalous presence of Tiara in his game (she's not family, after all, so she might bear no analogue within the game and could therefore be immune to its scripted events) as well as the phoned-in 'genius' of her 'real-world' counterpart, Belle, deviation from the norm is more possible than in any other generational playthrough we've been shown. In fact, the recording FUCK-FUCK-FUCK seems to coincide with either Tiara's arrival/creation or the apparent thwarting of Marvin's plan as seen in Petscop 23. If this is the case, Petscop 24's description could be a way of avowing that anything shown to us from this point on will reflect the going-ons of Petscop in the scope of our own contemporaneity. By making our way through the materials provided to us, we have, in effect, caught up. We are the latest generation of the growing organism, and all that remains is 'Now:'.
@glitchyglitchy39255 жыл бұрын
It felt like you kinda rushed over the latter few episodes, which imo are some of the most interesting and creepiest yet, so I'm glad to hear there will be another video. I believe the rotation of the Garalina logo is meant to represent the 15 generations of Petscop. Rotation seems to have something to do with the Room Impulse dial that appears in the bottom left corner. Tbh one of the creepiest moments in the whole series was when the Guardian went up to the Garalina office in the school. The music, the spinning pieces making the weird noises, the 8 rooms with computers featuring a spinning Garalina logo in front (and what else has spinning been associated with in this series?)... then they all go dark when you dismantle the pieces (aside from #7, which has already gone dark). It almost seems like killing something... Then of course when Marvin goes after Paul after learning the room he's in for unknown reasons... and Paul dumping the items representing Care into a grave... Something that bothers me is that it's been said Care was lost but arrived home on Nov 12th, but Petscop 23 makes it seem like Rainer was the one who found her. There are still unanswered questions so I don't think the series is over yet, though it feels close to the end. It might be the end when we finally see the "family" recordings. Ahhh, the was one more thing that seemed eerie to me. The eggs are a symbol of someone being reborn, but it also reminds me of the quote of the ghost room being a ship in a bottle. The only was to remove what's inside is to break it.

In the letter at 1:31:00 remember that Care's mother (Anna) is the SISTER of Lina (which Marvin married), according to the story that Rainer told Care back when he asked her to retrace her steps. So it is Anna Leskowitz, not necessarily just Anna Mark. Up until this point I thought Anna did not have anything to do with the whole rebirth thing and it was just Marvin. But now I've got the feeling every member of the family is actually a little bit involved with the rebirth process. Also, the letter in petscop 11 is addressed to Rainer so he could stay the night (or so I read some time ago). Now, if the letter in the locker was not written by Anna, it was most likely written by Marvin himself to convince Tiara of her new life. Keeping in mind he was obsessed to make Care someone she's not, it could be a possibility. Keep up the great work! I love to listen to your videos while drawing, they're just so good! Thank you so much for the effort on the petscop investigation and happy halloween!

I'm very late to this, but I just thought of something about the letter after re watching this series. The sickly sweet way it's written feels very facetious. Almost like a person trying to "make up" for previous actions. Often, an abusive parent will be "inconsistent" in their abuse; one day they may be awful to their child, the next incredibly kind and supportive. This is to make the child doubt themselves ("they can't be THAT bad, they're nice to me right now"). Given the "new life" comment, I would guess that this letter is addressed to a child after them being "reborn," an incredibly traumatic experience, which the parent is now trying to "make up for" by being uncomfortably supportive and loving.

With regards to the bit about the player(? the guardian? Care?) being left handed, it could connect with left and right getting mixed up (most notably, when the controls are shown). Adults used to always use "you WRITE with your RIGHT hand" to teach kids the difference between left and right. As a left handed person, this has caused me, and a number of other lefties I've met, to have a lot of trouble differentiating between left and right. Writing is taught to be associated with the right hand, but we use the left. It gets everything all mixed up. This doesn't really effect the story as a whole (maybe it's a subtle hint at the gas lighting that would most likely go into the brain washing Marvin subjects the kids to?), but I thought it was interesting.

I find the "strange situation" mention incredibly important to this idea for "re birthing" a child. the "strange situation" experiments were a series of experiments to measure the attachment style of children/infants to their caregivers. the categories are secure, avoidant and ambivalent. the parent is asked to leave the room for a moment and then re enter and the child's response to their re entry is categorised by either of the three depending on how they interact with their parent or caregiver. secure is when the child is comforted by this. avoidant is when the child does not acknowledge their caregiver and ambivelant is when they get upset at them or emotionally confused. the last two are unhealthy or insecure attachment styles. it's often used to examine the attachment style of a child as well as their bond to a care giver when a child is adopted. considering the want to "rebirth" someone who's "not in the family" to me suggests that maybe someone (probably belle) did has a insecure attachment style (avoidant or ambivalent) to their adopted mother and the mother wanted to "rebirth" her (possibly as a dead kid) in hopes to bond them. but as we know, this doesn't work in real life or in the context of petscop. Just some food for thought from a psych undergrad!

