Nero: "I've been reading about Alexander. He's so great! Why don't people fight in a phalanx anymore? I know what we will do! Let's make a phalanx army and conquer Asia!" Magister Militum: " ... what a ... brilliant idea, oh Prince. Truly the mind uplifted by both divine creativity and historical knowledge is beyond us simple soldiers." Later, to his subordinates:" A large sum has been secured to raise a new legion. Nero will call it his 'phallus' i mean 'phalanx' XD. Lets do this cheaply and quickly, before he changes his mind "

I get why you feel this one is different. I chose to do it this way because there isn't nearly as much ifo about this legion as the ones before it, and it was definitely not as distinguished as the Caesarian Legions. That is why I chose to gice it a different style. You have my word that the next one about the 14th will be of a similar style to the ones before, if not better. Cheers!

After reading a lot about Nero, I've come to accept that a lot of what Nero did, was for "unknown reasons" that can not be deduced logically. Near the end, the man didn't care if something was feasible, or made any sense. Drinking wine, boiled in a pot made of Lead for the extra intoxicating effect, can not be good for one's mental health.

Would it of been the Legio that found how to defeat the Phalanx at battles like Cynocophalea? The phalanx was like a tank, unconquerable from the front, and could only be defeated by combined arms until legionaries realised the formation cohehesion last ruined by rugged uneven terrain, and thus like the title Africanus in Scipio Africanus they received the title of the phalanx legion for conquering said thing?

Actually I am from the area of the first legion . I think the romans picked it there not only for the good location but also because there lived the tribes of the thracians who were a people of the war and did make up great soldiers in the roman empire. There is clues indeed that when they've retired they would settle down in that region today between north bulgaria/south romania.

Excellent video! I don't know much about Roman Imperial history, so this is very interesting stuff. Is is possible that the Legio I Phalanx was outfitted in a Macedonian style for the war against Parthia, then re-equipped in a more traditional Roman style in later years? Nero seems the type to have equipped his legion as a phalanx but I don't see such a table of arms and organization existing long after him.

Can you examine the true history of the Fasces .. Aka: Fasces (English: /ˈfæsiːz/ FASS-eez, Latin: [ˈfaskeːs]; a plurale tantum, from the Latin word fascis, meaning "bundle";[1] Italian: fascio littorio) is a bound bundle of wooden rods, sometimes including an axe with its blade emerging. The fasces is an Italian symbol that had its origin in the Etruscan civilization and was passed on to ancient Rome, where it symbolized a magistrate's power and jurisdiction. The axe originally associated with the symbol, the Labrys (Greek: λάβρυς, lábrys) the double-bitted axe, originally from Crete, is one of the oldest symbols of Greek civilization. To the Romans, it was known as a bipennis.[2] The image has survived in the modern world as a representation of magisterial or collective power, law and governance. The fasces frequently occurs as a charge in heraldry: it is present on the reverse of the U.S. Mercury dime coin and behind the podium in the United States House of Representatives; and it was the origin of the name of the National Fascist Party in Italy (from which the term fascism is derived). During the first half of the twentieth century both the swastika and the fasces (each symbol having its own unique ancient religious and mythological associations) became heavily identified with the authoritarian/fascist political movements of Benito Mussolini. During this period the swastika became deeply stigmatized, but the fasces did not undergo a similar process.”” .. also the word swastika has been wrongly associated with the nazi symbol however that symbol being a sawastika and goes anti-clock wise as used by khan and Rothschild-Vatican-British queen- complex during the WWII... The swastika symbol has been almost completely removed from the internet and other archives. Censured. As a hint take a look at how an alectromagnetic field rotates when seen from the poles. Look at the milky way fx how is the formation and movement at large when compared to a clockwise as right side movement around rotation?
