This scene is amazing. The translation in French is that she is telling the Phantom that she loves him and that he is her heart. He responds in kind. This is why the Count doesn't look very happy because they are both declaring their love to one another. Though I know both of the voices are dubbed in, both actors had to learn these songs in French, as well as act the scene realistically, a major accomplishment. I HATE how the movie ends, but this scene makes the movie worth it. I LOVE THIS SCENE. The music is gorgeous. The sentiment looks so real.

I love the Erik and Christine moments in this film. like the little looks he gives her or the tendor touches or moments when he wants to hold her touch but is surprised. when she's getting ready and he says 'don't worry I've never seen such perfection' and then the look of tender love mixed with passion is just so well done. Also talking about the bistro and helping her with her dress jusy great moments. All the Christine and Erik moments even the ones when he's angry are great. Some of his one liners are great. I love this film of Phantom

@@theatrekidwithinternetacce704 He was dying of sadness. Christine passed away after seeing his deformed face and then woke up only to try and escape. His heart was destroyed. I don't think science can explain or even prove that, but heartbreak can really make a person sick. I've been through something similar. A rejection from someone I truly cared about. I couldn't eat, cause there was a knot in my stomach. I couldn't concentrate in anything else. Just wanted to sit in a corner and cry myself to death. Purple dots appeared in my thigh and I felt physically sick. So yeah, he was very much dying.

This is my favorite part of the whole movie. PhantomReviewer called it silly; I can't see how he can think that. It's so passionate. I can't understand the words or the subtitles, but the emotion shines through so perfectly. Whoever does the singing for Teri Polo and Charles Dance, bravo! The Phantom's voice especially is gorgeous! The only thing is, I kind of feel bad for the guy playing Faust. He got his role stolen! You can see him in the background mouthing the words, poor guy, lol.

Surely one of the best adaptations. It is much not Leroux accurate, but it keeped the main message about the story and it brought us one of the best representations for Erik, that many versions missed. For more adaptations like this one! Enough of turning a tragic, misunderstood antihero wishing to be loved, forgave and understood like Erik into a heartless, stupid villain with no respect to Leroux. Great acting of both Polo and Charles Dance, they are of my fave Christine and Erik ❤️❤️ Btw, she should have stay with Erik, and not that useless, selfish, narcisist count! Raoul/Philippe doesn't deserve a girl as sweet as her :)

My grandmother recorded this movie when it aired on television over 30 years ago. My siblings and I would watch it. We were very, very young. I was probably 9 or 10? My baby brother was maybe 5 when I first sat and watched it with him. I LOVED the movie then and I still love it today. This was always my favorite scene! Every time I watch it my entire body becomes covered in goosebumps. This year, I decided to read Faust and figure out what the opera story is about…Goethe is not light reading but I’m almost finished with the book. I’ve been learning a lot and expanding my mind…and it is all because this scene inspired me and sparked my curiosity when I was a child. Thank you to the person who made it available on KZbin!

I went into shock watching this version. Erik was (almost) human and simply amazing, Christine was more confused than ever, raoul/phillipe was a bigger douche than I've ever seen him, and the duet was heartbreakingly wonderful. The portrayal of their relationship in this version was my favorite. The 2004 version was cool, but it did not hit me in the tear ducts like this one did.

@JKS177 I agree! I love the duet in this! I know its dubbed, but all the same Charles Dance gives so much expression of his love. And I like how the audience applauds him, as though his mask in those few wonderful moments no longer matters. He seems so happy when the song ends. ''Oui, ce moi je t'aime!'' (I hope thats right) He really believes it. We love you, Erik! Beautiful...Its so sad it has to end.