Haven't finished the video yet, but it's interesting that in one of the first save files, it says "you've captured all the pets except Toneth, who isn't here yet", but then in Marvin's game he's only caught Toneth and none of the others :/ yikessssss
@morganlak43375 жыл бұрын
Why is that significant? I just can't keep all the details of this show in my head, could you explain how those are connected?
@dommiesgrl5 жыл бұрын
@@morganlak4337 I'm not certain exactly of the broader implication, but since Marvin is largely considered to be a person who possibly kidnaps and murders children, according to the lore of this game, it's unnerving that in Marvin's game, he has "caught" only one "pet" (aka child), and it's a child who was missing from someone else's game.

Something i just noticed, and surprised that you did not notice, is the fact that woman who is writing in the "end credits" Seems to be the same person who asked if they chould "please stay over night if you can" Because there husband might come by. Like in the "end credits" the woman also rights "so so so" Three times, Just like in the letter to the person staying over, "Thank you so so so much". And in the letter, there is a symbol, that symbol looks like a flower. And then in the "end credits" there is also a flower symbol.
@landrigarcia57283 жыл бұрын
it's my theory that the woman is Anna, since we found her letter in Care's house, and we know that Anna is Care's mom. but why would Anna be at the end credits?

Two things that weren’t mentioned that I find interesting to think about: 1. In the counsellor’s room when Paul is selecting a game to play there is a green hat there that looks very similar to if not exactly like the one Amber wears. I’m not sure what this could mean but it’s something to think on. 2. In this game we’ve never seen the same colour be used for two different characters, only the “reborn” versions of them. Paul’s colour is shown to be red, and the only other thing that has had red text/a red text box in this game is the Tool we originally speak to. Yet again I’m unsure as to what this could mean but hopefully these observations can help others form some theories.

I think the answer to “where was the windmill” is the five words written on the chalkboard. the four caskets seem to be representations of the censored items, and it’s strange to introduce a new censored item after the mystery has been “solved” by marvin. thus, the tool’s hidden answer at 54:40 should be something previously censored. also, casket three talks about stencils on the wall. it seems very similar to the orange background of the secret menu in videos 18 on. perhaps those are the drawings marvin stencilled on the wall, or related to them. stencils also call to mind the floor patterns in the child library rooms.

Sonia I’d say it’s completely possible. Remember Paul said at one point that Petscop doesn’t care what you encounter or don’t. Every play through is different and also there’s tons of backtracking. For instance, Paul could run into something in The Newmaker Plane he’s never seen before and it could cause an unknown sound, or he could never hear one at all

Assuming that you are still intending to release the petscop comprehensive analysis video, I wanted to suggest a piece of research that I suspect may have been referenced in the episodes covered in this video and which I feel is obscure enough to miss. Not to insult your method, but I think it may be important and wanted to make sure that you were able to evaluate the possibility of any connection to the work yourself, if you feel it is worth your time. One of the recording files titled “strange situation” may be a reference to a series of psychological experiments performed on children regarding separation anxiety and their overall response to being taken away from an object of comfort, usually a mother, and exposed to something unfamiliar. Just something to consider. I love your work and wish you success in the future! Thank you for the hard work so evident in this series!

I found the scene where Paul stands on the precipice of that huge drop into the darkness really creepy. Even more so when he pushes the photo of the kid into that black hole. It almost looks like mementos of someone from a funeral or something. Is it perhaps significant that is the first real photo of someone we've seen in the series?
@moonman573 жыл бұрын
okay, so, yes, i know this is a two-year-old video about a four-year-old webseries, but is it possible Paul is Care's reincarnation, like how Care herself was supposedly a reincarnation of Lina? this theory is based on half-remembered information, but bear with me: - there are many instances where Paul seems to 'stand in' for Care, such as at the birthday party - they have the exact same birthday - Paul has stated that they look alike, and "Paul's room" was accessed by putting Mike's eyebrows on Care's face - they seem to be associated with the same color (yellow), like how Belle and Tiara are associated with the same color (purple) - in Petscop 23, Tiara is shown to be 'Tiara Leskowitz' - Lina's surname was also Leskowitz, Care's mother's maiden name was Leskowitz, and we've seen some indications that Paul's last name is also Leskowitz; it's possible that this whole reincarnation business is something inherent and exclusive to the Leskowitz family or 'bloodline' - despite all of this, Paul seems to have difficulty remembering Care at all early in the series, like his existence is mutually exclusive with hers or something the one big, BIG mark against this theory is this: - because Paul and Care were born on the exact same day, they were, until Care's death, both alive at the same time if Tiara Leskowitz existed as a real person alongside Belle or something, this could be explained, but unless i'm missing something i don't think we've seen evidence of that

I may have a slight theory as to why the proprietors wrote "thank you for watching!:). I do not think the series is over, far from it. However, what I do think has ended, is Paul's story arc and his place in the story for the time being, as he may end up coming back. As for the real world reason, they probably ran out of content to create, or are still in the process of coding, writing, and editing the next batch of episodes. I honestly think, that once the series ends as a whole, Paul will reveal himself, either in a video explaining everything on the petscop channel, or by making a IAMA post on /r/petscop subreddit (since the account /u/paleskowitz belongs to him, and that is the first place he made everyone aware to petscop), and I think we will get the reasoning behind what "Petscop" actually is, and what it represents/means.
