Honestly, I usually roll my eyes at the thought of listening to yet another version of a POTO medley on theater organ. I must have over a dozen to choose from in my CD collection! However, that being said, I did find Brett's arrangement to be another breath of fresh air so indicative of his playing style. I particularly enjoyed his left hand accompaniment chording accented with the second touch harp for rhythmic emphasis. In my book, it ranks right up there with the medley's recorded by Dave Wickerham, Walt Strony and Charlie Balogh! Bravo Brett for making a believer again out of this Phantom curmudgeon! 😏

This is a beautiful Wurlitzer organ. I seem to remember the great Jesse Crawford him self used to play this one in the early days when it was in New York Paramount! The level of maintenance and endless tuning and tonal tweaking made this one of the best in the world?

@@danielle_in_distress I have several cds from the Organ stop by some of your best Cinema/Theatre organists and do agree it's a very fine organ that lacks nothing? But what I don't like to hear are the midi type add ons like the automatic rhythms etc although I guess Robert hope Jones would have appreciated the technology fitted to it? I live in the UK so we don't have 84 rank Wurlitzers here or even 36 rank either come to that, but coincidentally we have the original Organ stop Wurlitzer console from Mesa but I believe it now it contains 32 ranks and not the 46 ranks as was in the pizzeria there? Nice that these instruments still exist at any size as they were scrapped big time here and in sure there too!

Theater organs were much better at simulating orchestral instruments than the human voice. Do arrangers ever forgo trying to simulate human voice with Vox Humana pipes and go for an all “orchestral” arrangement
@baconbyte4065
@baconbyte4065 4 жыл бұрын
While the vox humana is meant to emulate the human voice and while I agree it doesn't even come close its still a very colorful rank unlike anything the orchestra has to offer and gives the organ its own unique character.

I am seldom critical of another organist,.. however.. I found most of it as emotional and interpretive as a piano roll. He's a good organist who needs to Feel the music.

It feels like he’s doing something we refer to as reading the sheet, in other words: he’s playing as wrote no adjustment no play to temp fluctuations which the OST did have the organist for the movie (I use this as that’s where it is most pronounced) did take some liberties as a “soloist” and melody leader. This is most likely why it feels he’s playing far to fast on several spots

I stopped listening after the first few measures. Why do you have to play it so fast? Totally ruins the suspense and mystery! You aren't giving the chords any time to mix and harmonize, and they get muddled with your next phrases. This is one of those things that requires time and spacing in order to match it's true potential as a piece. Where you nervous? Is that why it is rushed? I'm truly baffled by this approach to the overture.

As a solo performer, he is allowed to play it however he wants. If you don't like it, listen to other performers instead of shaming those who are actually able to be musical octopi and play with everything but their butt. And if you had listened further, you would know that the tunes are not at all like Phantom of The Opera, and that's what makes it special. He did his own take, and I must say that I enjoyed a lot of it. It allowed him to demonstrate the abilities of the Wurlitzer organ that I don't hear everyday. If you listened to the part where he spoke before playing, you would know that he and his fellow organists are constantly asked to play Phantom of The Opera songs. Can you blame him for wanting to change things? When people try to put positivity into this world, don't be negative about it. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

@@frenlyfren No, you stopped listening after the first few measures. And yes, your channel makes it entirely clear that you are over 15 years old and have experience with music (sarcasm) Just because you are (supposedly) a musician does not mean you have the right to be so negative about another person's work.
